In December 2012, the Ministry of Defence (Minoborony) proposed a new field uniform. Minoborony projected that the updated uniform, 500 sets of which have already passed state trials in polar regions, tropical regions, Siberia, and Central Russia, would enter general service in the forces by 2014. The new military wardrobe consists of 19 items… underwear, outerwear, jackets, and waistcoats, augmented with several kinds of accessories such as hats, shoes, and gloves. The uniform design employs the latest modern technologies; jackets and vests have water-repellent coating, winter clothing has an insulating layer that doesn’t soak through and keeps the wearer warm. Each uniform has an expected lifespan of at least three years. Minoborony will issue 70,000 uniform sets in 2013. RIA-Novosti received the information on the new uniform patterns from the BTK Group.
