Minamisatsuma in Japan opened a beachside exhibition of about 80 sculptures of women who had the greatest impact on world history. They range from the ancient Egyptian queen Cleopatra to Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space. Russia is also represented by several other sculptures.

Valery Gergiev celebrates his 55th birthday with a charity gala concert in Moscow

Russian conductor Valery Gergiev celebrates his 55th birthday with a charity gala concert in Moscow. This event shall showcase performances by opera singers Anna Netrebko, Olga Borodina, and Vladimir Galuzin, violinist Vadim Repin, and althorn player Yuri Bashmet. Maestro Gergiev has, for twenty straight years, been the director of the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. In addition, Maestro Gergiev is a leading guest conductor in London and Rotterdam. He has launched many landmark events in culture and won awards from many different nations.

Russian singer to join the team of entertainers to open and perform at the Beijing Olympics

The Russian singer Vitas received an invitation to join the collection of stars that shall open and provide entertainment at the Beijing Olympics. He has sold millions of CDs in the People’s Republic of China.
