Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin sez the Lands of Holy Rus Could Change all Mankind in a Decade

The Baptism of Russia

Viktor Vasnetsov

1896

______________________________

Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, the head of the MP Department for Church and Society, said that Russia, the Ukraine, Belarus and other Eastern Orthodox countries are called upon to change all of mankind, saying, “Our Orthodox Eastern Slavonic civilisation isn’t the largest, but it’s a key sector because we now know how to open the door to a better life for the whole world, especially in Europe”. Fr Vsevolod made these remarks in Moscow on Monday during a Moscow-Kiev-Minsk video-link dedicated to the international public hearing in Kiev scheduled for 28 July, the Day of the Baptism of Holy Rus {the feastday of Grand Prince St Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles, and Enlightener of all Holy Rus: editor}, presided over by Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias.

According to Fr Vsevolod, the future of Europe lies not in London, Paris, or Brussels, but in Kiev, Minsk, Moscow, Kishinyov, Athens, and Bucharest, “the cities that are the centres of the Eastern Orthodox civilisation. Today, we in Kiev, Minsk, and Moscow are more ‘European’ than the Western countries. The West has departed from the ideals of Rome and Christendom, based on Roman law and Christian principles, conjoined by the Roman Emperors Constantine and Justinian. With this in mind, today, our civilisation shouldn’t succumb to the weak-willed West or to the intellectually-flabby East. We needn’t be dependent on others and be mere followers in the world dialogue of civilisations; we need to reunite intellect and will, tradition and innovation, faith and life, the spiritual and the so-called worldly. It’s our duty to change the world in the space of a decade… and we can do it”.

He hoped that the celebration of the Baptism of Holy Rus in Russia, Belarus, and the Ukraine would be an exciting event, “but most importantly… done with insight”, so that it’d attract a large number of young people, to help them reflect on the fact that this holiday “symbolises something much more important than economics, politics, or disputes over the details of state administration. All such mundane things change constantly, but we hope and believe that the vector of our people’s civilisational development will remain unchanged. Today, we have the call to build an Eastern Orthodox civilisation, which would hold the keys to the future of the world. If we don’t, the alternative is the Apocalypse”.

Editor’s Note:

This is one of the meatiest things to come from Vsevolod Anatolyevich in a long time. Note:

Today, we in Kiev, Minsk, and Moscow are more “European” than the Western countries. The West has departed from the ideals of Rome and Christendom, based on Roman law and Christian principles, conjoined by the Roman Emperors Constantine and Justinian.

When Russians talk of “Rome”, they don’t mean just ancient Rome; they also mean the Empire of Christian New Rome, for that’s where we got Christianity from, from Constantinopolis Nea Romana… what the Western heretics call the “Byzantine Empire”. Do note how the Uniates suck up to them, talking of “Byzantine” liturgy, or a “Byzantine” theology… we Russians should know better. New Rome is the organic successor of Old Rome (in fact, it’s more precise to speak of “Pagan Rome” and “Christian Rome”), there was no “Fall” of the Empire… there WAS a loss of the Western provinces of the Imperium. The Empire lasted until Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos fell in battle against the Turks in 1453… that’s a historical fact.

Also, note this:

Today, we have the call to build an Eastern Orthodox civilisation, which would hold the keys to the future of the world. If we don’t, the alternative is the Apocalypse.

In short, Vsevolod Anatolyevich is issuing a call to build the Orthosphere… a civilisation where the ideals of Orthodoxy would merge with the best secular trends… to oppose the godless, mendacious, greedy, and Mammon-worshipping West. Reflect on this, the so-called “Evangelicals”, Mormons, and Pentecostalists are NOT our allies. They are INDIVIDUALISTS to the core; their “religion” is nothing but an apologia for social and economic anarchy. Not all anarchists are in rags and throw bombs… some sit on corporate boards or are preachers in this-or-that “megachurch”. The ideology of the “conservatives” in the Anglosphere is completely at odds with the deposit of Christendom and of Roman Law… it’s nothing but an unregulated arena where the strongest and most ruthless prey on everyone else. That has nothing in common with Our Lord Christ and with what He taught… and I think that Vsevolod Anatolyevich would agree with me.

This is one of the best things that I’ve translated in a LONG time.

Ukrainian Nationalists Fear a Transfer of St Sophia Cathedral in Kiev to the Moscow Patriarchate

St Sophia Cathedral in Kiev (Kiev Special City) THE UKRAINE

______________________________

The Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists (KUN) is against the possible transfer of St Sophia Cathedral in Kiev to the Moscow Patriarchate. Our Interfax correspondent reported that about ten protesters gathered outside the entrance of St Sophia on Monday. They held party banners and a national flag, as well as banners with slogans such as “The History of the St Sophia – The History of Rus-Ukraine” and “St Sophia is Kievan, not Muscovite”. They also unfurled a banner with a picture of Patriarch Kirill portrayed with an American dollar sign on his chest and saying, “I want St Sophia in Kiev!” The press service of KUN noted that this alleged action requires the authorities to preserve St Sofia of Kiev’s National Reserve status in order to “preserve this unique monument from destruction and not disturb inter-confessional peace in the Ukraine”. Earlier, Viktor Vechersky, the First Deputy Head of the State Service for National Cultural Heritage gave assurances that the state wouldn’t transfer the ownership of St Sofia of Kiev National Reserve to the canonical Orthodox Church. On 9 June 2011, a decree of the Cabinet of Ministers passed the control of all the property attached to the St Sofia of Kiev National Reserve to the Ministry of Culture. The buildings of St Sophia Cathedral and its associated monastic complex are on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Editor’s Note:

“About ten protesters gathered outside the entrance of St Sophia”… that’s not exactly a groundswell, is it? As for His Holiness selling out to the Americans, that’s a gas! The Americans (especially the noxious “neocons”) have always done their best to smash the Church in the face… they’ve supported such slimers as the Uniates, Ukrainian schismatics, the Aleksandr Men nutters in the real Church, the ROCOR rebels who refused the ’07 reconciliation (truthfully, most of the rank n’ filers are misguided Vlasovtsy and their descendents… they’re not schismatics, they’re only separated for the time being), and the Rusantsov lot. Have a drink and laugh… TEN people showed up. These guys are nothing but the most extreme rightwing fascists. HO HUM. Yanukovich must be getting ready to turn St Sophia back to its rightful owner, the MP. That’s a GOOD thing. After all, the schismatics ain’t Orthodox according to the canons, and the Uniates are nothing but Catholics with an Orthodox rituale (to fool the unwary and simple). Things are being put right in the Ukraine… what’s to complain about? Pass the jug and SMILE.

Oh… one last thing… St Sophia Cathedral and the Kievo-Pechersky Lavra were formerly under the control of two different government ministries. Now, they’re under the same ministerial umbrella. Hmm… the Kievo-Pecherskaya Lavra is the HQ of the canonical Church… are you thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’? God willing, St Sophia will be a cathedral of the REAL Church again, a sign of Little Russia‘s unity with the rest of Holy Rus. May that day some soon.

A Map of Kievan Rus in the Eleventh Century

******

There have been some loud Galician Uniate boobs making loud claims on their websites. Well… it’s time to refute such, in a civilised manner, of course. Russians are not bezkulturny louts who toss about phrases like “katsap” and “moskal“. Look at the maps… I got them from Wikipedia, I wished to use a neutral non-Russian source. Much of the present-day Ukraine wasn’t in the Kievan State. Indeed, most of its territory laid in the contemporary Russian Federation. It looked northwards, not to the south or to the west. Kiev was, indeed, “the Mother of all Russian Cities”. Don’t forget Prince Dmitri Bobrok Volynsky, the hero of the Kulikovo Field. To hammer the point in further, look at the second map below.

Interesting, ain’t it? However, the people I feel sorry for are those who are led astray by such boobs. I’d warn all Orthodox Christians that Uniates have an agenda… they wish to join us to the papal confession. Unfortunately, they’re willing to lie and distort in the service of their pope (in my experience, Uniates are the most rabid papists of any Roman Catholic). They also tell you about how Orthodox are in intercommunion with them and how Uniates and Orthodox are such bosom buddies. That’s a lie… there’s much violence, especially in Galicia, and no Orthodox First Hierarch has issued an ukaz authorising any form of cooperation or communio in sacris with these heretics. In short, these people are spiritual frauds, best avoided. I’m not attacking anyone personally nor am I telling you that they are nasty individuals. They aren’t, emphatically not. That’s a tough one, isn’t it… how can nice people act in such a manner? I can’t answer that one… however, fight clean, fight fair, and don’t fall into hatred. Fight the idea, forgive the person. Note well that I didn’t use any names… people have a positive right to privacy… ideas are fair game, though. If we hit Uniate priests in the face with iron bars as they do to our priests in Galicia, we do the devil’s own work. What did Our Lord say, “hate the sin, love the sinner”… that’s the ticket for me.

Deacon Andrei Kuraev thinks the so-called “Patriarchate of Kiev” should Question Grand Prince St Vladimir’s Holiness, as it does not consider Russia to be the Successor of Ancient Rus

Mid-19th century statue in Kiev by Klodt of Grand Prince Equal-to-the-Apostles St Vladimir (950-1015), the Baptiser of Russia in 988

______________________________

Deacon Andrei Kuraev, a professor at the Moscow Theological Academy and a popular preacher, thinks that since Philaret Denisenko, the self-proclaimed “primate” of the so-called “Patriarchate of Kiev”, believes that Russia isn’t the successor of ancient Rus; the next logical step would be to question the holiness of Grand Prince St Vladimir, the Baptiser of Russia. “Since [Philaret's] a deposed cleric, his opinions are of no consequence for the MP. However, if his proposal finds a response in Orange circles in Kiev, then, the next logical question for this so-called ‘patriarch’ to raise would be the revocation of the canonisation of Grand Prince St Vladimir”, stated Fr Andrei in an article published Friday in the newspaper Komsolmoskaya Pravda (Komsomol Truth). “This very same person was an occupier and aggressor in the Soviet period, for he brought troops into Novogorod to ‘restore order’ (this same Philaret who doesn’t consider Rus Russia)”, noted Deacon Andrei. He expressed regret à propos the fact that “numerous semi-educated ‘historians’ and ‘philologists’” have popped up in the Ukraine “who manipulate the historical evidence any which way they please. They pump up minor episodes such as the Battle of Konotop into major events, because the Cossacks supposedly defeated the Russians. However, they attempt to erase the memory of all the battles where Russians and Ukrainians fought together against external enemies”.

As was reported recently, the “church” headed by Philaret Denisenko held a “Local Council” as part of the celebration of the 900th anniversary of the St Mikhail of the Golden Domes Monastery and the 1,020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia. At this “council”, Denisenko declared that “Today, Moscow is trying to say that Rus refers to Russia and not the Ukraine”. He claims that the “correction” shall be introduced on the basis of old chronicles, particularly those of Nestor the Chronicler. “Ancient chronicles testify to the fact that in the 9th and 10th centuries Rus included the contemporary Ukraine, a part of Byelorussia, the States, and a part of Poland. There was no such city as Moscow then, but today they (Russians) consider themselves Rus, but, this is a perversion of history”, Denisenko emphasised.

Editor’s Note:

Many are unaware that the demographic situations are reversed in the homeland and in the diaspora. In the homeland, Galicians make up only 2 percent of the population of Greater Russia; they’re a tiny minority in an isolated (mainly rural) backwater. In the diaspora, they form a majority of the “Russian” emigration. This is due to many factors, many of which deserve more detailed treatment. Therefore, many are fooled as to the relative strength of their case and numbers. Also, the fanatical nature of the OUN (Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists) must be taken into account. Be careful of any “Ukrainian nationalist” claims you hear. They’re being issued forth by a tiny, but dedicated and loud, minority within the people of Rus. Caveat auditor.
