THIS is the end result of the American-sponsored war in Central Asia. At first, the US backed the mujahideen against the Soviets. Then, the US backed the Taliban against the secular DRA. Finally, the US invaded directly to topple its clients, who had turned and “bit” their “benefactors”. There has been no peace for 30 years in Afghanistan… mostly due to American Neoliberal meddling. It’s not mattered whether it’s been George W Bush or Barack Obama… Richard Cheney or Joseph Biden… Condoleeza Rice or Hilary Clinton. They’ve all frittered away money and lives in a vain pursuit of trying to install a pro-US puppet state in the Hindu Kush. Nevertheless, the Republicans invaded directly… and this war is hellishly expensive due to the long logistics chain.
The Republican Party refuses to scale back American meddling abroad. I’m no pacifist… I’m all for a strong response to actual attacks. I agree with Tsar Aleksandr Aleksandrovich’s attitude, “I am a man of peace. Russia will be strong enough that no one will ever think of attacking her” (that’s why he was one of the best tsars… the land had peace, and he was an upright man who was faithful to his wife and family). Is it nasty to point up that such GOP stalwarts and icons of the wingnut faithful as Rush Limbaugh, Richard Cheney, Sean Hannity, George W Bush, Bill O’ Reilly, Dan Quayle, Mitch McConnell, Newt Gingrich, and Glenn Beck were all Chicken Hawk cowards who either never served or dodged war-time service by serving in the reserves (and yet most of them deploy the most scathingly jingoistic rhetoric imaginable)? I seem to remember that John Kerry DID serve in a combat zone… interesting observation, wot?
