Russia and the Ukraine, Together Forever!
Moscow, 26 April 2008 (Interfax):
Patriarch Aleksei II of Moscow and all Russia believes that no external force can destroy the spiritual unity tying together the Ukrainian and Russian peoples. The celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia is “a good occasion to recall that our peoples had a common baptismal font and they have a shared historical fate”, His Holiness said in an interview published in the Saturday issue of Rossiiskaya Gazeta. “We should value this spiritual unity highly. It is a valuable legacy of our peoples, and it lives in our people’s hearts. As experience shows us, even the most powerful external force is powerless in such cases. Not without reason, people say that the heart knows no laws”, he emphasised. “There was a time when some made attempts to declare that the faith of our fathers was a relic of the past. However, nothing of the sort worked. It is just impossible to efface faith from people’s souls. The same thing goes for the roots of our united Holy Russia. It is invincible”, the patriarch said.
