21 August 2012. Even Forbes Thinks That Todd Akin Should Quit… But He Won’t

Todd Akin “MD” (R)

Even John Baldoni at Forbes is critical of Todd Akin’s action in refusing to step aside for the good of the greater Republican ticket:

“I’m in this race to win!” With those words, Todd Akin, US Senate candidate for Missouri, struck fear into the hearts of Republicans, cheered Democrats, and insulted women everywhere. Akin’s refusal to quit the race was made as part of his apology for a previous comment that women who endure “legitimate rape” don’t get pregnant. Not only was his science wrong, his comments exhibited a patriarchal view of women’s reproductive rights. Akin also committed the first sin of insincerity… making the apology about himself, and not the people he’s offended.

Misogyny aside, Akin made another mistake… one that’s all too common in today’s “apologise and it will go away” culture. Akin has made himself the focus on his apology, not the millions of women he’d insulted. Akin also attempted to disavow his insult by claiming that he had used a poor choice of words. As Ben Franklin said, “Never ruin an apology with an excuse”. When you watch Akin apologise, you get the feeling that he cares more about his candidacy than he does about anything else. Americans like a fighter, but we also like a realist, one who can admit when he’s erred and make amends. Akins mouthed an apology, but his determination to stay in the senatorial race undermines his sincerity. …

Actions substantiate apologies and underscore sincerity.

This is why the present GOP is bad for the country. Akin not only fails to comprehend that he isn’t the centre of the Republican ticket, he truly fails to understand WHY his party wants him to step aside. Similarly, Mittens refuses to see how his adolescent secrecy harms his chances of election.

Firstly, there was Wafflin’ Willy refusing to match President Obama’s release of twelve years of tax returns to the public. Indeed, Willy demanded that his VP hopefuls release more tax information than he did. Willy doesn’t understand that his wilful and juvenile cover-up has cost him many votes… but, then again, he’s never had to “pay” for his “mistakes” before.

In like manner, Akin doesn’t begin to discern that his choice of words was downright evil. There’s no such thing as “legitimate rape”… indeed, I’ve never heard the term before. The GOP leadership asked him to step aside… the top Republican leadership of Missouri came forward to beg him to see that his pigheaded attitude was simply poisonous… but Akin refused to do his duty. Rather, he childishly stamped his foot and decided to stand for office, even without the support of the national Republican Party.

Is this what you want? A vote for Mittens or Akin is a vote for secrecy, ignorance, and high-handedness. Remember that when you mark your ballot in November…

A Note to Orthodox People:

Doesn’t Akin’s pigheadedness remind you of a certain bishop? Not only are their personalities similar, so are their political and social opinions. That’s why it’s fruitless to argue with the Monomuckos gang… they truly don’t see what’s wrong… and that’s sad.

Todd Akin’s “Legitimate Rape” Remark

______________________________

In the USA, a wave of public outrage erupted in response to the statement of Congressman Todd Akin on the issue of abortion. The Congressmen, who’s running as Republican candidate for the Senate, said women’s bodies were naturally able to prevent pregnancy in the case of “legitimate rape”. In an interview with KTVI-TV, Mr Akin, known for his opposition to abortion rights, was asked whether he would ban abortion if the pregnancy were the result of rape. He replied, “First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down, but let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something… I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, not attacking the child”.

The interview caused a torrent of criticism. On blogs and on Twitter, users expressed their indignation with the Congressman’s views, and their concern that he was a member of the House Committee on Science. Mr Akin’s rival, Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill, condemned his comments as offensive. A spokesman for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Mr Romney disagreed with this view and stressed, “A Romney-Ryan administration wouldn’t oppose abortion in instances of rape”. Later, in an e-mail statement, Todd Akin said that he had “misspoken” in his remarks, although he didn’t specify which points he meant.

Editor’s Note:

They’re not the Grand Olde Phonies for nothing… Willy can’t seem to be straight on anything. “Legitimate rape”… that’s indefensible. There’s a reason why rape victims are reluctant to come forward… and what saddens me the most is that all too many of those victimising the victims are so-called “Born-Again Christians”… now, that’s what I call EVIL.

22 August 2011. A Friend Sent This on to Me…

We’ll Never See This Again

Harry Truman was a different kind of President. He probably made as many, or more, important decisions regarding our nation’s history as any of the other 32 Presidents preceding him. However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House. The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in Independence MO. His wife had inherited the house from her mother and father and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there. When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a US Army pension reported to have been 13,507.72 USD (393,000 Roubles. 9,362 Euros. 8,183 UK Pounds) a year. Congress noted that he was paying for his stamps, and personally licking them, so, it granted him an “allowance” and, later, a retroactive pension of 25,000 USD (727,000 Roubles. 17,328 Euros. 15,145 UK Pounds) per year.

After President Eisenhower‘s inauguration, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There were no Secret Service agents following them. When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, “You don’t want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it’s not for sale”. Even later, on 6 May 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honour on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, “I don’t consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise”.

As president, he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food. Modern politicians have found a new level of success in cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth. Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale (e.g. Illinois). Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed, “My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whorehouse or a politician. To tell the truth, there’s hardly any difference!”

I say that we should dig him up and clone him!

Editor’s Note:

I’ll observe that two men came from Missouri… actually, one man and one worthless putz. Rush Limbaugh isn’t fit to be mentioned in the same sentence as Harry Truman. Rush’s supporters are lobotomised, violent, and mindless. Rush is a vacuous boob, yet, his supporters become physically violent if they’re countered with an intellectual argument. I’ll be blunt; virtually everything on his show is pure fabrication… it’s sheer fantasy, cacophony, and foolishness.

When you compare Harry and Rush, one thing becomes clear… Harry’s selfless service is laudable, Rush’s godless, grasping, and soulless greed isn’t. Harry Truman didn’t take what was his by right, Rush steals everything that’s not nailed down, and calls it “Free Enterprise” (it’s certainly “free”, for it costs him nothing, and it’s “enterprising”, for he’s quite assiduous in his gluttony and voracity). The sooner that we take Rush out, shoot him, and dump his carcass in the ocean, the sooner that the world can breathe a sigh of relief. He’s not simply a simpering shill for the oligarchs (he’s that, to be sure), but he’s a Göbbels… he has a hold upon his listeners in a very demonic and troubling way.

You can admire Harry (even if you don’t agree with him) or you can admire Rush Limbaugh. The two are mutually-exclusive… the first was a good (although flawed) man, the second is an evil charlatan who uses his talents in a demonic way to enrich himself and implant lies in his audience. I prefer Harry… what about you?
