A friend sent me this. I’ll bet ya that it’s MUCH cheaper to educate a seminarian at St Tikhon’s than at St Vlad’s. Therefore, if the OCA remains a stand-alone (which I hope it doesn’t, to speak frankly), it must cut costs in any way that it can. The New York CMSA is much too expensive for the OCA to do business in, as it’s only 40 percent of its size in 1965. Ergo, the Chancery and SVS should be shut down as rapidly as possible, and everything moved to St Tikhon’s, which would be a combined monastery/church HQ on the lines of the Danilovsky Monastery in Moscow. As for konvertsy gassing about this or that canon… put a sock in it! The Patriarch of Antioch lives in Damascus, and I dare any of you jumped-up fraudulent pipsqueaks to call it “uncanonical” (those who call themselves “Reader” and Subdeacon” should especially keep their silence). Such arguments are farcical and ludicrous. As Fr Alexander Lebedeff said back in the ’80s, “They don’t know an ecclesiastical court from a tennis court”.
There… here’s a meaningful proposal, and I didn’t take all day to put it out there. The secular faculty members could live in Clarks Summit PA (that’s where the local secular professors live, they’d be in good company) and the Metropolitan could live at the monastery… as did saintly Metropoltian Laurus Škurla. If it was good for Vladyki Laurus, it’s good enough for anyone else. Besides… make sure that the Metropolitan is on the dish-washing list… Vladyki Laurus was, and it didn’t hurt him. It’s all quite canonical, too.
We either scale things down to what we can afford or we won’t be around much longer… it’s quite that simple. Baba and Dede would approve…
