I post these memories for a reason. They’re evidence of our real history and tradition. If you claim to know our “tradition”, then, you have to know our history, both as an institution and as a people.
Most of you are well-aware of Rod Dreher‘s latest juvenile rant on Monomuckos. He attempts to lecture us on “tradition”… well, excuse me! I’d submit that Mr Dreher wouldn’t know Tradition if it came up and bit him squarely on the arse. He also tries to lecture us concerning Paffhausen… what a great guy he was… yadda, yadda, yadda. I’ll say this… I handed a letter to Fathausen’s deacon in May 2009. I received NO REPLY. Not even “Go to hell” or “Kiss my arse”. Nothing at all… and Dreher expects us to believe that JP was a paragon that the Church couldn’t do without. I’ve heard from multiple sources that JP was an inveterate liar… he’d deny that he’d said or done things, even if offered proof. Moreover, Dreher ignores the reality of Fathausen’s long and intimate relationship with the questionable Gleb Podmoshensky… why, that doesn’t bother him at all. Neither is Sir Roddie concerned by JP’s lack of monastic formation (he was made an “abbot” a year after tonsure) or his advocacy of the imialavie heresy.
Most of all, Sir Roddie lectures us on how we’re not moral enough to realise what a prize package JP was. Did he forget that JP served with Feodosy Lazor and Herman Swaiko at the St Tikhon Pilgrimage? In any case, JP’s vendetta against homosexuals wasn’t in the tradition of our Church here. Look, everybody knew everybody else, and everybody knew who the gays were… as long as they didn’t raise a rumpus or be too flaming during liturgy, everything was copasetic. The Metropolia was modest… it was “live and let live”. It didn’t have the Proddie itch to “save the world”. Sir Roddie doesn’t seem to understand that JP’s dalliance with Radical Right elements in the District, as much as it pleased him, wasn’t in the old-time Metropolia tradition. The Metropolia was a union man’s Church… not the bosses’ Church, that’s something that Sir Roddie refuses to acknowledge.
Most of all, the Metropolia had sobriety… that’s something that Rod Dreher would do well to work on acquiring… he doesn’t have it now. Leonty Turkevich or James Paffhausen? There’s no contest… and Sir Roddie had best come to realise that, or all of his posturing will be nothing but vain crowing. Let’s follow what baba and dede did… not what the konvertsy are advocating… that’s the ticket, I say.

Look at the above charts. If the American war budget were cut in half, it’d still be three times that of the #2 on the list, the People’s Republic of China. There’s no need to cut the social safety net at all. In fact, if corporate taxes and taxes on the wealthy were returned to their 1960 levels, the deficit would be shrunk considerably in a decade. The present economic mess is the direct result of massive increases in the war budget coupled with massive giveaways to the Affluent Effluent. I’m not proposing a return to an isolationist “Fortress America”… the USA‘s legit FEBA runs from the Aleutians to Guam to Australia in the Pacific theatre, and from the GIUK Gap to the Azores to Ascension Island in the Atlantic theatre. The actual national interest of the USA involves the defence of the Anglosphere and its maritime communications lines. Everything else is someone else’s affair. Remember the old military maxim, “He who defends everything, defends nothing”. In short, reject the Republican lies… they want a massive increase in an already-bloated war budget, with further giveaways to the layabout Affluent Effluent. A good deal of the war budget is corruption (don’t you just laugh at American congressmen, the world champions of bribery and boodle, calling the Russian government “corrupt”… I’ll retire to Bedlam with Mr Scrooge).

Lately, Rod Dreher has been bleating about Paffhausen on several internet fora. I’d say that JP was allied to the worst and most feral segments of the Republican Party… he spoke at extremist “libertarian” (rightwing anarchist) venues like the American Enterprise Institute (and Dreher drooled his approval). That is, JP allied himself with the enemies of the Orthosphere and wanted to ally the Church with such demonic elements. Paffhausen (and Dreher) wanted to see the Republican war programme, with its concomitant cuts to the safety net, in full force. They wanted to see the Affluent Effluent get MORE at the expense of ordinary people. They supported the Hegemonist delusions of the Inside the Beltway lot.
God saved us from such an evil. May we never come so close to objective godlessness again. It takes all kinds in this world, even the Rod Drehers… do pass me the jug…
