Georgia is mobilising commando units near its border with South Ossetia, Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, the deputy chief of the General Staff, said on Tuesday. Russia officially recognised South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states on 26 August, saying the move was needed to protect the regions after Georgia’s 8 August attack on South Ossetia. “According to our information, Georgian security forces are trying to restore their [military] presence in Georgian-populated villages in South Ossetia. With this aim, Georgia is mobilising its special forces from the interior and defence ministries near the administrative border with South Ossetia”, he said.

He also said that Russia had deployed 19 peacekeeping observation posts in South Ossetia to provide security and stability in the republic, adding that South Ossetian military detachments were also mobilising near the border to counter any possible Georgian attacks. Georgia attacked South Ossetia on 8 August in an attempt to regain control over the republic, which split from Tbilisi in the early 1990s. Most people living in South Ossetia are Russian citizens and Moscow subsequently launched an operation to “compel Georgia to stand down”. The operation was concluded on 12 August. President Dmitri Medvedev said on Sunday that Russian support for South Ossetia and Abkhazia envisaged military as well as economic assistance.

Editor’s Note:

Cheney is stirring the pot yet again. This brouhaha started after Cheney sent one of his capos to Georgia. This time, the capo di tutti capi himself has shown up in Tbilisi, offering all sorts of aid to the madman Saakashvili. Obviously, this is one of his tricks. Richard Cheney is EVIL. He never served a day in the forces himself, yet, he is always agitating for the most violent solution to any problem. I think that he would have been more circumspect if he had just gone through basic. The DI would have drilled some prudence and humility into him at least. Perhaps, he would have gained enough proficiency in marksmanship so that he would not have shot his hunting partner!

For Georgia to make any aggressive moves at this point is insane. However, a prominent Georgian opposition leader, now in exile in Paris (fleeing Saakashvili’s secret police), said, “[Saakashvili] doesn’t go to the bathroom without asking Washington’s permission”. This means that he is completely the cat’s-paw of Cheney and Rice, completely ready to do their bidding. Cheney wishes to pull off an “October surprise” to ensure the election of McCain. However, such a move may very well backfire, because many Americans no longer put much credence in the Ministry of Truth… oops, I meant CNN, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.

Speaking as a deep-dyed conservative (I think that being a White Guard Russian monarchist puts me in that category), I think that Richard Cheney is a disgrace and a mockery to the office he holds. He is worse than a Red. He wears White robes, yet, he carries out Red policies. That is perfidiousness of the highest order. His hands are bloodstained from the killing of innocents. He is nothing but a neocon Osama bin Laden or Shamil Basayev. America has been badly served by this amoral monster, and he is yet another illustration of Hannah Arendt’s point concening “the banality of evil”. May God see and judge!
