Editor’s Note:

This should refute all the crank and crook dezinformatsiya circulated by the Neoliberal neocons and teabaggers. Know this… the “New Age” in the USSR didn’t begin in August 1991 with the failure of the hardliners’ coup… it began in 1985 with Perestroika. Don’t forget… in 1991, there weren’t any political prisoners left in the GULag. Many Russians now believe that Yeltsin was the tool of the West… the more time goes on, I tend to agree with that. The USSR is going to rise again… perhaps, under a new name, but it’ll be committed to a social system fundamentally opposed to the smarmy preaching and hypocritical slavery of Neoliberal “Free” Market Capitalism. The Russian people haven’t forgotten the Nasty Nineties… nor have any of the other Soviet nationalities (except for the Neo-Nazi Balts and Galicians). America is in for a rude awakening (especially the Republican Corporatist Buccaneers)…

In 2010, Russian consumers were most dissatisfied with the quality of food and household goods, communal housing services, and travel services, according to the Общественный контроль (Social Control) consumer protection data company (OZPP). World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated annually on 15 March. On this day, in 1961, John F Kennedy delivered a speech in the US Congress in which he first described the concept of a “consumer” and listed the six main consumer rights:

  1. the right to information
  2. the right to security
  3. the right to choose
  4. the right to be heard
  5. the right to redress
  6. the right to consumer education

The World Organisation of Consumers Unions (Consumer International – CI) supplemented this list with two more consumer rights:

  1. the right to basic needs
  2. the right to a healthy environment

Since 1983, this day is held under the auspices of the United Nations. In Russia, it’s been celebrated every year since 1994. Russia, like many other states, has officially acknowledged that producers and providers must respect consumer rights.

Editor’s Note:

You didn’t hear much about this day in the USA, did you? Rush Limboob, Lil’ Miz Sarah, Glenn Beck, Newt Gingrich, Pat Robertson, and Dropout Scott Walker didn’t mark it at all… it’s because they believe that the people have no rights. Only the oligarchs have rights… everybody else gets the sloppy seconds, and “you’d better be happy with that, ‘cause that’s all that you’re getting”.

“Birds of a feather flock together”… let’s see, JP loves the heartless neocons and grasping teabaggers… I know what that tells me… what about you?

Sergei Yolkin’s World: Molluscs Monitor the Water

Molluscs Monitor the Water

Molluscs used to monitor drinking water quality in the reservoir of the Artyom waterworks in Primorye Krai haven’t indicated a raised level of background radiation, a spokesman for Primvodokanal said. A 9.0 magnitude earthquake occurred off the northeast coast of Japan on 11 March. Starting from this date, there were explosions at the first, third, and second reactor units at the NPP Fukushima-1, as well as an explosion and fire at the fourth reactor. According to the IAEA, following a fire in the fourth block and an explosion of accumulated hydrogen, radiation leaked into the atmosphere. A column of white smoke rose over the plant for a few hours after the incident. In addition, there was a release of steam from the second unit. If the level of radiation in the reservoir’s water exceeds the limits set for safety, the molluscs will change due to reaction with heavy metal ions.

Sergei Yolkin’s World: Allergy

Allergy

A study done by British researchers from the University of Nottingham identified a cell component that plays a key role in triggering allergic responses to allergens in the air. They found it in house dust mites on the skin of cats, insciences.org reported. The discovery furthers our understanding of how the body’s immune system identifies and reacts to allergens, which could pave the way to developing new ways of treating allergies. In response to external stimuli, the immune system produces an increased amount of specific chemicals (including histamine), which become the cause of inflammatory responses, usually accompanied by sneezing, catarrh (runny nose), difficulty breathing, and other symptoms. “A better understanding of how the interaction between allergens and the immune system leads to an allergy is vital if we’re to develop more effective and efficient treatments for this debilitating condition”, Dr Amir Ghaem-Maghami said.
