At present, there is nothing to report on the situation. Of course, the rumour mill is working overtime and the most fanciful stories are circulating in the oddest corners of the cyberworld. It would be well for us to realise that there is truly only one group in this drama who have a real voice in the matter. That is, I refer to the native elders and clergy.
No one else counts. As of this moment, the elders and clergy are keeping their own counsel, and they are saying NOTHING to the outside world. This is frustrating to many, and the most unlikely personalities are being mentioned as bearers of a solution. Some of these tales can be put to rest, I believe. Metropolitan Yuvenaly is rather busy as Vladyki Aleksei’s vicar in Moscow, so, he has no time. Fr Luke Murianka at Jordanville is busy with the situation surrounding the passing of Vladyki Laurus, so, he is not in Alaska either. However, such stories are a sign that people are no longer looking to the OCA Holy Synod for a solution.
In short, there is a palpable longing in the Church for a hint of what is to come. Everyone is aware that the status quo of the past 40 years is dead, but, the shape of the future is opaque to all of us (especially me). This SCARES us. None of the old verities fit, and not one of us knows what to do. There is only one group that is proceeding with an end in view, and that is the native elders. The only thing that the rest of us can do is pray that they are given the wisdom to make a prudent decision.
To say anything else would be empty wind, and I shall not inflict such on you. Waiting in silence can be nerve wracking, no?
O Most Holy Mother God, guide us and protect us with thy veil. We need it.
