Syrian “Rebels” Destroy Another Church

00 Syrian Church 2012

Militants of the fanatical Islamist group Jabhat an-Nusra operating in Syria set fire to a Syrian Christian church in Deir ez-Zor on the Euphrates. According to the Syrian news agency SANA, the fire destroyed the interior of the church and its relics, but there were no reports about the fate of the parishioners or clergy. Last October, Islamic fanatics fighting on the side of the armed opposition blew up a Latin church in a city in the east of Syria. Over the last two years of conflict, Syrian “rebels” destroyed dozens of churches and mosques, mostly in Homs and Aleppo, and even destroyed an ancient synagogue in Jubara, a suburb of Damascus.

20 June 2013. You Can’t Make Up Shit Like This… In Mexico: Cat Morris… Ideal Candidate for Mayor in Xalapa

00 Cat Morris for Mayor. 20.06.13

Fed up with politicians they call “rats“, a group of friends in Xalapa-Enríquez in eastern Mexico put forward their ideal candidate for mayor… a cat named Morris. Xalapa resident Sergio Chamorro, who adopted the cat in August, said the plan began as a joke between friends, born out of their frustration with the Vera Cruz state government over freedom of speech. One campaign poster featuring the black and white cat, using the Spanish “ratas” for rats and “gato” for Morris, read, “Fed up of voting for rats? Vote for a cat”.  Chamorro created a Facebook page advertising Morris’ candidacy in May. The page went viral in early June and now has more than 125,000 likes. As the news spread, disillusioned citizens across Mexico nominated a donkey and even a chicken for political offices in the 7 July election. There are seven official candidates for Xalapa mayor, including representatives of Mexico’s three major parties. Despite his large following, Morris isn’t an officially-registered candidate, so, Chamorro is asking voters to write in “Morris” or draw a picture of a cat on their ballot.
