Video: Христос воскесе! Воистинну воскресе! At a Dynamo-Lokomotiv Match

This happened at a Dynamo-Lokomotiv match in Moscow. The Dynamo fans started by chanting, Христос воскресе! Not to be outdone, the Loko-fans responded with a hearty Воистинну воскесе! Listen carefully, you’ll hear it! Of course, it doesn’t hurt to see mighty Lokomotiv on the field (Hey… I’m a fan… I wear the green and red…)…

Patriarchs Kirill and Theodoros Mourn the Victims killed in the Crash of the Plane Carrying the Polish President near Smolensk

Archbishop Brigadier General Dr Miron Chodakowski (1957-2010), Orthodox Ordinary (Field Bishop) of the Polish Army, killed in a plane crash along with the Polish President and all of an official delegation visiting Katyń.

Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias expressed his condolences in connection with the death of the Polish president, his wife, and all the other passengers and crew in a plane crash near Smolensk. “We will pray for all those who lost their lives. We also believe that not only that we should preserve the memories of the innocents murdered in the Katyń forest, but we should remember those who, to pay them proper respect, died on their pilgrimage there”, His Holiness said on Saturday at a meeting with Patriarch Theodoros Horeftakis of Alexandria and all Africa in Alexandria. “Our hearts are full of sincere sorrow. These people were flying to Katyń to pay tribute to the memory of their compatriots who were innocent victims killed in this place”, Patriarch Kirill said. Patriarchs Kirill and Theodoros, on behalf of all the faithful of the MP and the Church of Alexandria signed a joint message of condolences addressed to Acting Polish President Bronisław Komorowski. “Katyń is a site filled with historical pain for both the Russian and Polish peoples. From this day, our commemoration of the thousands killed in the Katyń Forest is inextricably linked with the memory of those killed in the crash of this airliner”, according to the text of the condolences read aloud by Patriarch Kirill. In addition, both patriarchs expressed condolences to the Metropolitan Sawa Hrycuniak of Warsaw and all Poland in connection with the death of Archbishop Miron Chodakowski, the Ordinary (Field Bishop) of the Polish Army, in the plane crash. On Saturday afternoon, Patriarch Kirill headed a delegation of the MP that arrived from Moscow at the airport in Alexandria. Patriarch Theodoros met him at the airport.

Editor’s Note:

It is VERY unusual for Interfax-Religion to have a Sunday dispatch. This is a HUGE story in Russia, and President Medvedev has announced a day of mourning in connection with this event. Shall this tragedy bind Poles and Russians together? God willing, yes… in which case, it will not be a good day for Galician Uniate nationalists… God does work in mysterious ways…

Ya Luvs Me… Ya Luvs Me Not… Here’s Some Vox Pop on It All

Sometimes, it gets a little bit lonely… then, you remember that you have friends…

Recently, one of the messages in the comboxes called me a “hater”. Let’s start with my tête-à-tête with my pleasant interlocutor. Their words are in italics; my reply is in boldface.

Vara, you are a mean-spirited person, through and through. I am continually amazed at the passionate enjoyment you take in your hatred for others. Yes, it is hatred. It’s obvious and is not at all disguised by your highly intelligent and interesting commentary. May God have mercy on you…and on me for judging you, though I think I judge you correctly.

Please, note the above. Firstly, it’s immature… “I am constantly amazed at the passionate enjoyment you take in your hatred for others”. This person does not know me, has never met me, and is very upset that I am standing up against the modernists. He is upset that I am not “playing nice”. There is a priest who wrote me and said, “Keep on! I am a priest and I am forced to be diplomatic”. I’ll tell you what, Jason… I hate Satan and his works. I fight such with all my powers. I hate dishonesty. I hate duplicity. I hate those who use power to hurt others. I hate those who do filthy actions and use their position to cover it. That’s why I hate SVS and all its works.

Dear Jason, prove this to me, and I’ll apologise. Prove to me with actionable evidence that Eric Iliff was not sexually assaulted by a staff member at SVS and I’ll apologise. In public, no less. That’s easy enough. As an MP priest in Europe said to me, “That (Eric’s assault) was disgusting! The place should be closed immediately”. Dear Jason, prove to me with actionable evidence that Fr Mikhail Shuvar was never assaulted by Uniate thugs or that His Holiness Kirill did not note his passing, and I’ll retract everything that I’ve written against the Unia and Uniates. Dear Jason, prove to me with actionable evidence that Eric Tosi did not gloss over the loss of four years of records and that JP acquiesced in it with his silence, and I’ll retract everything I’ve written about JP.

In short, you can’t. Jason… you are a living embodiment of “cheap grace”… your judgement is immature, ill-considered, and without foundation. You are attempting to prove yourself “holier than thou”. Your nappies are full and reek, sir. Do have them changed before you tangle with adults. You’re in checkmate. You’re defending the indefensible. In addition, you expect everyone to meet your sterile American suburban shibboleths. Guess what… if you think that such makes me “hateful”… I can’t change your opinion. However, you may spout off to whomever you will and wherever you will, but I will not give this particular topic from you any further air. I think that you understand me. Go back to JP and Hatfield and cry, for all I bloody care. I have only so much God-given time and I don’t spare time for folderol or squeamishness. If you don’t like me or way that I express myself… go elsewhere. I shan’t change… and most of my readership would agree with me.

Good day.

Cheers,
Vara

To say the least, the support I received humbles me… such friends… you keep me going, dear ones. I did not put them in the comboxes for a simple reason… it was so that an OCA fanatic wonk couldn’t trace it. Here’s a sampling (names removed to protect the innocent… and to stymie the guilty):

  • Mean-spirited? Nonsense. Just a typically over the top Russian who speaks her mind when confronted with uptight Western hypocrisy!
  • Phooey… this is how they always react when you won’t “play nice” and go along with the newest and latest guru they bring forward. I was told recently that I am “part of the problem, instead of part of the solution” because I won’t smile and nod with the new OCA power players and their cronies…
  • Gandhi said, “First, they ignore you; then, they laugh at you; then, they fight you; then, you win”. Guess this falls under “fight you?”
  • Christ is risen! My dearest Vara, I was laughing with the very first sentence from “Jason!” What really got me was the backhanded comment, “your highly intelligent and interesting commentary!” What a mixed-up bag of nuts that guy is. The OCA is really quite diseased, isn’t it? What more can one say? Their worshipful attitude toward Paffhausen is absurd, as well as thoroughly disgusting. You have hit the nail right on the head, Vara, which is why they are so upset with you. I’ll keep you in my prayers! Big hugs…
  • I love that quote… [X] quoted it to me awhile back…
  • Vara, I disagree with you on a number of things, some of them significant, but “mean-spirited” would never be a word that I would use to describe you. “Disguised”… in any way… is also not a term which strikes me as remotely appropriate in your case. “Strong-willed?” Absolutely. “Resolute” and “not-easily-swayed”… goes without saying, for anyone who has been paying attention at all. But your devotion to the Church and to Christ I would not question for a moment, and your fairness and compassion for those who are most vulnerable, over those who are most powerful, will put me squarely in your corner at the toughest of times.

There one has it. I do know what tactics the SVS/Syosset sorts use. They start by calling names; then, they smarmily inform you that you are either “hateful” or “disturbed”. There is a group of about 20 such on the Orthodox Forum who are the most public of these offenders. Quite often, they trot out this AOCANA priest named Washburn to give his “expert” opinion (he’s one of the ex-vagantes under Gillquist)… he’s a “therapist” and “conflict resolution coach” (I kid you not… he’s nothing but a California New Age Positivist with a VERY thin Orthodox veneer). You’ve all heard their cretin-like Newspeak drivel… no need to bore you.

In short, kiddies, I CARE. I CARE DEEPLY. People who care about things passionately use strong language and images. To put it another way, LOVE drives me. I love the truth. I love Christ and His Church. I love unity. I love straightforwardness and clarity. That’s why I work hard on my two websites… it’s going to be the absolute best that I can do. Otherwise, I should go home and stop it all. I must be respectful of your time…

Are there things I hate? There are… I hate dishonesty, thievery, duplicity, BS, the use of the Church for private enrichment or to hurt the faithful, disunity, and those who spit on Christ’s Church through indifferentism or Renovationism. Are there any clerics who are dangerous in the extreme? Yes… Jonas Paffhausen. Reflect on what just happened. He went to Texas to meet with Anglican Proddie sectarians and he refused to tell you the truth of the matter. That’s EVIL. Add in the events of the last 18 months and I think that you can reach only one conclusion… Paffhausen delenda est (metaphorically, of course). He has displayed his indifference to the legitimate boundaries of Christ’s Body the Church many times… that alone is reason to complain to His Holiness Kirill to have this poseur removed. Never forget… the OCA is not autocephalous in fact… it’s only a minor and backward dependency of Moscow. How long must this charade last? God willing, not long…

Editor’s Postscript:

Hey, it’s time to share Jason’s latest tirade with you. Reflect on the fact that this nappy-wearing toddler is serious (I kid you not):

Vara, by the way, my comment wasn’t specifically aimed at the one article above – I don’t want or need to prove anything you told me to prove as, actually, I am not as concerned about these issues as you must assume. I just thought it was about time to call you out and it applies to most of your comments. You are not fooling me, and I’m sure I am not the only one. In an illustrated dictionary your picture would be next to the entry for ‘hubris’.

For one who supposedly doesn’t have time, you sure devoted a lot of it to writing your long-winded defense of yourself. I’ll wait to see how long your next response is. ‘I have only so much God-given time’…you show in your pompous, long-winded, self-important comments that every day you have nothing but time on your hands. Maybe some of that time would be better spent in front of your icons doing prostrations or in church, confessing (but you need to think you HAVE something to confess before you’d want to, right?)

Jason… I do not parade my personal prayer life… that’s not done by grounded people… only a hubristic self-loving konvert would make the stupid comment you just made. I will keep it short… I have other and more pressing things on my plate today. You smile and approve when your idol Paffhausen kisses the naked bums of the Anglican sectarians. He belongs in an illustrated dictionary by “poseur” and “heretic” (“Orthodox” Feast of “St Francis”, indeed!). That proves the depth of your Orthodoxy… checkmate, again… your serve?

Oh, yes, the photo of Paffhausen sucking up to the Anglicans is still not up at oca.org as of 15.00 12 April… can you give me a reason, Jason? Hmm… or does JP get a “get out of jail free” card for being a shameless and rabid Renovationist? Moses… Kev… the rest of ya out there… let’s all take a swig from the little brown jug and cheer… if this is the best that the OCA fanatics can do… they’re not long for this world. Be good, all.

SVS Invites Osborne Fanatic to Speak at the Campus

I really shouldn’t have invited that guy Moody after the flap over Rowan Williams… ooh, ooh, ooh, my tummy hurts… why doesn’t anybody love me?

______________________________

He’s a disciple of the defrocked Basil Osborne (now Dr Osborne), and he serves under Constantinople (of course) in Portugal (his wife is Portuguese). He’s a composer of classical-style music. Pretty modernist…

An MP priest-friend with Parisian connections

******

12. 04. 10 Correction to the above:

My informant e-mailed me with the following correction:

Woops! He joined Constantinople in the 1990s and is under the Galician-Ukrainian bishop in Portugal who’s under Constantinople.

However, my thesis stands on all fours… Mr Moody’s a ravening modernist without a stitch of Tradition behind him. SVS is sucking up to the EP lately… for instance, they’re denying that Moscow had a united Church here in the early 20th century (a volte face for them, they used to support the Moscow view). In short, all of my conclusions hold water, but I wished to correct an error in fact. Ciao, folks.

BMD

******

Do read this. As with most things from SVS, there’s much missing, and there’s much that simply doesn’t add up. Firstly, Mr Moody isn’t a famous or well-known composer… he’s a second-rate hack. Secondly, he’s one of the rebels that left with Basil Osborne in ’06… the group that attempted to hold a knife to the throats of all Russian Orthodox Christians in Great Britain. As all grounded people know, the SVS crowd allied itself with the Osborne schismatics from the top. Because they did the right thing by holding public meetings and being completely aboveboard, the MP defused the situation. Only some 300 soreheads left with Mr Osborne and ended amongst the Parisian Renovationists under the EP. The vast majority of the faithful stayed loyal to the legitimate Church authority and Archbishop Yelisei Ganaba has not only put things right, he has given his all to the task of Russian Orthodox unity in the British Isles.

I wonder if Archbishop Yustinian Ovchinnikov knows of this little soirée? Has Behr told him of it? No doubt, Vladyki Yustinian would be VERY interested, and he’d inform His Holiness immediately that SVS is hobnobbing with the enemies of the MP. That’s not a wise move. It’s true enough that they’ve been taking “stupid pills” lately. The Rowan Williams fiasco was unwise in the extreme. The so-called award in Moscow was a put-up job by their friend Alfeyev… Behr was locked out of the private audience that His Nibs gave the other honourees (as well he should have, the other three were legitimate heavyweights, President Medvedev, Patriarch Karekin, and Emir Kusturica… Behr is nothing but the rector of a third-rate seminary in an insignificant backwater of the Orthodox world). The OCA is nothing but a dependency of the MP… its autocephaly is a sham. At present, the MP finds it useful… nothing more. As a priest-friend of mine remarked to me, “It’s a pawn in the great game between the MP and the EP… and pawns are expendable”. Indeed… SVS had best watch its step. If it hobnobs too closely with the Paris bunch… well, Moscow may very well jerk its leash tight. Don’t forget… the Parisian poseurs are causing the Russian government much grief over the church in Nice. SVS is going to be seen hobnobbing with them? If there ever was a bad idea, this is it.

Finally, here’s a meditation. Mr Moody’s a cleric of the Paris group… the Paris group withheld communion from Mme Plas (an exclusion that Moscow condemned… Alfeyev sent her family condolences that obviously came from the Centre)… SVS backs the Paris cabal to the max. That means that they approve the thuggish tactics of this group… could it be because they use the same methods themselves? Do think on that…

A Note of Some Interest from Your Intrepid Editor:

As of 19.00 11 April 2010, there’s still no news item or photo on oca.org of JP’s ecumenical love feast in Texas with the Anglican sectarians. He has nothing but contempt for you. This guy makes Herman Swaiko look like Mr Clean. To think that the konvertsy slobber over his every word…

Head Orthodox Chaplain of the Polish Army Killed in Crash of Presidential Aircraft in Smolensk

Archbishop Brigadier General Dr Miron Chodakowski (1957-2010), Orthodox Ordinary (Field Bishop) of the Polish Army

Today, in the morning, during its approach to landing at the airport in Smolensk, the plane carrying the Polish president crashed. On board was a Polish delegation headed by the President of Poland and his wife travelling to a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Katyń tragedy. About 100 people, including the Orthodox Ordinary (Field Bishop) of the Polish Army, His Excellency Archbishop Brigadier General Dr Miron Chodakowski, died in the crash. There were no survivors.

Bishop Miron (Miroslaw Chodakowski) was born on 21 October 1957 in Bialystok. He graduated from primary school, and, in 1972, entered the Orthodox Seminary in Warsaw. After 1976, he was a student of the Higher Orthodox Seminary in Jableczna. After graduation, he worked at the seminary as officer, teacher, and educator. On 17 December 1978, Archimandrite Sawa Jabłeczna tonsured him a rassofore monk, and, on 26 December of that year, Metropolitan Bazyli Doroszkiewicz ordained him to the diaconate. On 15 February 1979, Metropolitan Bazyli ordained him to the priesthood. In early November 1979, he professed the vows of the small schema. In 1981, he became Assistant of the Monastery and vice-rector of the Higher Jabłeczna Orthodox Seminary. In 1984, he became one of the clergy Bialystok-Gdansk diocese and was appointed the parish priest in Supraśl. In 1989, he was awarded a cross with decorations. In connection with the restitution of the Monastery of Supraśl, Archbishop Sawa Hrycuniak appointed him the Assistant of the Monastery in Supraśl. In 1990, he was elevated to the dignity of archimandrite. In the meantime, he graduated from Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw. On 10 May 1998, he was ordained to the episcopate as Bishop of Hajnówka and named as the Orthodox Ordinary (Field Bishop) of the Polish Army, a post he held until his death. On 15 August 1998, the President of Poland, Aleksander Kwasniewski, raised him to the rank of Brigadier General. In 2003, he received a Ph.D. in Theology at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw. On 10 May 2008, at the military parish in Biala Podlaska, His Eminence Metropolitan Sawa Hrycuniak of Warsaw and all Poland elevated Bishop Miron to the dignity of Archbishop.

In connection with the tragic death of Bishop Miron, Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and all Poland took over his duties, and appointed a Commission tasked with organising the funeral of Archbishop Miron. The composition of the Commission is:

  • Colonel Mitred Archpriest Michael Dudicz, Dean of the Army, Deputy Ordinary
  • Colonel Archpriest Alexis Andrejuk, Dean of the Air Force
  • Colonel Jerzy Wiluk, Chief of the Secretariat of the Orthodox Ordinary HR

Details of the funeral of the late Archbishop Miron will be announced later. This afternoon, in the Metropolitan Cathedral in Warsaw, Metropolitan Sawa served a Pannikhida for repose of the souls of those killed in the plane crash, including the President, Archbishop Miron, and all other victims of the tragedy.

Вечная памят!

On Sunday, 11 April, all churches will offer memorial prayers for the victims of the plane crash.
