Here’s the poster… here’s the ironic part. We SHOULD thank the VOV vets… all of us. Without them, Hitler wouldn’t have been defeated. However, this proves, even for the slow learners, the STUPIDITY of the rightwing of the Republican Party. What does that tell you about them in general? What a buncha maroons… by the way… DO thank a Soviet veteran… they kicked Hitler’s arse.

It’s hard to invite controversy by suggesting that US troops deserve praise and thanks. However, Virginia Republicans managed to do just that last week; an ad intended to attack Democratic State Senator Mark Herring for his veterans’ services record backfired badly when the central image in the mailing turned out to be a photograph of a former Soviet officer. “Always thank a veteran… because Mark Herring won’t!” the mailer exhorts readers. Yet, the campaign message appears alongside an image of a soldier wearing Soviet military garb… including a medal featuring the trademark “CCCP” insignia of the Red Army, as a local GOP politics blog called Too Conservative noted. Herring’s Republican opponent Patricia Phillips confirmed to Yahoo News Monday morning that the mistake… caught by local blogs Friday… was indeed just that. She explained that her campaign has expressed “sincere regrets” and communicated its “sincere intent to honour veterans” of this country. What’s the beef? The man’s a Great Patriotic War vet who fought alongside the USA against Hitler. Don’t forget, the US Army and the Red Army both liberated Nazi death camps. That’s why the USSR and the USA were allies. They had a common foe in Nazi Germany. It shows the dirt-dumb ignorance of Republican Party activists. Firstly, the man was obviously wearing the uniform of the Soviet Navy. Secondly, he was an ally of the USA in the war… a fact often alluded to by Red Army vets. Thirdly, he may have liberated American soldiers held prisoners by the Nazis in Eastern POW camps. Get a life, all of you. He deserves thanks from Americans… all Sov vets do. Next thing you know, the Republican Party will try to erase Sputnik and Gagarin from history for showing up “the city on a hill”… history’s what it is, and the USSR and the USA fought as allies… give the vet a break, give the Republican candidate hell. That’s the ticket.

By the way, this came to you from the Loudon County Republican Committee, which also gave us the image of President Obama as a zombie with a bullet hole in his head. I’d say that good taste, street smarts, and prudence aren’t amongst its strong points. I’d also say that they’re poster children for the general ignorance and stupidity regnant in the current Republican Party. Give me a McMansion! Tear down regulation! Rape the workers! Hip, Hip, Hip, Hooray, for Clueless Greed! Ms Phillips is a chowderheaded Reagan fan who believes that the USA “won” the Cold War. Yet, she and her staff are so DUMB that they didn’t catch this. Her Reagan worship makes this gaffe twice as hilarious. She and her staff attempted to use a Soviet veteran, a denizen of the “Evil Empire”, as a poster boy for their xenophobic rightwing fantasies. Pass me the jug… the world’s being it’s crank self again. Just think… these people say that they DESERVE their above-the-median incomes. This shows such assertions up for what they truly are. What have we fallen to?

You might be interested to know that Paffhausen, Potapov, Reardon, Mattingly, Alexander Webster, Freeman, Freddie M-G, and Rod Dreher all support xenophobic rightwing meatheads like Patricia Phillips (don’t forget… Potapov accused Patriarch Aleksei of being a Sov agent prior to 2000). They think that it’s compatible with Christ’s Church and His Gospel, no less. What does that tell you about their general intelligence and judgement? As for me, I prefer to stand with St Aleksei Toth… he stood with the Wobblies, the IWW! You can have these overstuffed and overpaid grasping rightwing loonies or you can have our beloved babas and dedes, who fought the good fight on the picket line, in the union halls, and in the mines and mills (and hoisted a glass or two at the proper time, natch). It’s your choice, kids…

One last thing… the reason that this wasn’t caught by the staff is because the Republican Party’s full of Chicken Hawks… warmongers and brutes who refused to serve their country… such as Dropout Scott Walker, Bill O’Reilly, Newt Gingrich, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh… the list goes ever onward. They’re all war wimps… ”Someone who’s all too willing to send others to war, but never got ’round to going himself” (US Representative Andrew Jacobs (IN–D), a Marine veteran of the Korean War). This example has often been attached to former Vice President Dick Cheney, who in his youth received five draft notices, but sought deferment to all of them, claiming he had “more important business”. I’d say that you shouldn’t vote for worthless cowards who want to spill others’ blood (they had to make money, dontcha know!)… ’nuff said.
