God was merciful to us. I have met Vladika in 1997. I am not a convert (although one of sorts). I am a Romanian Orthodox who became dissafected with his own Church in Australia when her priest turned over to Catholicism trying to drag his flock after him. We tentatively tried all Orthodox Churches in Sydney. Eventually we came to Croydon and Father Michael Boikov directed us to talk to Vladika Hilarion. After that we remained "glued" to the Church in Croydon to this day, even in spite of the little "turmoils" that shook the community recently. As the Church in Croydon is the Chapel of the Archbishop and his residence, we practically had the opportunity to meet him on a very frequent basis and many times informally. How would one not be affected to the core when Vladika himself greeted us personally on an Easter service with the very Romanian "Hristos a inviat"? And that he instructed the parish priest to introduce the "Hristos a inviat" on the Easter service?
Well, Vladika always stressed that the Church should never relinquish her missionary role. It may be Russian in form, but universal in essence. I am sure that Vladika will win the Aborigines to Orthodoxy and the Indonesians as well!
May God preserve him!

A few of the ROCOR priests that I know have left and joined other jurisdictions after the Union with the Moscow Patriarch principally because of the MP's past involvement in "ecumenism" and the World Council of Churches. How sad is this?

Oh! Orthodox Priests! Why have you gone against your bishops! You have lapsed into self determination of what is truth. The MP has joined us in this Union, and our ROCOR Bishops will help steer the MP ship out of the harbor of ecumenism.

This is happening today, thanks to Metropolitan Hilarion, and his voicing this very problem at the recent MP council of bishops meeting in July.

And we cannot forget our beloved Vladika Lavra who forged ahead with the union gaining the obvious stamp of Our Lord's approval since Vladika's repose occured on The Sunday of Orthodoxy!

Well done good and faithful servant!!!!!!

Многая Лета!

"

Nikolai Varsegov
What are the questions that most Russian journalists ask of you?

Metropolitan Hilarion
Oh, I try to avoid the press, especially the TV cameramen! I think that my Russian is poor, it embarrasses me.

"

Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth!!!!!

My husband and I are overjoyed at the election of Vladyka Hilarion! We are recent converts to Holy Orthodoxy, but feel as if we know him from the personal contact he has with our father confessor. What excites us most is his sensibility to the need for English and other current languages being used instead of Church Slavonic. This is mission at its best - contextuality, not for the sake of division, but for the sake of entering in completely to prayer within the Kingdom by those who "come and see" and then stay because of True Truth. May our Vladyka Hilarion be blessed with many, many years!
