Read this. Well, well, well… I thought that Fathausen was undergoing “evaluation” at a DC Shrink Tank run by the RCs. Surprise! He’s done EXACTLY what he did after Santa Fe, kids. However, do note that oca.org didn’t post ANYTHING about his upcoming Dixie Fry in Texas (or about the results of his “evaluation” either). One wonders why.

As for Lil’ Mizz Ginny and her incompetence, normal journalistic practise is to post news of a public event six weeks in advance on the main official site in a conspicuous location to ensure maximal participation. Then, four weeks prior to the event, one posts a reminder to get reservations in before the deadline. After that, weekly reminders one posts teasers on the third, second, and first weeks before the event. Finally, in the final week, you post snippets about the upcoming speakers and what they intend to speak about, with the appropriate links. All of this proves that Ginny Nieuwsma never set foot in a journalism class… she’s just a fatuous poseur, she’s on staff because she posts what’s handed to her, nothing more. What can you think of a group that refuses to publicise the upcoming events of its “First Hierarch” (and I use the term quite loosely, kids)? Trust me, His Nibs has his staff publicise all of his major doings, and all of his out-of-town jaunts receive advance notice.

This smells like one of those Inside the Beltway yawners. Human Rights and Religious Freedom Reception! What an ironic title, as the sponsors of this party believe in bombing anyone who disagrees with them… save for those strong enough to strike back (or those with reliable Russian and Chinese backing). Indeed, the presence of the so-called Congressional International Religious Freedom Caucus proves that it had a rightwing slant, as that group is reliably Radical Right in its stance (one of its founders was Rick Santorum… the biggest poseur and loser who ever served in either House of Congress). It’s nothing to get riled about; neither Fathausen nor Jillions were at the head table, as was obvious from the VERY low-res image posted with the article (as you saw above).

However, I’d warn His Holiness that Fathausen’s a liar who tells people what they want to hear. I’m told on good authority that the Centre’s policy is to let the OCA implode, and not precipitate it by withdrawing the Tomos. Fathausen’s dumber than dirt… but Lyonyo isn’t. Lyonyo would be “out of a job” if the OCA went the way of all flesh. Therefore, he’s searching for a CYA bolthole. I believe that he’s getting ready to stab the Centre in the back by jumping to the EP. Yes… the OCA would give up its autocephaly… but Lyonyo would have his “position” intact. Also, do note the recent trip by Hilarion Kapral to Rue Daru. Are the ROCOR First Families thinking of jumping too? I’d advise His Nibs not to trust anyone in the OCA/ROCOR First Families, and especially not to trust their ally at the Centre, the Blunder.

Up to now, the Centre has followed a policy of not taking back the Tomos, as that would entail “losing face” to Bart in the Great Game. I’d say that it’s time to revisit that decision and change course. Lyonyo’s scared for his position, as is Behr. Both have ties to the EP that are stronger than their ties to the Centre are. They’d have NO hesitation in screwing His Nibs. In that case, Bart WOULD have the last laugh. I’d say to His Nibs, “Your Holiness, rescind the Tomos NOW. If you don’t, Lyonyo will knife you in the back; Bart will make you look like a fool in front of the entire Orthodox world. If you do NOT rescind the Tomos immediately, I’d suggest that you buy a VERY large jar of Vaseline… you’re going to need it”.

Oh, yes, Lil’ Mizz Ginny… normal practise on an official website is to post a “future events” box on the main page. You had an obligation to have publicised this DC Love Feast at least two weeks in advance… it’s what any REAL pro would’ve done. You’re accepting your pay under false pretence… you’re not doing your job… but you’re not the only one in that boat, are you?

It’s a normal day in the OCA… that’s a damning indictment, isn’t it?

Apparently, the West’s against terrorism only when it suits its own agenda. Despite the overwhelming physical and circumstantial evidence against the Minsk Metro Bombers, including a video tape of one of the perps planting the bomb, the Western media’s already screaming that the trial was unfair. They’re even stating that the Byelorussian government planted the bomb in order to create a situation of fear. At this point, I believe it’s a waste of time even answering the anti-Belarus and anti-Lukashenko ravings in the West. No matter what we say, no matter what evidence we present, they’ll continue to demonise Belarus and President Lukashenko. The death sentences aren’t subject to appeal. The only appeal that I’d make here is to our President, NOT to pardon these animals. Let the executions take place as ordered by law. These sons of bitches killed 15 innocent people and seriously injured dozens more. The firing squad is what they deserve!

Shooting is too good for these mass killers. I’d lock ‘em up in a room with the relatives of the Metro Bombing victims… I’d hand out baseball bats to the bereaved family members before I closed the door. I’d tell ‘em, “You’ve got 30 minutes to do what you will… just be done before I get back. Ya unnerstand?” Trust me… I don’t think that I’d be misunderstood. THAT would be justice. However, they’re going to die quickly and cleanly… their victims didn’t get that, did they? The use of the death penalty should be rare… and this is one of those instances. God have mercy on their souls.

I agree with you that the end of the MP/OCA/ROCOR status quo is coming soon. However, right now, it feels closer than ever. I find this an apocalyptic sign of the times. It’s unbelievable. Could you have imagined such a thing a mere five years ago? The Great Realignment’s in progress. The process won’t be pretty… as we’re seeing even now, it’s more like the making of sausage. Yet, all the pain and confusion will ultimately leave the real Church standing, and we’ll shake off all the deadweight. It’s hard to keep focused on that while we’re in the thick of it, though.

Another correspondent (from the MP) said:

[Rue Daru] has its ideology. The problem is that Metropolitan Hilarion is naïve; he simply doesn’t understand Rue Daru’s hatred for Russia and our Church. Rue Daru has to repent before it can join the Church… the same is true of the OCA. It’s difficult to watch the slow suicide of the ROCOR, but it can still survive if it wants to… it has to let Moscow take over. With such a bunch of incompetents at its helm, incapable of leadership, that’s what has to happen, but there are people in the ROCOR who can see exactly what’s going on. Fortunately, they have the excellent example of the OCA, which they don’t have to follow. The OCA blazed the trail in what not to do… all that they have to do is not to follow it.

To stand with Gabriel de Vylder at a time when the Parisian gang is spitting in the Centre’s face in re the situation in Nice wasn’t wise. Laurus Škurla would’ve never done such. Averky Taushev would’ve never done such. Vitaly Maksimenko would’ve never done such. In fact, no one in the ROCOR would’ve done such five years ago. What happened?

Partly, it’s due to the fact that the Great Reconciliation wasn’t truly sincere on the part of the ROCOR apparat. It was a matter of expediency, not conviction. They went along with it because the believers wanted it. Remember, these same jabonies applauded Vitaly Ustinov’s establishment of parishes on the Soviet space (if that isn’t an example of collective hypocrisy and mendacity, I don’t know what it is). As Lebedeff admitted in a post on the ROCOR clergy group, “80 percent of the believers in the larger urban parishes are New Russians who don’t understand why we’re not in union with Moscow”. Here’s the paradox… ROCOR needed the New Russians to survive, as its poor policy had driven away too much of its original base, but if they embraced this group, they then had to cater to that group’s wants and needs… or die as an organisation.

Prior to the fall of the USSR, the ROCOR had hardened into a group that was reliably far-right in its politics. Remember how Jordanville used to boast, “We’re in contact with the catacomb church by means that we can’t disclose, because it would hurt them?” That was a LIE; no matter how thick or thin you sliced it, it was pure, 100 percent, unalloyed, unadulterated bullshit. You could count on the spokesmen of the ROCOR to support all rightwing criticism of the Soviet Union and they zealously rooted out all those who dissented from such views. Indeed, the ROCOR didn’t tolerate anyone who dissented with the views of the Hardline Far Right of the Republican Party. I know… basically, they threw me out of a parish for dissenting with the policy of planting parishes in the former USSR. “The communists are still in charge”… that’s what they said. I’ll never forget that. Oh… today, the people who said that now take a different tack, “We didn’t mean it. We secretly opposed it”. That’s utterly false and without foundation. However, you can’t argue with such sorts, for they’re infected with Groupthink… that means that they’ll deny everything that they once said; if the Party Line changes, they’ll flip yet again, and be utterly “sincere” about it all, too.

For that reason, it means that the ROCOR apparat didn’t change their spots, but they did change their tune. That is, they flipped once before… they could do so, again. Why are they dancing with SVS and Rue Daru? These two groups are Russophobic and anti-Moscow. Make no mistake on it, the ROCOR apparat was anti-Moscow in 2002, and NONE OF ITS MEMBERS HAVE CHANGED IN A FUNDAMENTAL WAY. The reception of the Reconciliation (I don’t like the term “Union” as it brings up shades of “Unia” or “Uniate” to most Russian people) of 2007 was sincere on the level of the rank n’ file believers. Those who disliked it, left… and that did include whole parishes. As far as ordinary footslogger priests were concerned, if they didn’t like it, they left… as one can see from Pashkovsky’s raggly-taggly little band.

However, the First Families, the apparat that “controlled” the ROCOR weren’t so honest. They didn’t want to lose their “influence”… there wasn’t any real money involved… any average RC parish in the Outer Boroughs has more money than the OCA and ROCOR have, put together. That is, they’d lose their “positions”… they’d lose their “titles”… they wanted to maintain a world where being a Larin, a Perekrestov, a Krassovsky, a Lukianov, or a Drobot meant something. This isn’t the only instance of this that I’ve seen in my life. Such situations are always inherently unstable… neither party really trusts the other one. I believe that the ROCOR apparat has found “common cause” with the OCA apparat. Both fear the future; both fear the growing power and influence of the Centre in larger Church affairs. Institutional survival makes for “strange” bedfellows… both the OCA and the ROCOR have reached the end of their useful lives, but their combined apparats are attempting to breathe life into a flat-lined corpse.

Do you remember the old game of Twister? That’s what this increasingly resembles. To use another analogy, we’re at the point in the Jenga game where all that we have to do is to pull out one more block… you can see why the apparats are acting like a maniacal E Power Biggs at the console of the Mighty Wurlitzer breathlessly pulling all the stops to impress the credulous. There’s much sound n’ fury, of course… but there’s not much else.

They should’ve been in Moscow celebrating His Holiness’ birthday… I wonder why they weren’t… good question, no? As I said, what would’ve Vitaly Maksimenko said of it all? That’s the crux…
