9 March 2013. You Can’t Make Up Shit Like This… Gun Nutter Governor in South Dakota Signs Bill Authorising Armed Guards in Schools… WHAT A MAROON!

MFP Image Format

______________________________

On Friday, CNN reported that South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard signed a controversial bill that allows school boards in the mostly-rural state to let school employees, hired security personnel, or volunteers carry guns in schools. Under the new law, which comes into effect on 1 July, school boards will be able to establish school sentinel programmes “to secure or enhance the deterrence of physical threat and defence of the school, its students, its staff, and members of the public on the school premises against violent attack”. All “sentinels” will have to pass a weapons training course similar to the one designed for South Dakota law enforcement officers.

The move came in the wake of a brutal shooting at a school in Connecticut in December last year that left 20 young children and 6 adult staff dead. It also reflects a deep divide between tough gun control advocates, including US President Barack Obama, and gun rights supporters backed by the powerful the National Rifle Association. Recently, Obama called for a ban on military-style assault weapons, a limit on the number of rounds in individual magazine clips, and a comprehensive background check and database for all gun buyers in the nation.

The Second Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees American citizens the “right to bear arms”. However, the historical and societal interpretation of those words is at the heart of the impassioned debate about guns in the USA today. Gun control advocates argue the Founding Fathers who drafted the Constitution and other documents didn’t necessarily mean that all citizens have the right to bear any kind of arms and have access to any amount of ammunition at any time and in any context. Gun rights supporters say the president’s proposals are unconstitutional and a violation of citizens’ rights.

Editor’s Note:

Let’s take a look at the text of the Second Amendment:

A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Hmm… the “right” to bear arms is linked indissolubly with “a well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state”. That means that arms-bearing and militia membership go hand-in-hand. One could argue, using “strict constructivist” guidelines, that the only people who have an untrammelled right to bear arms are those who are members of a recognised federal or state military reserve unit (such IS the modern incarnation of a “militia”, after all). There is no “right” to have guns because one “wants to own them”… nor is there a right to own guns to “oppose a tyrannical government”. The only right granted by the US Constitution is that since guns are necessary to an efficient militia for the common defence, citizens shall have the right to own them. The wording of the Amendment does NOT confer an unrestricted or unrestrained right to own weapons… that is crucial to the intent of the Founders… do note that the clause concerning a militia comes first, implying that it trumps the later (subordinate) clause. This could mean that the government could ban handgun ownership, as handguns are militarily useless.

Strict construction requires a judge to apply the text only as it is. Look at the Second Amendment… it makes explicit mention of a “militia”, and that such a militia is “necessary” for the defence of the state. Therefore, strict construction, which is beloved of the Troglodyte Right, requires judges to strike down permissive gun ownership laws. In short, all pro-gun nutter judges are actually “activist jurists”, reading meaning into the Amendment that isn’t there. In fact, since there are well-regulated and legally-established military reserve units, with appropriate stored weapons and munitions, strict construction would lead one to the inescapable conclusion that the government could (and, indeed, MUST) ban most private-ownership of weapons (with the possible exception of registered hunters), as the already-provided-for military reserve is the modern “well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state”. There’s no way around it. The wording of the Amendment is clear; it isn’t at all vague or incoherent. The maintenance of an organised militia force and arms-bearing by citizens go hand-in-hand. The NRA and Governor Daugaard are chock fulla shit. They’ve invented a “right” that the Founders never intended to confer.

Isn’t it funny when the Righties bite their own arse? They can’t get around it without using the methods and arguments of “activists”. Reflect on this… they’re so stupid and dense that they can’t see the obvious truth in the Second Amendment. Do you really want such sorts in charge of the country? I don’t… and I’m not alone…

19 January 2013. Don’t Believe Everything That You Hear on the News Department… Be Kind to Your Interlocutors, They Only Know What the Corporate Media Feeds Them

00a Russia. Chaplain. Belarus. Spetsnaz. 19.01.13

______________________________

Talk about media obsession! Over the last three days at work, they had CNN blatting away in the corner in the lunchroom. They’re obsessing over Lance Armstrong (a washed-up jock) and some jerkoff jabronie at Notre Dame with an imaginary girlfriend. I kid you not! They didn’t talk about the Algerian hostage crisis… they didn’t talk about the fighting in Mali… they didn’t talk about the Syrian Army kicking ass on the insurgents… they didn’t talk about Russia and China giving support to Iran. They didn’t report the massive First Nations protest in Canada snarling up traffic at the border between Detroit and Windsor… they didn’t report the good economic news from Russia and Belarus… they didn’t report about the Magnitsky Law or about Russia’s response to it, the Guantánamo List. Fox is the same thing, only from the other side of the crapitalist coin.

Be generous with your interlocutors. Most only follow the crank American “news” networks (remember, Canada wouldn’t let Fox operate, as it isn’t really a news operation, it’s a propaganda outlet), so, they only know what the Corporate Leadership wants them to know. If they saw the above image… a Belarusian army chaplain with spetsnaz troopers… they’d say, “Hey, that’s a lot like here. They look like stand-up guys to me”. Remember, most haven’t read what we’ve read or seen what we’ve seen. Give ‘em a break. Tell ‘em the truth, but give ‘em a break. We just might win some friends and influence some people. After all, the greedsters are showing their bloody talons… a lot of people who didn’t see what’s out there before, are seeing it now. They’re seeing that “trickle down” really meant “trickle upon”, and we all know what flows down, don’t we? It’s not prosperity or honey, kids…

“Nauseating” to “Intense”: American Media Swells with Debate Reaction

This requires no comment from me… it’s why no decent person can vote for Willard Romney… full stop…

______________________________

For some, it was a “nauseating” pseudo-clash of wonky compassionless political automatons. For others, it was an “intense” and substantial clash on live TV of competing ideologies and visions for the immediate future of the USA. Whatever the perspective, on Wednesday, the American media was bursting with a torrent of opinions, assessments, and solemn pronouncements on the performances of Democrat President Barack Obama and his Republican rival for the White House, Mitt Romney, in their latest public debate. Here is a sampling of some of the best comments (and links to the full article) on online American media following Tuesday’s debate:

  • The headline in an article on the Forbes website moaned, “Romney vs Obama Was a Nauseating Draw, and Both Deserve to Lose”.
  • A television news anchor on CBS exclaimed, “We’ve never seen anything like that in presidential history. It was the most rancorous presidential debate ever”.
  • An opinion piece in the conservative Washington Times charged, “Another debate, another débâcle for America’s media”.
  • The New York Times stated in a report summarising the debate, “The exchanges were intense and personal”.
  • A pro-Obama analysis published on the Huffington Post website explained, “The result is a race that’s at once clearer and just as uncertain”.
  • The headline over a news story published on The Wall Street Journal website blared, “Candidates Tangle in Fractious Debate”.
  • Josh Gerstein, White House reporter for the Politico website, opined in an interview on Washington’s WTOP radio, “If it was a draw, I think the draw in this case goes to the president, because the onus was really on him to come out of his gate strong here, which he did”.
  • Using a term from baseball to describe when the batter takes a big swing and fails to connect with the ball, in a story labelled “analysis” on its website CNN asserted, “Romney Whiffs on Some Easy Pitches”.
  • Ron Fournier, veteran White House correspondent, complained in an article published by the National Journal, “Bottom line: Obama and Romney scored points while turning off independent voters with their point-scoring”.
  • Dave McConnell, congressional correspondent for WTOP radio, asserted, “President Obama came back big-time from the way he was a week ago”.

Democrat Biden Wins Clear-Cut Victory in Vice-Presidential Debates

______________________________

According to a CBS poll, Democrat Joseph Biden won a clear-cut victory in yesterday’s American vice-presidential debates; Biden polled 50 percent of the audience’s votes, whilst his rival, Republican Paul Ryan, got a mere 31 percent of the votes. However, according to CNN, Paul Ryan won by a narrow margin. This prompted the internet community to level scathing criticism at CNN. More than 100 commenters on the CNN website questioned the veracity of the CNN poll returns. Most site users are certain that Biden, beyond any doubt, won the debates.

Editor’s Note:

There’s a reason why the polls differed. CBS is an “over-the-air” network and CNN’s a “cable-only” channel. Therefore, the CNN audience is more affluent, whiter, and more suburban. Is it any surprise that Ryan won their poll, then? This gives us a hint as to November. The Prez will win because the Republicans have pissed off moderate- and lower-income Americans (except for sectarian religious nutters in the American South and Mormonia). The GOP is barrelling “full steam ahead” for the abyss… whilst Romney cackles in moronic glee. It won’t be pretty…
