It cries to heaven for vengeance and righting… God willing, let it happen without bloodshed, if at all possible… nevertheless, let it happen.
Yes, I’m my brother’s keeper. I’m under a moral obligation to him that’s inspired, not by any maudlin sentimentality, but by the higher duty I owe to myself. What would you think of me if I were capable of seating myself at a table and gorging myself with food and saw about me the children of my fellow beings starving to death?
We’ve all met the sorts who tell us that all we need to do is to be “thankful”, “obedient”, and “trusting”… all that’s gotten us is perpetual warfare in foreign parts since the fall of the USSR (Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq again, and Libya… what’s next?) and a third of all Americans under the poverty line or too near it for comfort. I can’t do it any more. We don’t need hellishly-expensive foreign wars and we don’t need a rapacious “élite” that refuses to shoulder any of the burdens of society, yet it takes most of the benefits. We need peace and we need social justice. It’s not idle moonshine… shall we pay the cost, though? We’ll either accept economic degradation and the “leftover” scraps that the “conservatives” throw us or we’ll change the present system. I hope that it wouldn’t be violent. However, it’s “October 1916”, and there’s either going to be some change to the post-1991 order, or it’s going to blow.
I can’t be “thankful” this Thanksgiving… it’s dry as dust. Ponder the quotation at the head of this post… perhaps, you’ll understand why St Aleksei Toth blessed his people to join the Wobblies, the IWW. Think on what you should do… simple justice demands it. I can’t say, “Happy Thanksgiving“… there’s too much sorrow this year…
