Moscow Hosts 9th “Musical Kremlin” International Festival

The 9th “Musical Kremlin” International Festival kicked off in Moscow. The event is dedicated to the 65th birthday of the prominent Russian pianist Nikolai Petrov. Once, a British critic wrote about Mr Petrov in The Guardian as follows. “When I close my eyes, it seems to me that this piano concerto is being played with six hands and not two”. Petrov‘s repertoire is very comprehensive, comprising classical music, jazz, avant-garde, and modern piano pieces. He’s not only a famous soloist but he’s founded numerous music festivals, and Musical Kremlin is his brainchild as well. The festival opens on 14 April, the Maestro‘s birthday. He’ll perform with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra. It’s become a lovely tradition for him to perform on his birthday…

“The festival’s usually held in April, and, often, it coincides with my birthday. Sometimes, I deliberately organised concerts on this day in the Moscow Conservatory. I like being with my audience on this day. Music played in this historic hall always attracts people’s attention, thus, this helps a pianist to achieve his goals”.

“The festival’s idea is absolutely clear and consistent. We want people to learn more about young gifted musicians. We’re trying to help those young talents who were undeservingly forgotten after sustaining defeat at numerous musical competitions. This time, I invited the young Chinese pianist Wan Tsue to take part in the festival. I listened to his playing during the last year‘s Tchaikovsky Ccompetition, and although he wasn’t among the laureates, I think he’s a very promising pianist. I want our people to listen to him”.

The laureates of the previous 13th Tchaikovsky competition, pianist Miroslav Kultyshev and violinist Nikita Borisoglebsky, are also among the participants, together with musicians from France, Serbia, and the USA. A special jazz evening is included in the festival’s programme. The audience will also have a unique opportunity to listen to young Russian organist Konstantin Volostnov at the Armoury Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin.
