18 November is the birthday of one of the most beloved kids’ favourites… Ded Moroz (Grandpa Frost).

No one really knows how old the winter magician is, but we do know that he’s more than 2,000-years-old.

A few years ago, a kid’s contest came up with Dede’s birthday as 18 November, as that’s approximately the actual start of winter at his headquarters in Veliki Ustyug.

Every year, more than a thousand kids from all over Russia come to bring birthday greetings to Ded Moroz in Veliki Ustyug.

On his birthday, Dede’s house becomes a magical playground where a fabulous show involving all our favourite fairy tale heroes unfolds.

Birthday greetings to Dede come from all of his numerous relatives… Santa Claus from Finland, Chishaan, the Grandpa Frost of Yakutia, Pakkajne from Karelia, Mikulaš the Winter Tale-Spinner from Czechia, Snegurochka from Kostroma, as well as official delegations from Vologda, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, and many other cities.
