Akin isn’t alone, I fear. Check out the following:
In his closing debate in favour of SB 1387, Senator Chuck Winder (R-Boise), said, “This bill does not require a trans-vaginal exam. … It leaves that up to the patient and the physician to make that determination. Rape and incest was used as a reason to oppose this. I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage, or was it truly caused by a rape. I assume that’s part of the counselling that goes on”.

Federal Judge James Leon Holmes, a Bush II appointee, said in an article published circa 1997, “Concern for rape victims is a red herring because conceptions from rape occur with approximately the same frequency as snowfall in Miami”.

Women don’t get pregnant when raped because “the juices don’t flow, the body functions don’t work” during an attack, a state lawmaker said yesterday. Republican Representative Henry Aldridge made the remarks to the House Appropriations Committee as it debated a proposal to eliminate a state abortion fund for poor women. Aldridge, a 71-year-old periodontist, said, “The facts show that people who are raped… who are truly raped… the juices don’t flow, the body functions don’t work, and they don’t get pregnant. Medical authorities agree that this is a rarity, if ever”.

The odds that a woman who is raped will get pregnant are “one in millions and millions and millions”, said State Representative Stephen Freind (R-Delaware County), the Legislature’s leading abortion foe. The reason, Freind said, is that the traumatic experience of rape causes a woman to “secrete a certain secretion” that tends to kill sperm.

I did NOT make this shit up. This is a snapshot of the Pro-Life Movement, and it’s why I’ve come to oppose it. It’s nothing but a stalking horse for Far Right interests who wish to dismantle state social welfare programmes in order to enrich themselves at society’s expense. I agree with His Holiness, that state social welfare is an integral part of any REAL Pro-Life programme. Click here for the Church’s REAL Pro-Life programme… which includes a large dose of funding from the state.
Oh, yes, all the “Pro-Lifers” are also pro-aggressive war in foreign parts, pro-putting “darkies” (I’m using the term I’ve heard many GOPers use openly) in the slammer, and pro-capital punishment, they oppose all regulation on Wall Street, they wish to illegalise trades unions, and many wish to criminalise homosexuality. They’re also Neanderthals in science, as they believe in a “young Earth”, a six-solar day creation, and you saw their views on the female reproductive system. It’s why I oppose the Born-Agains with all my might. Their religion isn’t true… Our Lord Christ taught nothing remotely similar. In fact, they have NO relation whatsoever with Historical Christianity, let alone Christ’s Church, and we should say so openly. All those who associate with such heretics risk contamination and infection with their oddbod notional ideology.
This is too much of a muchness… you KNOW what to do in November.
An Aside to Orthodox People:
One of the people, besides the usual cast of suspects, to be wary of is one Josiah Trenham, a konvertsy priest in California. He attacks birth control. Here‘s what the Church thinks of his maunderings. Well, Fr Vsevolod Chaplin, the closest adviser to HH, said that birth control’s licit. You can believe Fr Vsevolod, or you can believe this Trenham upstart. I think that I prefer Fr Vsevolod… he has HH’s backing… and Trenham doesn’t. Beware konvertsy and their odd pronouncements (any resemblance between them and real Orthodoxy is purely coincidental, not meant, and probably accidental). Gad, sir, they ain’t Orthodox, and that’s that.
The hypocrisy of the Pro-Life Movement (and the manic secrecy over Mitten‘s tax returns) show that people like Todd Akin, Darrell Issa, Wafflin’ Willy, and Paul Ryan are posturing and gibbering hypocrites, unworthy of anyone’s trust… you know what to do…
