Abbot Theodor Micka, Abbot of Holy Cross Monastery in California, Dies… Will be Buried at His Monastery Per His Last Request… Вечная ему память!

As usual, oca.org did a shitty job on this story. I found the following after a quick Google search. Lil’ Mizz Ginny’s living down to her lazy reputation.

Do remember to light a candle for Abbot Theodor and do ask your priest to mention his name at Proskomidi and have Pannikhida said for him. We’re Christians, that’s what we do.

Вечная ему память!

For nearly 35 years, Abbot Theodor Micka tended to the grounds of his 9-acre (3.65-hectare) monastery in Castro Valley CA. Now, the 75-year-old is asking state lawmakers for a rare exemption to California law that would allow him to remain at the monastery he co-founded after he dies. State Senator Ellen Corbett (D-San Leandro), whose district includes the monastery, said, “From the moment the request was made, we got on this immediately. We looked at the best way to address the request with all due haste so he knows his final request will be granted”. SB124 would allow Alameda County to issue a burial permit for Micka on the Holy Cross Monastery grounds. Existing state law requires a burial at a cemetery, unless a person is cremated. Because the monastery isn’t a designated cemetery, burying the abbot on the property would be considered a misdemeanour without the special law. With the legislative deadline to introduce bills having passed, Corbett employed a routine process known as a gut-and-amend, where new language replaces the contents of a bill. In this case, a bill to create incentives for the state to hire clean-energy contractors who use California products had stalled and was going nowhere.

Assembly Hearing

Now, the bill is scheduled to be heard Thursday in the Assembly, where it’s expected to pass and head to the Senate on Monday. Corbett said, “We’re hoping to have this on the governor’s desk by next week. This is something we should do so the abbot can rest in peace”. Ordained in 1964, Micka knew he wanted to build a monastery with the inheritance his mother left him. Micka and Fr Stephen Scott made a pact in 1970 to open the monastery, spending nearly a decade raising the additional money needed. The pair expanded the monastery over the years by buying properties next to their rural lot, surrounded by regional parks, wineries, and a few homes. Scott said Holy Cross is the only Orthodox monastery in the Bay Area. The monks provide weekly religious services, along with baptisms, weddings, and memorials for Orthodox Christians.

In April, Micka was diagnosed with advanced cancer at the junction of the oesophagus and stomach. Scott said Micka continued to deliver services up until recent months, when his condition worsened. Scott, who’s now Micka’s caregiver, said, “He’s restricted to his bed. He gets a lot of visitors. He’s very much loved”. Scott said he envisions the abbot’s final resting place to be somewhere near their chapel. After working with the Religious Liberty Clinic at Stanford University, Scott said they decided to pursue a narrowly crafted state law that allows Micka to be buried at the monastery.

Not Unprecedented

The state Legislature passed a similar exemption in 2005 that allowed Metropolitan Anthony Gerigiannakis, a spiritual leader of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco, to be buried on the grounds of St Nicholas Monastery, which he founded in Fresno County. Gerigiannakis died a month before then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill. Scott said that he hopes to be able to tell Micka that his final request has been granted, saying, “We’re trying to get this done, while Fr Theodor is still alive, so he has the peace of knowing where he’ll be”.

On Tuesday morning, his fellow priests awakened Abbot Archimandrite Theodor Micka with some good news. Governor Jerry Brown had signed legislation allowing the ailing 76-year-old abbot, who has terminal cancer, to be buried on the grounds of his Alameda County monastery. Micka said in a phone interview, “I’m in really high spirits now”. Despite continuing chemotherapy, he said, “I have strength that’s almost superhuman this morning”.

Micka spent decades developing an Orthodox monastery in Castro Valley, buying the first plot of land in 1979. In addition to daily prayer and study, Micka and other monks planted trees, tended gardens, and stacked stones for walls. Micka said, “I want to be part of the earth again. That’s why it’s important to be buried here at the monastery. It’s a place that I’ve laboured in, both spiritually as well as physically”.

Because the law requires the deceased to be buried in cemeteries, Micka needed an exemption to be laid to rest at the monastery. A legal clinic at the Stanford Law School and State Senator Ellen Corbett (D-San Leandro), whose district includes the monastery, pushed for legislation granting that exemption. It wasn’t lost on Fr Stephen Scott, who helped create the monastery with Micka, that the governor who signed the legislation considered becoming a priest himself before entering politics. Brown spent four years studying at a Jesuit seminary before attending UC Berkeley and Yale Law School. Scott said, “He probably understands what a sacrifice the abbot must have made in his life”.

Abbot Theodor Micka, whose dying wish to be buried at his Castro Valley monastery was granted by California lawmakers, died Tuesday in the arms of a long-time friend. Fr Stephen Scott said in a message to friends of the monastery, “I was with him feeding him breakfast just five minutes after the hospice nurse left. Suddenly, his eyes rolled back and he sighed. Then, he breathed no more. It was a peaceful, painless, and blessed passing”.

Abbot Micka and Scott opened the Holy Cross Monastery in 1979, the fulfilment of what Abbot Micka called a lifelong dream. Monks provide weekly religious services for Orthodox Christians, along with baptisms, weddings, and memorials. Abbot Micka, 75, was diagnosed last year with advanced cancer at the junction of the oesophagus and stomach. When his condition worsened, the monastery sought the help of the Religious Liberty Clinic at Stanford to help Abbot Micka and Scott pursue an exemption to state law so the abbot could be buried on the 9-acre monastery property. State law requires burial at a cemetery, unless a person is cremated. Failure to do so is a misdemeanour. Because the monastery isn’t a cemetery, the abbot needed an exemption. State Senator Ellen Corbett (D-San Leandro), whose district includes the monastery, said it was important to get a bill through the Legislature and onto Governor Jerry Brown’s desk as soon as possible. When Brown signed the bill in March, Abbot Micka said he was “filled with enthusiasm”. Abbot Micka’s funeral will be Saturday at the monastery.

01 Go to Jail

I won’t disguise my contempt for Gindin, Storheim’s shyster. His tactic was to label the accusers as mentally incompetent… and he almost got away with it. This is why many victims are hesitant to come forward. They’re savaged by defence counsel and by goodthinkers in the church body involved. I’m surprised that the victims have any religious faith left at all after what happened to them. I repeat I find Gindin’s tactics reprehensible and that he’s a low individual for having resorted to them. Kiss my ass, Jeff Gindin, that’s heartfelt and you can’t sue me for saying that.

This is EVIL…

On Wednesday, a former Orthodox bishop facing possible jail time for molesting an altar boy expressed empathy toward his victim. Seraphim Kenneth Storheim said in a brief address at the end of his sentencing hearing, “Having read the victim impact statement, I felt extreme sadness and pain in my heart that he was feeling those things”. Storheim also said he will pray for the victim “even more” from now on. The 68-year-old former cleric was dressed in simple black clothing that contrasted with his long white beard. He sat quietly throughout the hearing before making his statement.

The Crown requested a 12-month jail sentence for Storheim, convicted in January of one count of sexual assault on a boy who was living and working with him in Winnipeg in 1985. The boy was sent to live with Storheim by his family who lived in another community. Crown Attorney Breta Passler told the court, “This offender not only abused a young person, but abused a position of trust. The offender was a priest who’d been entrusted by the victim’s family.” Defence lawyer Jeff Gindin said the sexual assault was a one-time incident that warrants a conditional sentence with no jail time. “The evidence was that it was the briefest of touches”. Gindin also said Storheim has no criminal record, and already paid a heavy price through the media attention given to the trial. He said, “The publicity in this case has been extensive. His reputation is ruined, clearly … around the globe”.

The altar boy, now in his 30s, testified that he was made to fondle Storheim and Storheim touched him inappropriately as well. A court-ordered publication ban forbids the airing of his identity. Storheim pleaded not guilty and testified that he spoke to the boy about puberty but never touched him sexually. Justice Christopher Mainella rejected Storheim’s testimony, saying it wasn’t credible. Storheim faced charges of sexually assaulting another altar boy as well, but that witness’s testimony was often contradictory and Storheim was found not guilty on that count.

In his victim impact statement, the former altar boy said that he still feels anxiety, has undergone counselling, and has lost trust in religion. The judge will give his decision on 9 July. At the time of the offence, Storheim was a priest in the Orthodox Church in America. He later rose to archbishop… the church’s highest-ranking cleric in Canada. The Orthodox Church in America has 700 parishes, missions and other institutions across North America. It’s separate from other churches such as the Greek Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The cops arrested Storheim in 2010 after the former altar boys went to police with their complaints. The OCA placed him on leave and then retired him following his conviction.

The Orthodox Church of America learned that the judge in the Archbishop Seraphim Storheim case delayed announcing the sentence until 9 July 2014. Archbishop Seraphim was convicted of one count of sexual assault on 24 January 2014.

The work of the Synodal Commission continues pending Crown approval to interview involved parties. Since 3 April 2014 the Synodal Commission held three conference calls on the gathered material, consulted with legal counsel, read through the 700 pages of trial transcripts, read through the lengthy decision of the judge and constructed a timeline based on the currently available documents. The canonical process by the Holy Synod continues, which will lead to a spiritual court by the Holy Synod at the appropriate time.

The Centre faced a similar case in Vladimir Oblast… it didn’t take months. The local bishop acted immediately after the affair hit the Moscow tabs. I heard that HH put a rocket up his dzopa and threatened to light the fuse. Needless to say, they banned the priest involved from being in contact with kids, the convent involved had to stop all activities involving children being on premises 24/7, and the brouhaha over the mess stopped. It didn’t take months… one of these things is NOT like the other!

Oh, one last thing… oca.org is being its slovenly self… it spelled “Storheim” “Storeheim”. Little Mizz Ginny crashes again…

18 June 2014. More Cabinet Input on Fatso

00 a whisper in the loggia. 08.12

______________________________

I’m getting more Cabinet comments on Fatso. One whisper in the loggia went like this:

What I know about JP is this… a family member spoke to a parishioner at St Nick’s Sobor in DC and they said that the OCA released JP to the ROCOR, and he’s serving at St Johns Sobor in the District, BUT he’s still living in the house to next to St Nick’s. Someone on the Metropolitan Council is paying the tab.

I also received this:

JP’s still telling people that he’s released to the ROCOR… he just can’t help himself. He’s also serving and lecturing at St John the Baptist (ROCOR). The Monomoron crowd is very quiet about the picture showing him serving with Peterson and Brittain.

Both of these reports contain truth. No, I don’t think that JP has a release… but the people in DC think that he has. After all, JP is a VERY convincing liar… he did manage to hang on to power in the OCA longer than most of us dreamed possible. Of course, part of it is his demented little claque, who remain as loyal as ever to their wayward shepherd. He hasn’t moved (I’ve got that from three disparate sources) and he’s still drawing a OCA stipend. A OCA priest confirmed for me that the OCA Holy Synod hasn’t acted… JP demands that he continue to receive his OCA stipend in perpetuity after he switches and the OCA Holy Synod won’t buy that (one source said that JP threatened legal action to keep his stipend even after his transfer).

At the Centre, when the Holy Synod acts, the Journals (Decisions) go up that very day on patriarchia.ru… that’s so situations like this one don’t occur. It’s time to shit or get off the pot. If Paffso wants to go… let him go. However, there are two caveats. Firstly, he must forego his OCA stipend as he’d no longer be a hierarch of the OCA (besides which, he’s badmouthed the OCA Holy Synod… they shouldn’t subsidise a layabout malcontent). Secondly, and more importantly, this has to have the Centre’s blessing… AND IT DOESN’T. HH (or someone close to him) is putting up a roadblock to this… why, I don’t know (neither does anyone else). I’d hazard a guess and say that it’s Mark Golovkov, HH’s “shadow foreign minister”, and the man in charge of MP foreign establishments (which WOULD include the ROCOR). However, I don’t know that for certain… no one does, frankly. Yet, it’s obvious that this shindig won’t happen without Peredelkino’s OK, and that hasn’t come. Sit tight…

LNR Declares State of Emergency… DNR Seeks EvrAS ES Membership… Junta Forces Kill Russian Journalists

00 Lugansk 01. 18.06.14

______________________________

The Lugansk People’s Republic (LNR) government declared a state of emergency as junta forces began shelling the city, turning on civil defence alarms. At the moment, junta forces are shelling the village of Metallist. No information about casualties is available.

******

Late on Monday, a opolchenie source told ITAR-TASS about the latest shelling in Kramatorsk, “Ten civilians are dead, and more than ten more injured, the enemy shelling seriously damaged the driver training centre, and concussion smashed windows in nearby houses. The shelling damaged a transformer substation, and a tuberculosis dispensary and a food warehouse came under fire as well”.

******

At a news conference at ITAR-TASS on Tuesday, Denis Pushilin, Chairman of the Presidium of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) Supreme Soviet, said, “The DNR has adopted a course towards liberating the people from the Kiev junta’s armed gangs”. He outlined practical moves to normalise the situation, which local authorities would implement after the end of hostilities. He said that the republic would form a close alliance with the LNR and coöperate with international bodies in the post-Soviet space. Pushilin said, “Many DNR and LNR ministries would operate jointly, as we’ve signed a union treaty and have similar action programmes. We’re looking to Russia, the TS EvrAsES and the  Eurasian Economic Community. We’ll handle problems when the genocide is over”.

He identified the main tasks as industrial resurgence and restoration of abandoned oligarch-stolen production facilities. Pushilin emphasised that the DNR would raise wages and welfare payments by nationalising companies that refused to recognise the DNR. In 2013, the then-Donetsk Oblast transferred about 14 billion gryvnias (41.2 billion Roubles. 1.19 billion USD. 1.3 billion CAD. 1.28 billion AUD. 878 million Euros. 703 million UK Pounds) to Kiev, of which just half returned. Pushilin said, “Huge (money) flows went into pockets of unscrupulous people. At present, talks with Kiev are out of the question. We’ve learnt from sad experience that when they negotiate a ceasefire, they violate it and continue to fire on us”.

The DNR intends to respond with reinforced checkpoints, new armed units, and warning strikes by miners. Pushilin said that Kiev’s statement about humanitarian corridors was “a downright lie”, because buses with white flags carrying children, women, and old people came under fire shortly afterwards. He called for bringing in a peacekeeping contingent to the zone of the junta’s repression operation to create humanitarian corridors. When asked about casualty figures, Pushilin noted that no precise information was available because people died and went missing every day. He said the junta concealed huge losses amongst their forces.

Editor:

As the main force available to the junta is the so-called “National Guard” (sic), an untrained and unmilitary rabble of Euromaidan Galician Uniate terrorists, it stands to reason that losses were similar to those of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Iran-Iraq War. That is, casualties are far higher than those claimed, as the fighting has been in built-up areas, not in open countryside. Look at the good side of it… the Galician Uniate fanatics are dying in Novorossiya. That may well hasten the fall of the junta. Also note that the oligarchs milked Novorossiya, as did the Galician Uniate hillbillies (their dirt-poor backwoods region in the sticks didn’t have the resources to fund some of their more noisome projects). Now, the cash cow is GONE. It’s why they’re trying so hard to seize it… without Novorossiya, the “Ukraine” is an economic basket case worse than Greece is.

Igor Kornelyuk, a VGTRK correspondent, injured during the shelling of Mirny, near Lugansk, died in hospital. Meanwhile, his colleague is missing. VGTRK confirmed the death of Kornelyuk as a result of an injury sustained near Lugansk. The LNR media centre told Interfax that Anton Voloshin, a VGTRK sound operator, went missing following a mortar attack in Metallist near Lugansk. “We’ll consider [Voloshin] missing until we find his body or until he’s found alive. It’s impossible to get [to Metallist], there’s heavy mortar fire going on there. The VGTRK operator managed to leave because he was filming everything from some distance”. On Tuesday, a VGTRK spokesperson told Interfax, “We’ve just confirmed Igor’s death in hospital in Lugansk. The fate of the TV crew’s sound operator, Anton Voloshin, is still unknown; now, we consider him to be missing”. Earlier, the deputy chief doctor at the Lugansk regional hospital, Sergei Babenko, told Interfax about Kornelyuk’s death. Vladimir Inogorodskikh, the head of the LNR media centre, said earlier on Tuesday, “A mortar attack in Mirny wounded a VGTRK correspondent”.

00 slavyansk 01. 18.06.14

THIS is what Nuland, Zbig, and McCain giggle at… BASTARDS!

______________________________

On Tuesday, Aleksandr Borodai, the Chairman of the DNR Government, said at a meeting of the Russian Federation Council’s provisional commission for Ukraine situation monitoring, “The situation is close to a humanitarian catastrophe. We’re facing a critical situation, close to a humanitarian catastrophe. There are serious problems with water supplies. As a matter of fact, many towns and villages are already in a state of humanitarian catastrophe. That’s true of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. The junta is trying to crush the will of the people in the Donbass. They want to crush our will for self-determination, our aspiration to unite with Russia. We’re grateful to Russia for the humanitarian aid that you’ve sent to us. We’re grateful for any assistance and support. We’re looking forward to it. We hope that this aid won’t stop. For, with it, we’ll be able to defeat the invader.

For his part, Oleg Tsaryov, a co-chairman of the People’s Front social and political movement, who also attended the meeting, said, “This war will not stop in Donetsk and Lugansk. The ‘[National] Guard’ is able to mobilise up to 500,000 people; today, they’re randomly seizing people, even in the central Ukraine, threatening to arrest them and put them in prison. I’m aware of several dozen situations where the ‘National Guard’ (sic) killed soldiers who refused to fight against their own people. This conveyor of death will keep rolling, and the situation is fraught with widespread war, which will play into Kiev’s hands amidst the deteriorating economic situation. We need to be prepared for that”.

Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin stated after Valerie Amos, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Coordination, held a closed-door briefing on Ukraine at the UN Security Council, “Moscow found ways to deliver humanitarian aid to people in [Novorossiya] without going through Kiev. We tried to work it out with the Ukrainian authorities; we sent them an official note in late May. They replied negatively in an official note. We found means to deliver humanitarian assistance to people in need. People are coming across the border, taking humanitarian assistance and bringing it home”. The MID posted his speech on its official Facebook page. As to whether the UN or third countries could use the same technique to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria, Churkin said, “They could, but the people who could conceivably have done it keep asking questions”.

Editor:

Tsaryov’s figure isn’t fantasy… it’s the number of fanatic military-age Uniate and schismatic men in the country. However, even though such a large group would be violent, brutal, and thuggish, it’d lack training and cohesion, and it’d be militarily useless against even the opolchenie. However, it COULD re-enact a Rwandan Massacre in the Ukraine. You don’t need training to brutalise the helpless, sadly enough. I’d ask all my readers to notice the silence of the Uniate hierarchy on the enormities committed by Uniate terrorists. I’d mention that the so-called “Ukrainian Orthodox” in the diaspora are similarly silent. They’re not fit company for decent folk, I’d say…

Interfax reported that Sergei Donich, Republic of the Crimea Deputy Chairman of the Government, said, “People arriving in the Crimea from the war zone are staying in 33 shelters, health resorts, children’s and tourist camps. Over 2,000 children and almost 1,700 accompanying adults are staying at Crimean health resorts, with assistance from the Republic of Crimea Council of Ministers. The total number of people who fled to the Crimea because of the Ukrainian situation is much larger. We held a conference yesterday. Someone said that over 5,000 people needed temporary asylum. Therefore, we decided to grant free accommodation to residents of the conflict-ridden regions”.

EU Ambassador to the Ukraine Jan Tombinski said that the Kiev junta wasted tens of millions of euros allocated earlier by the EU for bolstering border security. On Tuesday, Tombinski said at a forum titled From Revolution to a New Country in Kiev, “With regard to the border with Russia, we, the EU, provided tens of millions of euros to help Ukrainian border guards. What did we get? Ukrainian border guards are asking for money to buy things. Where did the EU money go? The Ukraine needs to sort out its corruption and introduce transparency, given the wasteful use of these funds”.

Editor:

The money went to Poroshenko, Yatsenyuk, Turchinov, Darlin’ Yuliya, and their underlings… they’re WORSE than V F Yanukovich ever was. The Maidan gave birth to an amoral greedster junta that makes Yanukovich look utterly impeccable and spotless! I dare any of you to attack V F Yanukovich now. In an imperfect world, he was the best choice. He was the least dishonest of the available lot… and that’s good enough for me (he was less dishonest than Rick Perry or Sarah Palin are, for instance). Eleven emergency vehicles and 46 rescuers are working at the scene, but populated areas weren’t cut off from gas supply”. Meanwhile, a law enforcement source told Interfax that the gas pipeline explosion (in Pestichevskoy (Lokhvitsa Raion), Poltava Oblast) might have been sabotage, saying, “The area covered by the fire is nearly one kilometre. The preliminary theory is sabotage”. In a statement, Ukrtransgas said, “The explosion won’t affect gas transportation to Europe”.

LNR and DNR leaders aren’t ready in current conditions to have any contacts with Irina Gerashchenko, the so-called “Presidential Envoy for Conflict Settlement”. Denis Pushilin, Chairman of the Presidium of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) Supreme Soviet, told ITAR-TASS over the phone that contacts were possible only with mediation, saying, “I doubt very much that she’d be able to do anything, given that Poroshenko doesn’t control the situation”. Meanwhile, Valery Bolotov, the head of the LNR, said that he wasn’t going to have any contacts with Gerashchenko, “I’d speak to her only when the Ukraine withdraws its troops from our territory. The Ukrainian side is only building up its forces; in fact, they don’t want any talks at all”. Earlier on Tuesday, Poroshenko appointed Irina Gerashchenko, a UDAR politician, his envoy for peace settlement of the conflict in the DNR and LNR.
