Let’s revisit a recent statement by Tikhon Mollard (for the source, click here):
On that initial date, we met together with Metropolitan Jonah and his legal counsel in a neutral location for a full day of discussion. The basic presupposition of the negotiation was contained in the phrasing of our opening question to Metropolitan Jonah: “Where would you like to be in five years and how can the Orthodox Church in America and its Holy Synod help you to get there?” This presupposition continues to be the basis for approaching this issue and it is the basis for the final proposal that has been offered to Metropolitan Jonah and which I would like to request formal approval from the Metropolitan Council for the financial component. This will take place later in this meeting.
What’s WRONG with this picture? Firstly, note the tone… it’s downright obsequious, cringing, and wheedling to the bone (I’d call it “Heepish” to the max). The quote from Mollard is mindboggling, vacuous, and inane:
“Where would you like to be in five years and how can the Orthodox Church in America and its Holy Synod help you to get there?”
This is absolute bullshit. It’s taken me a couple of days to cool down after reading this empty-headed and rubbishy gobbledygook initially. Trust me, Metropolitan Leonty Turkevich would never have spoken like that to a mutineer who had the goddamn gall to bring a lawyer and threaten to sue the OCA Holy Synod (even if only passively, through having his legal mouthpiece present). He would’ve said, “Here’s what I have on offer… if you don’t like it, you can lump it. If you want to sue the Church, or me, go ahead, sonny boy. I’ll see you in court”. Could you have seen the late great Vladyki Kiprian Borisevich’s reaction to JP’s noisome claptrap and legal threats? You’d be able to see the flash from the thermonuclear reaction all the way at the Centre!
The OCA owes NOTHING to JP. NOTHING… NO WAY… NO HOW. They’re letting themselves in for a ton of grief. JP’s a monk… ergo, the only thing that the OCA “owes” him is three hots n’ a cot at one of its monasteries. He doesn’t need 25 Gs (784,000 Roubles. 19,500 Euros. 16,500 UK Pounds) for “moving expenses”… what’s he movin’? The Taj Mahal? You can hire a semi for far less than that, kids. It’s time to raise a stink… and to withhold assessment money from Syosset until they give up trying to pay off Fatso. They want to give away YOUR money to this feckless and outrageous con artist. Do the right thing… but don’t argue with the Syosset Mafia. If you were to do that, they’d just bar you from the chalice (following in the footsteps of their Renovationist mentor, Schmemann). Just withhold your money from them… trust me, they do understand THAT.

What do we want the Church to do? We don’t ask for more cathedrals. We don’t ask for bigger churches of fine gifts. We ask for its presence with us, beside us, as Christ among us. We ask the Church to sacrifice with the people for social change, for justice, and for love of brother. We don’t ask for words. We ask for deeds. We don’t ask for paternalism. We ask for servanthood.

Click here and here. César Estrada Chávez was a sincerely-believing Catholic Christian who prayed the Rosary every day of his life on his knees before his God. 31 March was his birthday… and it was Easter… a holiday that Sr Chávez celebrated every year of his life. Google’s “doodle” wasn’t only in good taste and appropriate, it FIT… for its subject was a man who had no guile in him as far his faith and his vision went.
It tells you much about the “conservative” movement that they would find this offensive. I’m not even going to comment on the fact that some righties were so stupid that they thought that the “doodle” honoured Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías, not César Estrada Chávez. I have news for them, President Chávez was a sincere Catholic Christian, and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill Gundyaev of Moscow and all the Russias gave him his blessing (whilst he was Metropolitan of Smolensk and head of the MP DECR). Both Sr Chávez and President Chávez drew their thirst for social justice from their religious faith.
You can stand with those whose faith leads to struggling for justice for all, or, you can stand with those whose “faith” snickers at man’s inhumanity to man in the name of “economic freedom” and “free markets”. Choose well… your eternal destiny DOES depend on it.
