Of course, it’s a high-tech samogon apparat, that’s a moonshine still for all you not in the know. Who other than a bunch of thirsty Russkies would have a computer-controlled home-distilling set-up? Hey… if the government gets on a “dry” kick again (it happens about once a generation… you can see how well it works), well, Russians know what to do. I’ll betcha that this fellow’s neighbours (including the local coppers) will know where to go to find some ass-kickin’ firewater…

The man’s holding a pickle, a stereotypical Russian snack whilst imbibing… another well-known nibble is processed cheese. Russians do NOT drink without eating something… only drunks drink without eating, dontcha know!

The Telegraph reported that scientists managed to invent a pill that neutralises the action of alcohol. The researchers explained that these pills might allow someone to drink alcohol and not get drunk. In addition, the inventors went on to say that they could relieve a hangover. American and Australian scientists successfully tested the new drug on mice. They hope that the pill would have the same effect on people as it does on rodents.

German scientists established the rate of penetration of alcohol in the human brain. They found that it takes alcohol six minutes to affect brain cells, the newspaper The Telegraph reported. One of the initiators of the experiment, neurologist Armin Biller, from the working group for cerebral metabolism at the Department of Neuroradiology at Heidelberg University Hospital, said that alcohol reduces the amount of chemicals that normally protect the brain cells. Moreover, alcohol affects not only the “defenders” of our brain cells, but also many other cellular components. Tests have also shown that changes in brain cells under the influence of alcohol does not depend on sex, and regenerative processes in the brain occur in a relatively short period of time in healthy adults, if alcoholic beverages are used in moderate quantities.

Russian engineers presented a new remote alcohol sensor, the Buton (Flower-Bud), which can detect alcohol vapours inside a moving vehicle. The remote alcohol sensor with a laser beam can zoom in on a drunk driver at the wheel. The Buton can scan moving vehicles up to 150 kilometres per hour. The RF MVD plans to take the equipment into service at the end of the year.
