What’s that you stuffed in my nappies?

Kiev, 22 June 2007 (Interfax):

Police detained a British citizen who tried to smuggle three icons out of Kharkov airport in Ukraine. Immigration officers detained the man, who is 45 years old. According to Dmitri Gorkoltsev, press secretary of the Kharkov frontier guards, informants told the authorities of a possible attempt to smuggle valuables out of the country. Customs agents examined the man’s belongings with special care. It turned out that he hid the icons he was trying to smuggle out of the country in Pampers (disposable nappies: editor’s note). Experts are now working to establish where the icons came from and their historical value, the official website of the Ukrainian Autonomous Orthodox Church (MP) reported.
