On Sunday, Minoborony spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said, “[International] inspectors found no violations or undeclared military activity on the part of Russia in the border area near the Ukraine”. Over the last four months, 18 international inspection teams visited Russian border areas near the Ukraine under the Vienna Document 2011 and the Treaty on Open Skies. The teams included members from the USA, NATO, and even the Ukraine. These groups carried out aerial surveys of the indicated areas and visited military units.

Impartial OSCE observers confirmed that there are NO Russian units on the border… the USA claims that it has photos of Russian artillery firing on the Ukraine. Vasili Malayev, a spokesman of the FSB Border Service in Rostov Oblast, told us, “Two Ukrainian border guards, unwilling to fight, crossed over to Russia, and asked for asylum. The two, a major and a senior warrant officer, are going to ask for Russian citizenship. More than 40 Ukrainian soldiers left their units and asked independence supporters to help them get to Russia so that they wouldn’t have to fight against their own people”.

On Sunday, Lieutenant General V N Bondarev, VVS Commander-in-Chief, said, “I think that the Ukraine’s rejection of military and technical coöperation is harmful for itself, firstly, as it’d lead to a collapse of their economy. After some time, I presume that all these aspirations to become partners with the West would end badly. Nobody needs [the Ukraine], except Russia. In any case, it’d mainly hurt the Ukrainian people”. When asked about the fate of the Russian-Ukrainian An-70 transport aircraft project, Bondarev said, “We’d get on without the An-70 easily. We don’t see anything tragic in the fact that this plane isn’t ready. If they want to stop development, then, so be it”.
The An-70 is one of the oldest projects in the post-Soviet aviation industry. Its development began in 1980, when a question arose about the upcoming replacement of the 1950s-vintage An-12. The new aircraft made its first flight in 1994, after the Soviet collapse. Lack of funds for the project and technical difficulties constantly delayed the start of production. In 2009, Russia and the Ukraine signed an intergovernmental agreement resuming work on the project at the MAKS International Aviation and Space Show. In July 2014, Antonov announced the end of An-70 development.

On Sunday, a local opolchenie source told us that a large group of so-called “National Guard” (sic) Uniate terrorists approached Shakhtarsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR), in an attempt to surround Donetsk, resulting in street fighting. Witnesses heard shelling on the outskirts. Civil defence sirens went off in Shakhtarsk, some mobile phone providers stopped operating, and the streets are empty. An hour before the fighting began, residents saw a large column of so-called “National Guard” (sic) Uniate terrorists heading towards the city. If the junta occupies the city, they’d be able to control the main highway to Lugansk and Russia. Junta forces would surround Donetsk, Gorlovka, and Makeyevka, now under DNR control. Shakhtarsk is only 10 kilometres (6 miles) away from the MH17 crash site. On Monday, the junta and DNR agreed on a ceasefire within a 40-kilometre (25 miles) zone around the MH17 crash site, to provide access to the area for the international investigators.
