I find the way that the OCA handled this is reprehensible and beneath the salt. Dickie deserved to get such news at a formal hearing… he deserved to have this posted on the official website so that the world would know what the SOBs (again… whether it’s “Synod of Bishops” or “Sons of Bitches” is up to you, dear reader) did. This is what decent and normal people do. Lyonyo and Jillions (this smells of them, no doubt about it) went too far this time. You see, other priests are going to ask, “Who’s next?” Jillions was none-too-bright to begin with, and Lyonyo has forgotten that there’s a whole world outside Syosset and its ingrown clique. No matter that Dickie Wood was arrogant and a self-promoter… there are procedures and due process, not only in the secular legal sense, but in Church law, too (as a real expert like Alexander Lebedeff would tell you).

Them whom the gods would destroy, first, they make them mad… if there was ever an apt occasion for that, it’s now. This is too much of a muchness. The people who did this are worthy of no respect whatsoever. Our Church institution has fallen and REFUSES to get up… isn’t that a sign that we have to do something about it? Just sayin’…

New Evidence, New Trial, Ex-Archbishop’s Lawyer Argues

The lawyer for a former archbishop found guilty of sexually assaulting an altar boy in the 1980s says Manitoba’s highest court should consider fresh evidence and overturn the verdict. A Manitoba court convicted Seraphim Storheim early this year of sexually assaulting a boy who had come to visit him in Winnipeg in 1985. Storheim’s lawyer, Jeff Gindin, presented three Appeal Court judges with photos and documents Friday that suggest the boy was in Winnipeg in 1986 and not 1985. Storheim’s handwriting on the pictures says a boy “not from here” is participating in a church ceremony in 1986. Gindin argued that the evidence casts doubt on the credibility of the victim and the Crown’s version of events. He told the judges, “I never suggested this evidence taken by itself was a smoking gun. It could’ve been used to cross-examine witnesses presented by the Crown in a different way”.

Justice Alan MacInnes questioned the veracity of the pictures, which don’t name the boy, saying, “This is an exceptional remedy you’re seeking. It’s that way for good reason. At some point in time, cases end”. MacInnes pointed up that Christopher Mainella, the trial judge who convicted Storheim and who now sits on the Appeal Court, didn’t believe Storheim’s testimony, noting, “The irony of this is the person who is accused wasn’t believed by the trial judge and now we’re being asked to believe his evidence. Your own client said it was 1985. On your argument, your client was wrong. Why should we be accepting the motion for fresh evidence?” While Storheim was convicted of sexually assaulting one boy, he was acquitted on the same charge involving the victim’s brother, who also visited on a separate occasion.

As usual, all the religious hobbyists crawled out of their hidey-holes to tell us all how nasty and SINFUL that we were for observing Halloween, and how “HOLY” they were for abstaining from Halloween. That’s a crock of shit a mile wide and bottomless, to boot. It’s a harmless secular holiday, that’s how it evolved. It’s no more satanic than American Christmas is (as dreary and commercialised as that’s become). There are times when I think that the religious nutters are trying to distort Christ to fit Him into their fundamentally un-Christian ideology, but they do try, and it’s our duty to oppose them.

Have some fun. God smiles… He did create fun after all… don’t let the longfaces steal both real religion and real fun from you. If you let them do that, well, Satan laughs, and calls for another Margarita…
