17 November 2011. Yes, Virginia, There was a St Platon Russian Orthodox Seminary in Tenafly NJ

The above image shows the iconostas at St Platon Russian Orthodox Seminary in Tenafly NJ. The Church lost the seminary after the Russian Revolution, because of the clueless incompetence of Archbishop Aleksandr Nemolovsky, the ruling ordinary at the time. Nemolovsky was the equal of JP in incompetence and dithering, but he wasn’t as nasty in personality (he was more an inconstant milquetoast than a blustering ignorant dolt). This iconostas still exists; it’s in the OCA parish in Bayonne NJ… I wonder how many know the history of this iconostas? If only objects could talk…

The above image shows St Platon Russian Orthodox Seminary String Orchestra in 1918. At the centre, to the right of Fr Vladimir Prislopsky (the guy with the balalaika), is Fr Joseph Pishtey. At the extreme left is Fr Dmitri Ressetar. Little did they know what was about to happen…

In short, the OCA/Metropolia survived an incompetent and boobish fool as First Hierarch before. It shall do so again, no doubt. However, I wouldn’t bet on the konvertsy being amongst us at the end of it all. I think that the chances of them flouncing off to form their own “pure” conventicle à la the Old Ritualists is VERY high, indeed. Frankly, it can’t happen soon enough to suit me…
