Has the Church changed its position that the government must act to curb the excesses of the private sector since the time of Iakovos Koukouzis? No, it hasn’t… not one little bit, one jot, one tittle, or one iota.
Ponder that as you see some “Orthodox” support neoliberalism and laissez faire non-regulation. Just as it was right for Archbishop Iakovos Koukouzis to march alongside Martin Luther King, just as it was right for Russian Orthodox priests to bless striking coal miners, it’s still right to come out in support of the victimised… we’re not supposed to be cheerleaders for the victimisers!
Be careful about the word “freedom”… it’s used by some in an Orwellian manner… look how the neoliberals used it in Citizens United! Observe who supported that noisome little decree… then, draw your own conclusions…
