Sluggish Recognition of Kosovo Worries USA

Rosemary DiCarlo, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs

A deputy assistant secretary of the US Department of State, Rosemary DiCarlo, has visited Pristina to find out that hitherto tranquil and trusting relations between her country and Kosovo have started to show signs of friction. Ms DiCarlo upbraided the Kosovar leaders for doing too little to acheive the earliest international recognition of their self-proclaimed republic. Washington must have pinned its hope on the earliest recognition of Kosovo, hence, its criticism of Pristina’s performance.

An expert with the Russian Institute of Slavonic Studies, Aleksandr Karasyov, described the recognition process as “…sluggish. It is only natural for the United States to want it to pick up speed. The proclamation of Kosovar sovereignty contradicts Security Council Resolution 1244, but, a speedier recognition process would result in its [de facto] international recognition”.

The American position is quite understandable because the moves for the proclamation of Kosovar sovereignty were prompted and supported from abroad, primarily, from the United States of America and leading European “democracies”. The US and NATO attack on Yugoslavia in 1999 was the first of those moves. It was followed by the occupation of Kosovo and its de facto separation from Serbia. What Albanian separatists did for Kosovar sovereignty boils down to ethnic cleansing campaigns which forced ethnic Serbs and other ethnic minorities out of their homes. The proclamation of Kosovar sovereignty is part of a big political game in which Washington aims to seize control of the Balkan transit points on the route between Europe and the oil-rich Black Sea-Caspian and Middle East regions. Little is usually said about this side of the matter.

Editor’s Note:

The US is perturbed that after a unrepresentative minority of states quickly recognised the Kosovo UDI proclaimed by the Albanian terrorists, Pristina has been unable to gain support anywhere. It should be mentioned that there are EU member-states that have not recognised the rebels, neither has Canada. It seems as though the world is backing the Russian stance, not the American. Hmm… methinks the true reason for American ire is that they have found out that most of the world refuses to kowtow to them. The American neocon leadership are spoilt children who throw tantrums when they are crossed. Prme Minister Putin has done so and checkmated them.

Go git ‘em, Vladimir!

  1. Your final comment says it all! There are days when I wish Putin were running for president in the US…
