25 November 2012. Metropolitan Hilarion Kapral’s words to Pastoral Conference Point Up Why the ROCOR Shouldn’t Receive Paffhausen

One of the Cabinet sent me this (no URL available), from Metropolitan Hilarion Kapral, the First Hierarch of the ROCOR:

We denounce modernism and secularism in the Church and call upon our faithful to heed the words of the ever-memorable Metropolitan Philaret Voznesensky… “Hold fast what you have”. Many Orthodox in America are looking to the Russian Church for an example of steadfastness and loyalty to the traditions of Orthodoxy. We’re committed to preserving that which has been handed down to us by our pious ancestors, and we call upon the faithful to increase their support of the Church, so that our mission won’t be hindered.

Therefore, if we heed Vladyki Hilarion’s words, the ROCOR will have to reject Jonas Paffhausen’s attempt to join it. Paffhausen’s a drooling disciple of Gleb Podmoshensky, a disgraced ROCOR cleric shitcanned by the ROCOR Holy Synod for due good cause. Paffhausen’s an advocate of the imiaslavie heresy and propagated it at his “monastery”. Paffhausen’s an indifferentist who sucks up to the Uniate enemies of Christ’s Church (as do Andrei Psaryov and Vassa Larina). Paffhausen has a taste for witch-hunts… the grounded Church has never traditionally engaged in such (the Real Church didn’t burn people at the stake (Avvakum was burned by the state)). Paffhausen sought to ally the Church with anti-Christian “evangelical” and radical political elements. Paffhausen lied about his monastic formation and he was made an “abbot” one year after his tonsure (would Vladyki Philaret have done such an inanity? Most assuredly not!). In short, he’s TROUBLE in all caps. Paffhausen’s a Valentin Rusantsov or Varnava Prokofiev… MUCH more trouble than he’s worth.

The late Metropolitan Philaret didn’t suck up to Uniates… he didn’t teach heresy… he didn’t run witch-hunts (indeed, he allowed much more “freedom” than his successors did)… he didn’t try to ally the Church with godless sectarian and political elements… so, we need to show “an example of steadfastness and loyalty to the traditions of Orthodoxy”, to use Vladyki Hilarion’s words. The ROCOR must repel the efforts of Jonas Paffhausen to join it.

One of the Cabinet said this of JP:

I think that the ROCOR may take him in, but NEVER as a diocesan bishop. He’s yesterday’s convert. In the ROCOR, I doubt if they’d even make someone so immature a reader. They might take him and hide him away in a monastery because they feel sorry for him.

That’d be the only possible way to bring this troubled and deluded soul into the ROCOR. As for my opinion, I’d let him go vagante. He’s a very persuasive, conniving, and duplicitous sort… he’s an Arius, an Avvakum Petrov. We get enough trouble in the normal course of events… we shouldn’t tempt fate. This man is a known liar and troublemaker. Let him stew, I say. Again, ask yourself, “Would Vladyki Philaret have done some of the things that this man has done?” The answer’s clear.

Kauft nicht bei James Paffhausen. Either that or its trouble on steroids…

A rightwing nutter in the RF Gosduma introduced a bill to outlaw Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. It’s going nowhere fast; Putin’s not behind it, neither is HH. It’s like a crackbrained proposal to label Lenin’s works “extremist”… some rightwing ROCOR loons got Metropolitan Hilarion Kapral to sign on to it. He should just quietly back out of it… that’d fix the Vlasovtsy good for such BS, wouldn’t it?

Of course, if socially-close individuals “yawn together”, and the chimp “yawns together” with Darwin, that means that the chimp is related to Darwin, thus, proving the Theory of the Evolution of Species… QED. Another multilayered Yolkin jest…

This is the “extremism” of the Soviet period… isn’t Hilarion Kapral a bit out of line? There was much good in the USSR… mixed in with evil… that’s true of all ideologies. You don’t see him labelling the US Republican Party “extremists”… which is why the American people rejected them this year (the Republicans wanted to smash the elderly and snatch healthcare away from people to benefit the rich… nice, ain’t it?)! Get your mind right, Vladyki. Don’t let the advocates of “rugged individualism” (that’s a cover for greed and covetousness) blind you to the NEED for Christian COMMUNAL action (as the above little story so well illustrates). Don’t be suckered into supporting the oligarchs and their ecclesiastical lickspittles like the Blunder.

Read this. This is crackbrained from stem to stern. V I Lenin was many things… but this present action isn’t only quixotic, it’s doomed to utter failure (thank God). Lenin is NOT going to be found an “extremist”…  not now, not ever. This is DUMB… especially, as Russia is starting to move back towards Soviet models. However, its proof to all that Hilarion Kapral has allowed the Vlasovtsy to have undue influence. They were traitors to the rodina in the VOV… they’re traitors to the Orthosphere now (most are supporters of Far Right ideologies that have NO congruence with Christianity). He has an obligation to attack the Godless Right, if he’s going to attack the Left. After all, HH holds many leftist viewpoints, doesn’t he? This is sad… one would think that Vladyki Hilarion would show more good sense than this. God willing, this will go nowhere and Hilarion will learn from it.

The story now is that the DC Nuns and their “Monastery” were accepted into the Georgian Orthodox Church, thus fully restoring them canonically.

Interesting, if true. However, don’t forget, the late Georgian election didn’t make for a turnaround in Georgian policy towards Russia. Saakashvili had become an embarrassment to Langley, so, they put up an oligarch stooge to oppose him. I looked at the Russian news, and, sure enough, there was an important name missing from Ivanishvili‘s cabinet. Nino Burdzhanadze isn’t in the cabinet… that means that Ivanishvili is nothing but an American lickspittle, worse than Saakashvili was (no lie… the prick has French citizenship, dontcha know).

This means that the Georgian Church is becoming like the Phanar, an obsequious and obedient Stepin Fetchit for Langley. It’d explain how Fathausen got his hands on the money that he spent like a horny sailor in a jeepney on liberty in Po City. It’s a replay of the Cold War years, when Langley backed both Jordanville and SVS at the same bloody time (with Rodzianko and Potapov sticking in their thumbs and pulling out more than one plum, “Oh, what good boys are we!”).

It’s farcical, isn’t it? Yet, look at the GOOD side… it won’t endear Fathausen (who’s called “Johnnie” by a certain well-known son of a certain well-known priest) to Hilarion Kapral, that’s for certain… it’ll also piss off a bishop or two on the OCA Holy Synod. This wasn’t the brightest move in creation, but since when has JP been either prudent or insightful? He’s playing entirely according to character…

I heard that the Cossack Congress in America was invited to the big 13 October shindig celebrating the fifth anniversary of the reconciliation between the MP and the ROCOR. It gets better. There’ll be over 200 priests, Archbishop Yustinian Ovchinnikov, Metropolitan Hilarion Kapral, and many honoured guests. Not only that, it’s going to get primo coverage on Pervy Kanal and Radonezh. The Cossacks have the honour of standing vigil at the Myrrh-streaming Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, including the molieben before it.

Therefore, the Cossacks, whom Roddie Dreher denigrates, will have an honoured part of this significant celebration. Dreher, Freddie M-G, Fathausen, et al will have none. Fancy that… there IS justice in this world, after all. Rod… stop hanging about with worthless godless Russophobic trash like Pat Buchanan and the American Enterprise Institute… it’s NOT seemly.

On 28 August 2012, the feast of the Assumption of the Mother of God, the chairman of the MP Department for External Church Relations, Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev of Volokolamsk, visiting the USA with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias, served the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in San Francisco CA. The First Hierarch of the ROCOR, Metropolitan Hiarion Kapral of New York and Eastern America, the former First Hierarch of the OCA, Metropolitan Jonas Paffhausen, Archbishop Kirill Dmitrieff of San Francisco (ROCOR), the Administrator of the MP Parishes in the USA, Archbishop Yustinian Ovchinnikov of Naro-Fominsk, Archbishop Benjamin Peterson of San Francisco and Western America (OCA), Vicar of the Diocese of San Francisco, Bishop Feodosy Sietliysky(ROCOR), and ROCOR and OCA clergymen served together with Metropolitan Hilarion at the Liturgy. The Russian Consul General in San Francisco V N Vinokourov attended the service. During the liturgy, Monk Tikhon Gayudinov was ordained a hierodeacon.

After the Prayer before the Ambo, Metropolitan Hilarion addressed the congregation:

We gather together today on the Great Feast of the Assumption of the Mother of God. Like the Apostles, who were transported to the tomb of the Mother of God on the clouds, we came on airplanes and cars, to gather here together to serve the Divine Liturgy and glorify the Most Pure Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, more honourable than the Cherubim and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim. We came from all over the world… from Russia and other European countries, from all over the Americas, from Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and other countries. The grace of the Holy Spirit led us here, we were led by a love of the Church of Christ, the love of our common Mother, the Mother of God, and the knowledge that we belong to the one Body, the Church, the cornerstone of which is Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Standing before the plashchanitsa of the Mother of God, firstly, we think about the meaning of our human life and our death. Nothing can bring greater comfort at the thought of the passing of our lives, and greater awareness of the meaning of death, than the plashchanitsa of the Mother of God. This isn’t a coffin, around which people gather to mourn for the dead and cry, on the temporal plane of this earth. In the plashchanitsa we contemplate the heavenly world and glorify the Most Holy Mother of God, whose death wasn’t the end, but an Assumption, and a transition to a better eternal life. We pray that our deaths won’t be a final end, but an Assumption and transition to eternal life, where each of us expect our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.

When we look at the icon of the Assumption of the Mother of God, we see her prostrate on her deathbed, but we also see standing next to her Our Lord Jesus Christ, who lovingly takes her soul into His most pure hands, in the form of a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes. So, death is a birth into a new life, a funeral shroud is swaddling clothes, and our last day of life on earth is our first day of life in eternity… a day that never ends, it’ll keep on forever. As we stand before the plashchanitsa, we’re aware that we weren’t created to live a short life and then die… we’re created for eternity, and our earthly existence is but a preparation for it. We’re aware that death is not a tragic and joyless event. Death is a transition to eternal life, and, when we die, we aren’t alone, but with Christ, but only if we lived with Christ in our everyday life, not on our own devices.

Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev awarded Archbishop Kirill of San Francisco the Order of St Sergius (II degree) in consideration of his assiduous work for the good of the Church and the 200th anniversary of Fort Ross. He also gave Archbishop Kirill a Panagia as a gift. Archbishop Kirill thanked Metropolitan Hilarion for the gift and the award. In turn, he awarded the Consul General Vinokourov and his wife the Orders of St John of San Francisco (II and III degree). After the service, the participants were invited to a celebratory meal.
