A friend sent me the following:
If you would just as soon have everyone “cease and desist” with the Forum back-and-forth that concerns you… even if sympathetic… you’d say so, wouldn’t you?
I agree emphatically and completely. Please, stop discussing my private life and doings. It isn’t proper for decent Christian people to do such. That’s why Raymond Velencia is EVIL. That’s why Alexei Karlgut is EVIL. That’s why Piggy Iggy Burdikoff is EVIL. The Church protects our privacy… it’s why confession is private, kids. We’ve got to get out of the habit of thinking that we can drag private people’s lives into the public spotlight. For instance, I don’t GOOGLE anyone, ever. That’s your private and confidential information… for me to access that is to rape you, full stop. If you’ve said dumb things on the ‘net… join the club, so have I. Unfortunately, dumb things said on the ‘net have a half-life longer than U-238. You’ll note that I NEVER say, “Look at this dumb thing that Harry Coin posted on the Orthodox Forum two years ago”. I disagree with Harry Coin, I think that he’s chock fulla beans on more than one topic, but I don’t have the right to muck about in his private life. If I demand respect for my privacy, I must extend reciprocity, or I’m worse than a Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, or Rebecca Mansour.
Before we can act as Christians, we must learn decency… otherwise, we all know what the Apostle said concerning brazen gongs. We can disagree… yes. We can be emphatic… yes. We can have an old style Real Orthodox donnybrook with no holds barred… yes. However, there’s a line that can’t be crossed… let’s keep that in mind.
I’m going to work and walk away from all this until 17.30 EST… I want to see an e-mail in my inbox from one of my correspondents saying that the thread is terminated.
God have mercy on us all.
