Editor’s Foreword:

This guy isn’t goofing… he’s for real. That is, he really thinks that he was one of the forces behind Russian legislation on gay propaganda. What a maroon! Reflect on this… there are those in the Church who want to ally us with these Evangelical yahoos. Now, that’s NOT kosher, kids…

An American pastor who promotes a “war” against homosexuals claimed that he helped inspire a controversial Russian law enacted earlier this year banning gay propaganda. In an interview on NBC News published Wednesday, Scott Lively, a Massachusetts-based pastor who preached widely against homosexuality in Russia and Eastern Europe, “Yes, I think I influenced the Russian law”. Lively’s facing a lawsuit in US federal court for allegedly persecuting homosexuals in Uganda and promoting a draft law in the East African country that would’ve allowed the death penalty for same-sex relations. The American rights group that brought the lawsuit told NBC News that it’s preparing a similar action against Lively over his promotion of anti-gay policies in Russia and Eastern Europe if evidence emerges that he was “an architect” of Russia’s law on homosexuals.

The vaguely worded law, which President Vladimir Putin signed in June, bans the promotion of “non-traditional sexual relationships” to minors, making it an offence punishable with hefty fines. The law saw wide criticism in Russia and abroad as a clampdown on the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community in Russia. In an open letter to Putin posted on his blog last month, Lively praised the Russian leader for the law, noting that he travelled in Russia several years ago “advocating the very policy you have enacted”. In a subsequent blog post, Lively said that he sent Putin a copy of his book, The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party, and promised the Russian president the first copy of the book’s forthcoming Russian translation.

NBC News reported that, in the 1990s, Lively was an instrumental figure in enacting local laws in a smattering of Oregon communities making it illegal to “promote, encourage or facilitate homosexuality”. In 2006 and 2007, he travelled in Siberia and the Russian Far East warning audiences that homosexuality is evil. Lively told an audience in Novosibirsk in October 2007, “In the USA, where the sexual revolution began, the homosexual-political movement designed this strategy to attack Christianity”. The vast majority of Russians appear to back the law on homosexuality. In a June survey by state-run pollster VTsIOM, 88 percent of respondents expressed support for a ban on the “propaganda of homosexuality among minors”.

Editor’s Afterword:

You know who’re just as goofy as this Lively guy? The people who’re intending to sue him, that’s who! We should ignore loudmouthed trash like that… they ENJOY being sued. It means free publicity for their goofy views, they get a free megaphone for their craziness, and they get the delicious frisson that fanatics get from “persecution”. Leave such sorts alone. Leaving them alone infuriates them… they’re important and God’s Little Flock, dontcha know! We have people like that amongst us… don’t give ‘em the pleasure of irritating ‘em… they’ll go away soon enough if we leave ‘em alone. The sooner, the better, I say…
