Editor’s Note:
The vote for the KPRF was highest in large urban areas, where it got 25 percent of the vote. United Russia did better in smaller cities and outlying areas (the centre of most election hanky-panky, both now and in the past). My information is that rank n’ file priests urged believers to vote for the KPRF. Not only that, the Church did NOT tone down its anti-oligarch, anti-Free Market rhetoric. Do observe that when the Church denounces “liberalism”, it denounces what the Anglosphere calls “conservatism”… no lie. When His Holiness attacks “liberalism”, he attacks the bedrock ideology of the Republican Party… interesting, no? You see, Classical Liberalism is the underpinning for “conservatism”… NOT Classical Conservatism! Otto von Bismarck WOULDN’T even THINK of riding the “Cain Train”.
United Russia’s nothing but a vehicle for the Putin–Medvedev duopoly… it doesn’t really have an institutional “culture” or “being”. The KPRF and LDPR do have such. They’re the only “real” political parties in Russia. All others are just vehicles for this-or-that politician. However… do mark it down well… the Church urged people to vote KPRF and the Communist vote did go up. The Church thinks in the LOOOONG term. Think on what that means for the future. Expect a Red Christianity… or, to put it another way, a Christian Bolshevism… I kid you not. The Cross will precede the Red Banner. The Church BLESSES Socialism… it doesn’t curse it (all American rightwingers masquerading as “Orthodox”… take note). That’s what the church really believes, in any case. As Gennady Andreyevich put it, “Christ was the first communist”.
The Church and the Party are now allies. This alliance was tested in the fires of the Nasty Nineties… when the Komsomol activists stood up tall against American-financed Uniate and schismatic attacks against the Church (not to mention “Evangelical” and RC proselytisers). Today, most Party members are believers… as is Gennady Andreyevich. It’s not the militant atheist Party of Lenin… it’s a New Party that welcomes believers and honours them. We may be seeing the beginning of a new Eurasian Union… a new USSR under a different name. It’s clear that United Russia is ephemeral… it’s going to dissipate once Putin’s gone. God willing, the new Eurasian Union will restrain the attack dogs of the American Right just as the old USSR did… I hope that it shall… or, we won’t have a civilisation worth saving. Dear Lord, make it so…
