Dima Bilan (1981- ), Russian pop music star, winner of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest
He sang his heartfelt song Believe Me, giving Russia its first-ever Eurovision Song Contest win in the Serbian capital of Belgrade late last night. Ani Lorak of the Ukraine came second, followed by Kolomira from Greece. The winner was determined by SMS and telephone calls from viewers from the 43 countries that sent representatives to the competition. President Dmitri Medvedev congratulated Bilan and his team upon the win. He expressed hope that the Eurovision pop music contest will be held in Russia at the highest level soon.

Editor’s Note:
A hat trick for Russia! The FC Zenit footballers won the European championship and Piter (Russkie slang for St Petersburg) went nuts, and rightly so. Then, the Russian national team won the IIHC international ice hockey championship against the Canucks. Now, Dima Bilan whips the field at the Eurovision contest.
WAHOO! You bet, I’m beating the big Russian drum! “La Russophobe” can stick this in their hillbilly moron crack-pipe and smoke it! Russia is GODZILLA in sport, the arts, and pop culture, tromping all of the opposition into the ground. Wanna bet that FC Zenit shall wax Man United in their upcoming match in August? You know who I’ve got my money on….
The top three slots at the Eurovision contest were taken by singers from countries with an Orthodox culture. Last year, the winner, Marija Serepovic, was from Serbia, another Orthodox country. ORTHODOX POWER! I think that Dima Bilan is from one of the Muslim nationalities, so this shows that Muslims from Russia are not Al Qaeda fanatics. In fact, they are great folks who have always been an honoured part of our Russian family. This makes it a double celebration. Glory to our Muslim compatriots! My congratulations go out to you. (To oppose Albanian separatists in Kosovo and loving our Muslim brothers at the same time is not contradictory!).
Dima… WELL DONE!
We all salute you.

I agree with the writer, “Very Well done!”

Every reference I checked made it clear that he is from one of the Muslim nationalities in the Caucasus. However, many such have converted to Christianity as part of the present revival in Russia. That is why I said that I “think” he was Muslim. Who knows? One can only go on PUBLIC information!
