The above image shows St Platon Russian Orthodox Seminary in Tenafly NJ sometime before 1920. I’d tell people that although lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place in nature, it does amongst people, as we too often refuse to learn from our elders’ mistakes. As Prince Otto von Bismarck put it:
You’re all idiots… you all think that you learn from your experiences; I prefer to learn from other people’s errors, then, I’ll avoid their mistakes myself.
The Iron Chancellor’s right… do ask questions about the Honesdale Loan and how its secured… do ask questions about the questionable “reduction” in assessments” passed at the recent Sobor in Seattle (it’s worded so vaguely that the OCA could go to court and claim that they’re not bound by it)… and do make sure that your parish’s property and bank accounts are safe from Syosset’s minions (including many priests… they’re not bad… they’re simply weak reeds). The Metropolia lost this prime property in a chi-chi neighbourhood due to dodgy loans and clueless bishops. That sounds much too much like today for comfort, doesn’t it? Remember, the Church lost about six hectares (@14.5 acres) of primo real estate the last time… what’ll they lose this time? After all, they probably “had” to borrow to pay Dickie Wood’s tab at the Vanil Restoran (Moscow’s notorious for its high prices)… I wonder what Alexander Lebedeff would say about THAT use of the “widow’s mite”… perspirin’ minds DO wanna know!
