Snowden Asked Ecuador for Asylum

On Sunday, the Ecuadorian newspaper Hoy reported that former American intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, wanted by the USA for revealing a highly-classified surveillance program that allegedly monitored phone and electronic conversations of millions of Americans, arrived in Moscow and an Ecuadorian Embassy doctor examined him. Snowden, 30, left Hong Kong on Sunday, a day after the USA formally requested his extradition. A passenger who was on an Aeroflot flight that Snowden is believed to have taken to Moscow told RIA-Novosti that Snowden got into a car with diplomatic plates on the tarmac at Sheremetyevo Airport. However, media reports cited airport officials as saying that Snowden wouldn’t be allowed to leave the premises because he didn’t have a Russian visa and would therefore only be able to fly to a third destination.

Julian Assange, founder of the anti-secrecy organisation WikiLeaks, which released thousands of classified US government messages, has stayed at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for more than a year. On Sunday, the AP reported that WikiLeaks said that it was assisting Snowden and that he was bound for an undisclosed “democratic nation via a safe route for the purpose of asylum”. Snowden, who worked for American defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton, hit the media spotlight in early June after he leaked to the press information about a US government surveillance program that allegedly monitored phone and electronic conversations of millions of Americans. Days after the leak, the South China Morning Post newspaper quoted Snowden as saying he was “neither a traitor nor hero. I’m an American”. Various news agencies on Sunday reported without confirmation that Snowden could next fly to Ecuador, Iceland, Cuba, or Venezuela.

On Sunday, Ecuador’s foreign minister said on Twitter that Edward Snowden, a former American intelligence contractor wanted by the USA for revealing a highly classified surveillance program, requested asylum in Ecuador. Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño Aroca wrote on his Twitter page, “The government of Ecuador received an asylum request from Edward J Snowden”.

Editor’s Note:

Do note that spying on one’s own people is EXPENSIVE. You need to employ many people… and that ain’t cheap. The Bushies started doing it after 9/11… under the rubric of the “Global War on Terror“. They started the Department of Homeland Security (so similar to “Committee for State Security“, no? Rather Orwellian title, I’d say…) and the TSA (have you had your grope today?). One of the union reps said to me when I was working at Verizon, “Don’t act as if we still have free speech in this country”. Reflect on this… the Republicans want to spend BILLIONS more on warfare and domestic surveillance… they want to spend NOTHING on healthcare and social welfare. That sounds like a dictatorship in the mould of 1984.  In short, President Obama isn’t a bargain, but he’s FAR better than the Republicans are. Don’t forget, the Republicans DELIBERATELY crashed the economy by cutting taxes and increasing war outlays at the same time. They wish to do that so that they can dismantle what’s left of the New Deal, including Social Security.

That’s EVIL… and there are Orthodox clerics who slobber their approval of it. Oppose them and give them no peace. God demands that of you…

00 Mikhail Kalashnikov. Russian,Soviet inventor. 16.12.13

______________________________

On Sunday, official spokesman Irina Rossius said that the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) sent a plane to Izhevsk in western Urals to take Mikhail Kalashnikov, the 93-year-old inventor of the legendary AK-47 assault rifle, to a Moscow clinic. She said, “Due to the emergence of the need for medical observation, his doctors decided to send Mikhail Timofeyevich [Kalashnikov] to a Moscow clinic”, without specifying the health condition of the legendary assault rifle inventor. She went on to say that the MChS plane has a special medical module with the necessary medical equipment. Rossius noted, “During the flight, the best doctors of the MChS Centrospas team and the all-Russian Disaster Medicine Centre “Protection” would accompany the legendary rifle maker to monitor his health condition”. On 17 May, the 93-year old Kalashnikov went to the cardiology department of the clinical and diagnostic centre in the Republic of Udmurtia in the western Urals for a planned health check, which he undergoes several times a year, but the clinic discharged him on 30 May.

Putin Pledges to Support Perinatal Medicine

Barbara-Marie Drezhlo. To Aid Mothers and Kids. 2012

______________________________

At the Eleventh World Congress of Perinatal Medicine, President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian authorities would support perinatal medicine, develop neonatal surgery, and build perinatal centres. The Kremlin quoted Putin as saying on Saturday to the Congress, “Our duty is to fight for the life of each child. Last year, Russia switched over to birth record criteria recommended by the WHO”. The Congress was held in Moscow 19 -22 June, and assembled over 2,000 participants from 91 countries. Putin said, “We began investing considerable state funds into this very important branch of healthcare, and will keep doing so”. He said that protection of mothers and children was a priority of Russia’s state and social policy. Putin noted that “58 modern perinatal centres actively work throughout the country”, saying that Russia would build more such centres to make such specialised medical assistance available to mothers and children living in remote regions. He said that a large federal perinatal centre would open in 2014 in Moscow.

Editor’s Note:

Russia wants to INCREASE state spending on healthcare… the Republican Party wants to CUT it. It’s rather cut n’ dried, kids. There’s no prettifying the situation. The Republicans are EVIL… they refuse to shoulder the rightful burdens that society places on all of us to aid the more poorly-off. That says it all. I can’t see how Hilarion Kapral can sit in the same room as Victor Potapov, James Paffhausen, Rod Dreher, or Alexander Webster. They’re vociferous advocates of the putrid and theomachistic ideology peddled by the New GOP. Hilarion should know better… he grew up in Prairie Alberta, which was a NDP stronghold and where a good deal of Canadian social justice legislation first took root. Alberta was the home of the Socreds and the United Farmers… hardly rightwing organisations.

Let’s get it straight… Russia wants to increase healthcare spending… the Republicans call Russia evil… the Republicans want to cut healthcare spending. If you can’t see that such illogic and fantasy is abominable, even God Himself couldn’t put you right. Reflect on this… many of the konvertsy slobber over the GOP. That tells you volumes about their character. It also tells you volumes about the character of ethnic sellouts like Potapov and Lyonyo.

God bless Russia… it’s doing the right thing. Oppose the Republicans… it’s your duty as decent human beings…

23 June 2013. You Can’t Make Up Shit Like This… Traktorist Steals Bridge in Russia

00 Tractor in field. 23.06.13

______________________________

In an age of convoluted wrongdoing, it’s refreshing to find a criminal eschewing complex machinations in favour of a hands-on approach… as a local man did in Russia’s northern Vologda Oblast, stealing a small metal bridge for scrap metal. The culprit led local police on what could well have been the most anticlimactic investigation in the history of Vologda, given that he dragged the bridge with his tractor, leaving a trail all the way to his house. The criminal turned out to be a 23-year-old local man recently released on parole, oblast police said in a statement Friday, without specifying his name or previous offence. The man faces two more years behind bars over the incident. He managed to dismantle the bridge with a welding machine, but he didn’t have the time to sell the pieces. The incident took place in the village of Frolovo, some 50 kilometres (31 miles) northeast of the city of Vologda. The cops said that the loss of the bridge left the locals without access to a spring that serves as a reserve water supply whenever the water tower in the village breaks. Russian police blamed unusual disappearances on scrap metal collectors in the past, including unsolved thefts of several steam locomotives in Krasnoyarsk Krai in 2005 and someone nicked a circus bear’s bicycle… a heavy steel structure unfit for human use… in Tatarstan last May.
