26 May 2013. Things are Getting Curiouser and Curiouser Department… The JP Story Just WON’T Die

I’m getting confirmation that the story about El Gordo going to the Antiochians isn’t only making the rounds, it’s circulating in clerical circles (since Saturday, I’m told). Mind you, it doesn’t mean that it’s true, but it does mean that this story has “legs”… as I stated previously, believe NOTHING until there’s an official confirmation. However, priests are passing this intel on… it means that the whole OCA is interested in this particular little soap opera. Is Philip Saliba taking “stupid pills?” Or, is this just cockamamie bullshit of the highest degree? We’ll all have to wait and see… none of us KNOWS anything. If nothing else, it means that JP won’t be serving at St T‘s tomorrow (on the other hand, don’t be surprised if Herman shows up… he won’t serve, but he may be vested). If he does, it’ll surprise not only me, but just about everyone else in the OCA. Things are NEVER boring covering this beat…

26 May 2013. RIA-Novosti Infographics. Global Warming: Observations and Forecasts

00 RIA-Novosti Infographics. Global Warming. Observations and Forecasts. 2013

The problem of global warming is one of the key environmental problems facing mankind. Scientists link many changes in animal behaviour and lifestyle and plant development to global warming. To learn more about the possible consequences of global warming, see our RIA-Novosti Infographic.

On 20 May, the international RIA-Novosti multimedia press centre launched a new educational/informational project in conjunction with the Polytechnic Museum, “Science Monday”, which opened with a showing of the documentary Chasing Ice, by the American filmmaker Jeff Orlowski, working with a script by Mark Monroe. This picture, a nominee for an “Oscar” in the category “Best Documentary Film“, is dedicated to one of the main dangers of global warming… the melting of the polar ice caps. In addition to viewing this relevant and interesting film, the event will include discussions, lectures, and workshops with the participation of the filmmakers and the film’s direct heroes… scientists and researchers involved in polar research.

00 RIA-Novosti Infographics. High-Power Marine Laser System (SMLK). 2013

The concept of the High-Power Marine Laser System (SMLK) received its first presentation at the 41st International Exhibition of Inventions in April 2013. Use of the laser will double the icebreaking ability of ships and reduce loads on marine engineering structures, as well as safely eliminate oil spills, without harm to the environment. The SMLK designers had to address such problems as allowing icebreakers and icebreaking vessels to navigate through heavier ice cover, increasing the width of passage through the ice, eliminating oil spills in the extraction and processing of oil reserves, and reducing ice loads on engineering structures working on the continental shelf, amongst other things. The laser system has a fibre laser, a fibre-optic cable installation, guidance and focusing hardware to aim and focus laser beam, and a power supply. A scale-model SMLK confirmed the fundamental ability of a powerful laser to destroy ice cover to a thickness of 1-2 metres (3.3-6.6 feet) when using a fibre laser with a continuously radiated power of 30 kW. In addition, one could fit more-powerful lasers in the SMLK installed on nuclear and diesel icebreakers and icebreaking ship classes, if their power plants are sufficient to supply a more powerful laser system.

26 May 2013. Unhinged Nonsense from an Overeducated Idiot: “Is There Lent After Lent?”

05l Patriarch Kirill Oncology Visit Easter 2011

THIS is what Easter‘s all about… Mr Kostoff should get his nose out of the books and into REAL LIFE…

Firstly, here’s the piece I’m slicing and dicing. The whole premise of it is ridiculous and thoroughly un-Orthodox. Then, I noticed that the overeducated nudnik who wrote it works for the papists and takes their shilling. The whole ethos behind this screed is papist to the bone… it’s not Orthodox in the least. This is one of the problems facing us as a minority confession on the American and Canadian scene. There’s always a temptation to kiss up to papists or Proddies in order to gain a salaried position (usually, as the “token” house-nigger Orthodox faculty-member).

There’s NO “Lent after Lent”… you boob. Easter follows Lent. Feasting follows abstinence, joy follows reflection. That’s clear even to the simple… but it seems to evade the educated… especially, those educated under heterodox auspices or those working for the heterodox (who have to pay (at least) lip-service to the heresies of their employers). Lenten reflection should lead to Easter joy… it sure did, in my case. We went to Easter liturgy at Jordanville, and it was WONDERFUL. I didn’t engage in any semi-papist “soul-searching”… I let the Easter Spirit carry me away.

This guy shouldn’t publish such pseudo-intellectual dreck in an Orthodox venue. However, as one of the Cabinet observed about the OCA:

In re Schmemann and the OCA, “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king”.

I fear that Mr Kostoff imbibed too much of Schmemann and too much of the papist claptrap that he works amongst… in short, an overeducated and underwhelming dweeb. He needs at least two years in a real parish full of Old School Metropolia sorts… that’d learn him good. However, I doubt that’ll happen… well, they do say that God helps drunks and fools…
