On Sunday, Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s National Front, said in an interview with der Spiegel that Europe bears responsibility for what’s happening in the Ukraine. She said that she supported the idea of a loosely-federalised Ukraine, and accused the EU of “pouring fuel on the fire” by offering partnership to a country where half of the population looks eastward. Le Pen remarked that Europe shows Russia in a bad light to please the USA, but instead of taking cues from Washington, Europe should form its own opinion. She said that the Americans are seeking to expand their sphere of influence globally, especially in Europe, guided by their own interests, “not ours”. Le Pen praised President V V Putin for “not allowing other countries to impose decisions on him” and for defending the “interests of Russia and Russians”. RIA-Novosti reported that 38 refugees from Slavyansk, including 22 children, forced by Ukrainian border guards to cross the Ukrainian-Russian border on foot, reached the Crimea after travelling through Rostov Oblast and Krasnodar Krai. Rostov Oblast officials met them on the Russian side of the border and accommodated them at the Donetsky Hotel. The local authorities provided two buses that took the children to the seaside resort of Yevpatoria.
