RF Gosduma Passes Law Banning Persons Previously Convicted of Paedophilia from Working with Children

If we continue the “chain of silence”, as the OCA and ROCOR apparatchiki wish us to, we are condemned to further instances of paedophilia, sexual assaults, and scandalous antics by clergy… break the chain NOW… speak up! Christ demands that of us!

______________________________

On Wednesday, the RF Gosduma passed, on its second reading, a presidential bill establishing a prohibition for those who have or had a criminal record of prosecution for crimes against sexual inviolability of juveniles on working with children. The bill supplements the Labour Code with a new article, according to which those who have or had a record of prosecution (except for those whose prosecution was terminated due to acquittal) for crimes against sexual inviolability and sexual freedom of a person, murder, intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, and torture, if they were committed against minors and juveniles, as well as the involvement of a minor in the commission of a crime, for the production and circulation of materials or objects with pornographic images of minors, are forbidden to engage in activities in the fields of education, training, youth development, the organisation of their recreation and rehabilitation, health care, and social services, and work in the area of youth sport, culture, and art. In addition, the law provides that a person who works in these areas is obliged, before executing an employment contract with an employer, to bring a certificate issued by the bodies of internal affairs on their criminal record, and whether they had faced prosecution for these crimes, or had the criminal prosecution terminated due to acquittal. On its second reading, the bill was amended, giving an employer the right to terminate previously signed employment contracts that do not meet the rules of the new law. The bill also amends the law “On state registration of legal entities and individual entrepreneurs”. According to the bill, no one is allowed to receive state registration as a private entrepreneur in a field working with children who was convicted or prosecuted under these articles of the Criminal Code.

“Unfortunately, there are many examples where people convicted for sexual violence against children, having served a prison term, then, returned to work in schools as teachers and coaches. Introduction of a ban on the employment of paedophiles in these professions will help to protect children”, Grigori Balykhin, the chairman of the Gosduma Education Committee, a member of the United Russia faction, told reporters on Wednesday, commenting on the bill. According to statistics, in 2000, there were over 40,000 crimes against minors, and, in 2009, more than 100,000. In this case, according to experts, up to 97 percent of cases of child abuse are not recorded and do not fall into the statistics, RIA-Novosti reported. President Dmitri Medvedev, in his letter the Federal Assembly on 30 November, drew attention to the problem of paedophilia. He said that we needed to “close access once and for all to educational and training institutions to those who have been convicted of any violent crime or abused children or involved children and adolescents in criminal activity”.

Editor’s Note:

One of the main motivators behind this action is the recent child abuse scandal at the St Andrei Bogolyubsky Convent in Vladimir Oblast. I have often said that the leadership of the Church in the homelands is not perfect… the only reason that they appear better is that there’s a good deal of press and government oversight. The Gosduma is ensuring that those who were involved in the Vladimir scandal never hurt another child.

The Church here lacks that, and it shows… look at the Storheim case… look at Feodosy Lazor… look at Samuel Greene… look at Gleb Podmoshensky. People such as Mark Stokoe, Eric Tosi, Alexander Lebedeff, and George Larin have banded together to cover up the past. Interesting, ain’t it? These guys were bitter foes in the old “Church War”… but now they’re bosom buddies… for they know that if the OCA goes down, it will take the “old” ROCOR down with it.

Alexander Lebedeff, in particular, through his public statements, is positively terrified that “old ghosts” from the Metropoulos, Greene, and Podmoshensky scandals will rise up again to beggar the present ROCOR apparat. That’s the only thing that logically explains his nasty attacks on Kristi Koumentakos. Why didn’t Mr Lebedeff attack the use of 250,000 dollars as payola to Bobby K by the OCA? THAT was OK… THAT was kosher… THAT was a LEGITIMATE use of the “widow’s mite”.

I wish that the press and government would subject the OCA and ROCOR to the same scrutiny as the MP receives from the Russian press and state authorities. However, that shall not happen… we’re too minor a body on these shores. The rot subsists within all the present structures of the Russian diaspora, and we shall only root it out by creating a new united Russian Orthodox body… as an integral part of our Mother Church in Moscow.

By their fruits, ye shall know them…

Yes… “by their fruits”… in more sense than one, kids… Panteleimon Metropoulos… Feodosy Lazor… Samuel Greene… Isidore Brittain… Gleb Podmoshensky… Seraphim Storheim… and that list isn’t exhaustive. However, they’re not the worst… coverup artists such as Alexander Lebedeff and John Erickson are the worst… never forget Eric Iliff! A Russian priest friend of mine was deeply shocked by the Iliff case… but the OCA and ROCOR apparatchiki just shrug it off. We must forget it and “move on”… FOR THE GOOD OF THE CHURCH, they say.

That’s why we should never forget Eric and his sacrifice, and not rest until those who are trying to coverup the facts of his death are out of power. God expects that of us.

Church Destroyed In 9/11 Attack Suing Port Authority

Officials of St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, the only church to be destroyed in the 9/11 Twin Towers attack, announced they are suing the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for allegedly reneging on a promise to rebuild the house of worship. The two sides had negotiated for years on a deal that would allow the church to be rebuilt just south of Ground Zero, in exchange for financial help. In March 2009, however, talks broke down and the Port Authority left the negotiating table for good. The claim states that the agency reportedly failed to act according to a “binding preliminary agreement”. A day after the suit was filed, the Port Authority published an outline of a new “7.2 billion dollar (224.013 billion Roubles 5.433 billion Euros 4.557 billion UK Pounds) budget for 2011 that calls for a third consecutive year of zero growth in operating expenses and reduces headcount by 200 positions to the lowest level in 40 years”. The church also alleges that the Port Authority dug up the site where St Nicholas used to stand in order to build an underground vehicle security centre. The Port Authority has not responded to the suit.

Editor’s Note:

I only have one question to ask… where are such posturing loudmouths as Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Joe Miller, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, or Rand Paul? They’re NOT standing tall for our Greek Orthodox co-religionists! They’re not helping to see that our Orthodox parish church is rebuilt. It doesn’t suit their Mammon-worshipping purposes, you see… it doesn’t put any money in their pockets.

THEY’RE SILENT!

After all the noise over the so-called mosque from the Tea Party scummers, their silence over our lost Orthodox parish church is telling. They don’t give a damn for us, or for our religion… what more do you need? If you support such filth, you not only support an ideology (rightly) condemned by the leaders of our Faith, you willingly support those who refuse to take up the cause of one of our Orthodox parishes.

Christ’s Church has nothing in common with the so-called Tea Party or with the Republican Party. If you support such evil, you place yourself outside of the Church’s ambit. Remember what His Holiness Patriarch Kirill said:

The modern economy is built largely on fraud; it creates money out of thin air. [Money is] a token of human labour and of our God-given resources, such as coal, ore, and oil, along with our intelligence, physical labour, culture, and spirituality. [However,] every company produces its own money in the form of shares, which is passed onto the secondary market, becoming not just simple securities; they are traded and used as items of speculation. If these mere phantasms earn billions, not even backed by labour or real capital, then, how can such an economy exist? Who is going to pay for all of this? Why, the simple worker [is going to], who produces the value behind all of this bubble. [We need] a fair economic system where money and capital are equivalent and are the expression of real work.

THIS is what the leading hierarch of our Church teaches… if you dare to support such evil fantasies as the Tea Party, know that you place yourself in direct opposition to him and all right-minded Orthodox Christians. Our Lord Christ was not crucified for being a shill for the “respectable” and the “comfortable” of this world… I seem to recall that He opposed such.

Russians NEVER Give Up!

Editor’s Foreword:

Today, I’m playing internet “Chopsticks”… that is, I’m not going in for the usual researched piece… my typical post is only made after I check out several sources, and I normally choose the most succinct one to use. That is, today, everything is either light in nature or single-sourced. Here’s something to smile about… but do bear in mind, Russians NEVER give up (and do forgive me for the bad pun in the sentence, please)!

This is a good illustration of the Russian national character. We don’t give up easily (unlike crybaby suburbanite Americans), and we use it up, make it last, and keep it until it wears out. If it ain’t broke, we don’t fix it; if it’s broken, we don’t toss it unless it’s totally knackered. This illustrates a common error of konvertsy… you see, we Russians are “artful dodgers” of the highest degree. That’s to say, lip-service is paid to a punctilious observance of the rules, yet, every Russian knows that there’s a way around virtually everything. For instance, the number of people actually “excommunicated” by the Russian Church over the last century is very small indeed… there may be less than ten… it’s normally only deployed against those who set up “opposition churches” (don’t listen to sorts like Stokoe who talk of “automatic excommunication”… that rubbish was one of Schmemann’s trademark heresies). That is, Russians are rather pragmatic sorts, in the end. We’re not “chapter-and-verse” quoters… if we can fix it with baling wire, some lath, and duct tape, we’ll say Slava Bogu and get on with life. Russians set up the samogon-apparat whenever Prohibition is decreed (which happens about once a generation in Russian history)… after all, “the tsar is far away”. You can have the compassionate and pragmatic Russian way, or, you can have the tight-arsed and judgemental konvertsy way… I seem to think that most of you would prefer the former.

SPC against Local Serbs Voting in Kosovo Elections

The Proud Father… Newborn Kosovo, Democratic Iraq, and Peaceful Afghanistan…

______________________________

The Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) stated that the conditions that would allow the Serbian population to participate in the Kosovo elections weren’t met.

“It’s obvious that there are no normal conditions allowing [Serbian] participation in the mentioned elections”, according to an announcement from the SPC, in comments on the upcoming election in the province, which is organised by the Albanian authorities in Kosovo. In explanation, the SPC said, “This is a parliament of the self-proclaimed independent state of Kosovo, which has not made provision for or achieved the return of a large number of persecuted [Serbs] to Kosovo to this day; we should bring to mind the violent systematic robbery of movable and immovable property [of Serbs] in Kosovo”. The announcement adds that another reason why Serbs cannot participate in the elections on 12 December is the lack of a law on denationalisation of seized [Serbian] church and other property and its restitution [to its proper owners]. The SPC Holy Synod noted, “The parliamentary system in Kosovo sanctions Albanian predominance”, at the expense of the rights of the Serbian population of the province.
