Boehner Refuses to Stand Tall for the Truth… Coddles Birthers and Unibrow Teabaggers

House Speaker John Boehner says Americans have a right to think what they want to think, even when they’re wrong about President Barack Obama’s citizenship and his religion. Some people believe that Obama, a native of Hawaii, was actually born outside the US, or, that he isn’t in some other way a natural-born citizen eligible to be president. There’s also a persistent belief among some that Obama, a Christian, is actually a Muslim. When the host of NBC’s Meet the Press asked Boehner whether he, as speaker of the House, had a responsibility to “stand up to that kind of ignorance”, Boehner told David Gregory, “It’s not my job to tell the American people what to think. Our job in Washington is to listen to the American people. Having said that, the state of Hawaii said that he was born there. That’s good enough for me. The president says he’s a Christian. I accept him at his word”. He later called those “the facts” of Obama’s background. Gregory asked, “But, that kind of ignorance, about whether he’s a Muslim, doesn’t concern you?” “The American people have the right to think what they want to think, I can’t… it’s not my job to tell them”, Boehner replied. Boehner denied that he’s willing to let those misperceptions remain because they weaken and demonise Obama [in the eyes of Republican supporters].

Editor’s Note:

What specious, vacuous, and utterly untruthful rubbish. “The American people have the right to think what they want to think”… izzat so, Mr Boehner? Would you say that if the southern white supporters of the GOP wanted to bring back segregation, Mr Boehner? Would you be so blasé about it all, sir? This tells you, in a blunt and direct manner, that the truth doesn’t matter to John Boehner… not one little bit. If the truth were important to him, he’d stand tall, confront the birthers and baggers, and force them to confront reality. He’d fight them with all his powers. No… they’re the Republican base, so, he’s going to leave them alone. That’s the action of a nihilist, for whom the truth means nothing… ugly, isn’t it? Reflect well on this… John Boehner makes a loud and demonstrative show of his Catholic beliefs. Mr Boehner, isn’t the truth important to Catholics? It is, for the Catholics that I know… then, that must mean that you’re a bad Catholic, sir. After all, doesn’t your pope call for universal access to healthcare for all as a right? Your smarmy hypocrisy sickens me to no end, Mr Boehner.

Boehner is caught in a vise. However, it’s of his own devising… he tightened the screws himself. “It’s not my job to tell them”… then, he should get out of politics if he feels that way, truly. Politics is the art of telling people what to think, making them believe that it was their own idea all along. Boehner made himself look like a brain-dead boob with his remarks. Did he have a big night the evening before; was he nursing a big head? Pickles are good for a hangover, John… they’re the old Russian remedy…

St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Sues over World Trade Center Rebuilding Project

On Monday, the Greek Orthodox church damaged in the 11 September 2001 attacks on New York said it sued local authorities on grounds they seized its land and prevented it from rebuilding. Should St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church prevail in court, it could send authorities back to the drawing board in a World Trade Center rebuilding project already years behind schedule due to clashes over design, security, and control. The lawsuit centres on land the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is using for a vast underground parking garage that is part of the project involving five skyscrapers, a mass transit hub, and a memorial. “This case arises out of the arrogance, bad faith, and fraudulent conduct of the Port Authority, as agent for all of the agencies, in preventing St Nicholas from rebuilding its church at Ground Zero after it was crushed by a falling tower”, the Hellenic Eastern Orthodox Church of Saint Nicholas and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America said in the complaint.

The complaint, brought in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, charged that the Port Authority in March 2009 “disavowed” a 2008 agreement to let the church rebuild at 130 Liberty Street, next to its original location at 155 Cedar Street, and pay it 20 million USD (585.789 million Roubles 14.786 million Euros 12.448 million UK Pounds). The Port Authority, in a statement, said the church had sought more than the 2008 agreement granted it, and the agency “had to make a practical decision to move on or risk further delaying the entire World Trade Center project. The Orthodox Church continues to have the right to build a church on their original site”, the statement said. The church also sued the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. and the Empire State Development Corp in connection with the issue.

St Nicholas Greek Orthodox church sued the public agency that owned the World Trade Center on Monday, saying the agency reneged on a deal to rebuild a church that was destroyed in the 11 September 2001 attacks. The church says the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey broke a 2008 promise to rebuild St Nicholas Church at a new location down the block from its old site. It also says the Port Authority started excavating church property without permission as part of the new business and transportation complex at Ground Zero. “This is not about money, this is about their commitment to rebuild the only house of worship destroyed at Ground Zero”, church spokesman Mark Arey said. The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America filed its lawsuit against the Port Authority in a US district court in Manhattan.

St Nicholas Church was built in 1916 and it was crushed when the World Trade Center towers collapsed. As part of the neighbourhood’s reconstruction, the Port Authority proposed a swap of the church property for a piece of land down the street so that the agency could build a centre for screening vehicles. In exchange, the agency would give the church millions of dollars to build a bigger church. The church says the two sides had mostly agreed on the terms when the Port Authority abruptly pulled out of talks in 2009. The Port Authority claims the church was demanding too much money. “After eight months of negotiations in which the demands of the Orthodox Church continued to increase over and above what was originally agreed to in 2008, the Port Authority had to make a practical decision to move on or risk further delaying the entire World Trade Center project”, the agency said in a written statement. The Port Authority said it offered 20 million USD (585.789 million Roubles 14.786 million Euros 12.448 million UK Pounds) of financing, and as much as 40 million USD (1.152 billion Roubles 29.572 million Euros 24.896 million UK Pounds) more to cover extra costs related to the construction of a Port Authority parking lot under the church. It claims the church wanted a building six times bigger than its original one. The church said that was only fair because it was giving up the valuable “air rights” over its original site. Air rights allow builders to put skyscrapers on small pieces of land. In addition, about one-third of the new church would have been a memorial area for people of all faiths to gather, Arey said.

Editor’s Note:

Where are all the loudmouthed Republican media nabobs? Rush Limboob, Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity are all missing in action. They were quick to scream about a notional mosque, but none of them is standing tall for an actual parish being bullied by the PA. Where are Boehner, McConnell, and all the other ranting teabaggers? They’re on French leave, too, nowhere to be found. They scream about nonexistent death panels (but don’t complain about existing GOP death panels for Medicaid patients in KKK Arizona), but can’t be bothered to help a small parish literally crushed by 9/11. What’s the problem? Are they afraid of browning off their unibrow supporters (who believe that President Obama is a Muslim and that he was born abroad)? Where are all the OCA fanatics (there was nothing on oca.org in support of the lawsuit… is Fathausen waiting to see what way the wind blows?)? None of these posturing poseurs was there when the chips were down for the GOA and St Nicholas parish.

Draw your own conclusions… I’d say that the Republican Party and the OCA aren’t true friends of the GOA… they weren’t there when their presence was called for. It tells you volumes about those two organisations, doesn’t it?

Blunder Concelebrates with Fathausen in Dallas… Kisses Up to Teabaggers at Sectarian Conventicle Too

Dontcha just LOVE these low-res images? Someone at patriarchia.ru is telling us something… however, the braying pseudo-intellectual charlatans and squalling konvertsy brats are still gonna think that the Wonder’s the slickest thing since Billy Graham (or John XXIII). Like calls unto like, wot? There’s none so blind as those who WILL not to see…

Bear in mind as you read this that it’s rubbishy twaddle from the Blunder’s Fib Factory in Bolshaya Ordynka… it’s not from the patriarchal press service. Hold your nose… you can do it… it’s the price you pay to stay informed. Know thy enemy…

On 12 February 2011, Archbishop Jonas Paffhausen of Washington and Metropolitan of all America and Canada served a Vigil at St Seraphim Cathedral in downtown Dallas TX. Amongst the worshipers, Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev of Volokolamsk, the Chairman of the MP DECR, prayed at the service (За богослужением молился митрополит Волоколамский Иларион). Many believers from Dallas and other cities in Texas gathered in the church to greet Metropolitan Hilarion. After the service, Metropolitan Jonas formally welcomed his distinguished guest. He drew attention to the special relationship that Metropolitan Hilarion had with the OCA, pointing up that Vladyki Hilarion had served six years at the representational church of the OCA in Moscow. Then, Metropolitan Hilarion addressed the congregation, speaking about the missionary vocation of Orthodox Christians on the American continent (в котором напомнил о миссионерском призвании православных христиан на американском континенте). In memory of their joint prayer (В память о совместной молитве), Vladyki Hilarion gave St Seraphim Cathedral a copy of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God with a commemorative inscription. Then, he spoke with retired Archbishop Dmitri Royster, who for many years headed the OCA Diocese of Dallas and all the South. The next morning, 13 February, the Sunday of the Publican and Pharisee, Metropolitan Hilarion concelebrated Divine Liturgy with Metropolitan Jonas at the cathedral. Other OCA clergy also served, along with Fr Igor Yakimchuk, the MP DECR secretary for Inter-Orthodox Relations and Hierodeacon Ivan Kopeikin, the Assistant Chairman of the MP DECR. At the conclusion of the Liturgy, Metropolitan Hilarion went to the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, where he spoke to members of the Presbyterian, Orthodox, and Catholic communities in Texas. More than 5,000 people listened to the speech of Vladyki Hilarion {such is the claim, anyway… the anonymous author gave no proof… caveat lector: editor}. At the conclusion of his speech, Bishop presented an icon of the Saviour as a gift to Highland Park community.

Editor’s Afterword:

There’s a reason why I gave you some of the original Russian in brackets… the wording is a bit out of the ordinary. The Blunder “prayed” at the service, he didn’t “serve”… he spoke of “the missionary vocation of Orthodox Christians on the American continent”, not “the missionary vocation of the OCA”. That’s interesting! The Wonder is the classic apparatchik… he has no fixed beliefs, “a man whose allegiance is fixed by expedience”. This was a Jabberwockian utterance… but do note that the Blunder didn’t say outright that the OCA has the missionary vocation to witness to the American continent. If Fathausen was looking for some sign of unconditional support from the Centre (from the Blunder’s faction, at least), he was disappointed.

The Highland Park speech was pure GIGO… it was ecumenical hot air of the dreariest sort. Of course, the Americans misunderstood him, for he (was it unconscious or was it deliberate?) used “liberal” in its European sense (that is, extreme anti-state individualism as embodied by the US Republican Party and Sectarian “religion”)… little did they realise that his attacks on “liberalism” were attacks on the very basis of their Sectarian/laissez faire creed! The Blunder is ambitious to a fault… but that doesn’t mean that he’s stupid or crude (he’s no Pat Robertson, that’s for sure). Did he make his speech knowing that Europeans would receive it one way, and Americans would misunderstand it in another way (because of distortions in the American dialect)? That’s devious enough to fit the Wonder’s personality, isn’t it? I’ll betcha that all the usual cast of suspects were there for HA’s speech… Dreher, Matthewes-Green, Honeycutt, Fester, and Mattingly… was Bobby there, too? Perspirin’ minds wanna know!

Things are NEVER what they seem at first glance in American Orthodoxy. It’s definitely NOT boring covering this beat, I guarantee (say that with a Cajun lilt… shades of Justin Wilson)!
