On Wednesday, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan Šimonović confirmed discrimination of Russian-speakers in the Ukraine, but he told the UN Security Council that the instances were sporadic. Earlier, Russia criticised Šimonović for ignoring murders, mass executions, tortures, abductions, and assaults on journalists and rights activists, politically motivated incarcerations, and appalling racist, anti-Russian, and anti-Semitic incidents in the Ukraine, committed with tacit approval from the ruling junta. Speaking at the UN session on Ukraine yesterday, the Croat human rights commissioner confirmed that the Russian minority in the Ukraine often falls victim to discrimination and even attacks, but noted it looked like these rights violations had neither a widespread occurrence or “systematic character” {much like Croat attacks on and discrimination against Serbs… take that with a block of salt, kids: editor}. He added that we must thoroughly investigate all violations of this nature, especially when they target minorities. Šimonović has toured the Ukraine since 7 March. He visited Kiev, Kharkov, Lvov, and intended to travel further south to the Republic of the Crimea, but he said that the Ukrainian authorities barred him from doing so {note how he kissed the junta’s ass: that invalidates his testimony, doesn’t it?: editor}.
Editor:
Šimonović is a Croat… ergo, he’ll minimise any outrages against Russians, as he hates Orthodox. Never forget the Serbian Holocaust… and its Croat perpetrators. The present Croatian state refuses to condemn Ustaša crimes (most notably, its massacre of Orthodox Christians… they did likewise, fancy that)… act accordingly.

The Associated Press no longer marks news items coming from the Crimea as Ukrainian. In a blog statement, the American news major explained that the Ukrainian junta lost control over the peninsula, emphasising that it based its marking practise on the actual state of things. Where it once used the dateline “SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine (AP)”, they’ll now use “SEVASTOPOL, Crimea (AP)”. The reason is that the Crimea is geographically distinct from Russia; they have no land border. The AP Stylebook announced, “For instance, we just say ‘Sicily’ and ‘Sardinia’ in datelines (‘Palermo, Sicily’), even though they’re part of Italy, and ‘Guadeloupe’ in datelines even though that island is part of France”. The change will effectively recognise the Crimea as an independent state following a referendum on Sunday where the vast majority of Crimeans voted to become independent and rejoin Russia.

Chairman of the Gosduma Sergei Naryshkin told reporters that statements by Kiev that it might introduce a visa régime for Russians shows that the Ukraine cares little for people, saying, “It’s a political statement, where the Ukraine demonstrates, once again, that its self-appointed leadership isn’t concerned about people. Thousands upon thousands of family ties unite Russia and the Ukraine. If they introduce a visa régime, it’d cause big problems for our citizens. Clearly, the Ukraine’s leadership is concerned about other things, not about people”.

On Thursday, a spokesman told ITAR-TASS that the FSB busted a channel of arms smuggling from the EU to Russia via the Ukraine, saying, “In an operation to expose and bust channels of illegal circulation of firearms and their parts, the FSB exposed arms smuggling from EU states to Russia via the Ukraine by vehicles, rail, and postal operators”.

The Russian Geographical Society (RGS) plans to coöperate with cartographers and the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre, and Cartography to draw new maps of Russia including the Republic of Crimea and the Federal City of Sevastopol as two new subjects of the Russian Federation. In the near future, the society will consider sending a scientific research expedition to the Crimea to study the republic’s rich natural, cultural, and historical heritage. The RGS plans to open a regional headquarters in the Crimea this year.

On Thursday, at Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu’s request, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognising the military ranks and education of Ukrainian officers who wish to serve in the Russian forces. Shoigu said during a meeting with President Putin, “This means that we recognise the military ranks and education of officers now in the Ukrainian forces, but who’ve asked to serve in not just the Russian armed forces, but in the internal forces as well, such as the MVD and FSB”.

Note the methodical way in how VVP is moving… one step at a time, with all the bases covered. Oh, yes… the MID DID say that Russia could intervene if the Russian population requested it… and this announcement means that army and police officers and troops could continue in Russian service after the reintegration. VVP isn’t the leading statesman of our time for nought.

On Thursday, Deputy Defence Minister Yuri Borisov told reporters that the Russian Armed Forces would revise their development plans in the context of the entry of the Crimea and Sevastopol into Russia, saying, “Certainly, we need to develop military infrastructure on the peninsula to make the Crimea a worthy part of the Russian Federation and to protect it from possible intrusions. This isn’t only the Minoborony’s responsibility. On one hand, it’s is a huge victory, but on the other hand, it’s is a huge commitment to the people of the Crimea. We have to give a good account of ourselves in the international community so that it doesn’t doubt our aspirations and our capacities. Let them not have such doubts. We’ve done a lot to develop the Black Sea Fleet, including support for its shipyards in the Crimea. Now, we’ll have to look at their future again. We’ll not only support them, we’ll consider increasing our orders”.

Ukrainian border guards detained four Russian journalists after they allegedly failed to “prove the purpose of their visit”. The border control authority said that they seized the Russians seized overnight in the Donetsk airport, claiming that three reporters hadn’t presented them with sufficient evidence of their aims and residence plans, later confirming that they were NTV employees. Border guards apprehended another Russian citizen after he said that he worked for a French-German TV channel; allegedly, he didn’t have enough financial coverage for his trip.

Some 40 Czech families in Volyn Oblast asked the Czech Republic’s Interior Ministry to allow their return to their home country. Interior Ministry spokesman Vladimir Řepka confirmed that Ministry received the request. One of those behind this move is Antonin Holc, 76; he now lives near the Czech city of Olomouc, but he’s a spokesman for Volyn Czechs in Czechia. He wrote, “If it all depended on me, I’d take back every single Czech from Volyn in the Ukraine, for it’s certainly better for them to live in their home country. Recently, the crime rate went up in the Ukraine, so any person who has property can come under attack”.
Czech MP Radim Fiala said in a statement that the Czech government shouldn’t ignore the danger that ethnic Czechs face in Volyn, noting, “Crime and banditry is on the rise in the Western Ukraine, and local radical groups who imbibed the legacy of Stepan Bandera are to blame. We can’t ignore the apprehensions of our compatriots, as they have experience of clashing with nationalists during the Second World War”. When a group of Czech MPs met the leader of Volyn Czechs making their home in Zhitomir Oblast, Emma Snidevicova, she also asked Czechia to allow Ukraine-based Czechs to move back home. She handed the MPs a petition from Volyn Czech families who sought to return to Czechia. At present, up to 20,000 ethnic Czechs make their home in Volyn.

Volyn was the site of massive UPA massacres of non-Ukrainians in 1943-44. Poles were the main victims, but the Uniate terrorists were equal opportunity haters… they also killed Russians, Byelorussians, Roma, Armenians, and others (they’d already helped the Nazis exterminate the Jews). They even killed Galicians who were Orthodox… nice guys, wot? Such facts make the fears of non-Ukrainians in Volynia quite reasonable. They did it before… they could do it again. The LOW figure for the Volyn murders by the UPA is 30,000… reflect on the fact that the USA supports those who imbibed the UPA’s hateful ideology. THAT chills my blood…

On Thursday, Vladimir Konstantinov, Chairman of the State Soviet of the Republic of the Crimea (GS RK) said that the RK would officially adopt the Russian Rouble as its currency on Monday 24 March, saying, “The rouble is already here. On Thursday, the MID said that Moscow would reply proportionately and effectively to Kiev’s attempts to seize Russian property in the Ukraine and abroad, saying, “The Minister of Justice of the Ukraine threatened to compensate the Ukraine for the damage from some nationalisation of Ukrainian property in the Crimea by taking property of the Russian Federation, including the property of Gazprom. We’d regard any encroachments by the Ukrainian authorities upon Russian property, including abroad, as a gross violation of international law and the principle of state sovereignty. Naturally, we reserve the right to take adequate and proportionate countermeasures. Threats against particular Russian commercial enterprises, specifically Gazprom are especially surprising. According to the Ukrainian Constitution, private ownership is inviolable, and forced alienation of private property is only possible after advance and full reimbursement of its value. In addition, the effective Russian-Ukrainian Agreement on the Encouragement and Mutual Protection of Investments of 1998 would fully cover the property of commercial business entities, like Gazprom”.
Editor:
Do note, “We reserve the right to take adequate and proportionate countermeasures”. That means that Russia will protect the pipeline route. Due to the protracted nature of the crisis, no doubt, it now has an adequate supply of spares to repair damage to the pipeline by Galician Uniate Svoboda nutters. Watch for Svoboda creeps to try to do gnarly things on the pipeline… that’d trigger a Russian response… and the EU would do NOTHING… to ensure the gas supply for themselves. This is developing… and the picture emerging isn’t pretty. The junta is so strapped for cash that it’s trying to mess with Russian property. That WILL be its downfall…
