Interfax reported that the opolchenie told them that junta forces resumed their offensive against Slavyansk in the early morning hours of 26 May, “Fire on Semyonovka resumed, and they fired on a hospital. They had to evacuate the patients to the basement”. Shooting continued from Karachun Hill toward Andreyevka and Vostochny and some opolchenie fighters suffered wounds.

During the search and raid operations near the roadblock they found two slain militants (sic)”.

On Monday, Reuters reported that journalists near Donetsk airport in Novorossiya heard sustained gunfire in the vicinity and saw smoke billowing from somewhere inside its perimeter. On the day after the sham Ukrainian presidential “election”, opolchenie forced the closure of the airport and took over the terminal, demanding the withdrawal of junta forces from the facility. An Interfax correspondent reported audible explosions near the airport, and people spotted military aircraft over the former Donetsk Oblast state administration building. Local news website OstroV also reported, “At this moment, eyewitnesses heard a series of explosions. Helicopters are flying over the town and people can hear warplanes”. An airport employee noted that staff evacuated the traffic control tower. He said that the day shift wouldn’t report for work on Monday and it’s questionable whether the night shift, which takes over after 20.00, will report either. The tower isn’t far from the airport, in Vesyoloye, near Spartak, in Yasnovataya Raion. The source said, “Currently, we don’t control the airspace, not on the passenger side at least. Fighting is underway there, and a sniper shot at reporters trying to capture the developments on video. According to some reports, the authorities evacuated residents of districts close to the airport. On videos broadcast live from onsite, junta irregulars tried to force a group of journalists to leave the area. However, the reporters didn’t leave, as the whole area is under gunfire. GAI are trying to block traffic in Donetsk downtown, as well as all the approaches to the airport.
