13 December 2010. Only in Russia… “Walrus” Competition in Novosibirsk

BRRR! It’s -30 (-22 F) in Novosibirsk and these nuts are having an OUTDOOR swimming competition. In Russia, what we call “polar bears” in the USA are called “walruses”. That is, they’re lovable crazies who jump into lakes, strut about the beach in swimwear, and run about doing other cold-weather frolics.

I’ll pass, thank you very much. I’ll pass you some hot tea with a slug o’ brandy in it, OK?
