28 August 2011. A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words. The Hurricane, The Tree, and the Kiot… Guess Who Won?

Hurricane Irene wasn’t as powerful as many in the Chicken Little media feared, but it still packed a punch… it tore down trees and power lines and caused (and shall cause) a great deal of flooding in the Northeast. To the upper left of the image, you can see a very large collapsed tree. There’s also a kiot (Orthodox shrine) in the vicinity. No cars were hit, nor was the kiot damaged… God DOES look out for His own…

28 August 2011. Mark Your Calendars: Special Exhibition to Come to Holy Trinity Parish (ROCOR) in Toronto ON in April-May 2012 from “Light of the World” (Свет Миру) International Orthodox Art Exhibition… Also Show in Cannes in March 2012

Opening of a Свет Миру show in Moscow… the bishop in the picture is Archbishop Mark Golovkov of Yegorevsk (1964- ), Patriarch Kirill‘s TRUE advisor on external relations (I’ll bet that he’ll be the next patriarch).

I don’t have much detail on this. The information came from a source in the Moscow art world. Sometime in April or May of next year (that is, about 8 months from now), Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church (ROCOR) in Toronto ON CANADA will host a special and limited presentation from “Light of the World” (Свет Миру: Svet Miru) International Orthodox Art Exhibition. The RF Ministry of Culture and the MP approve of this group, and it has the hearty backing of Vladimir Vladimirovich. My source had no specifics… I checked the Свет Миру website; they had none either, only a bare acknowledgement of the planned event. Therefore, if you’re in the Northeastern USA or Eastern Canada, mark your calendars! This looks like a “keeper”. I’m going to be “pasting” this to the top of my page to keep it “visible”. This event deserves all the publicity that it can get.

There’s a wrinkle in all of this. I wondered why part of the exhibition wasn’t going to be at Christ the Saviour Russian Orthodox Church on Manning Avenue, as well… then, it hit me… it’s probably fallout from the present imbroglio in the OCA. That’s sad… the Manning Ave parish is older (1915) than the Henry Street ROCOR parish (1947), and the late Grand Princess Olga Aleksandrovna had ties to this parish (St John Maksimovich attended her funeral). This tells us that it’s high time to resolve the disunity in Russian Orthodoxy in the diaspora. There’s no need of THREE Russian Orthodox dioceses covering the same territory. It’s time to go back home, we gotta cut out all the fun n’ games… God willing, maybe, before the exhibition begins? Is that too much to ask, dear Lord?

The exhibition in Cannes (Département des Alpes-Maritimes. Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur) FRANCE will run from 12 to 24 March 2012 at the Church of the Archangel Michael. At present, there’s no further detail on the event.

I must say that it’s PLEASANT to have “good news” to report to you…
