In Donetsk, in the Lenin Komsomol Park, a memorial sculpture honouring the memory of the DNR civilians killed by the Ukrainian aggressors is now in place. It portrays a bouquet of roses, 4-metres-high, standing in a blown-out artillery shell. This was on the initiative of Donetsk blacksmiths, who wanted to honour their compatriots who died in the war. They forged the four metal roses from a single piece of metal weighing 1.6 tonnes; its granite pedestal is 1.04-metres-high. The plaque has the inscription “[To the] Fallen Civilians of the Donetsk People’s Republic”. A formal dedication of the memorial will be held later.

On 10 May 2015, Chairman of the DNR Government A V Zakharchenko and chairman of the DNR Peoples Soviet A E Purgin approved the placing of a memorial on the future site of a Memorial to the Fallen Civilians of the Republic. Besides this, Donetsk master blacksmith Viktor Mikhalev is working on an arch in memory of those children killed in the war. This arch will be 2.5-metres in height.

______________________________

Today, the DNR Minoborony reported, “Over the past 24 hours, the enemy committed 39 ceasefire violations. The enemy fired 26 artillery shells, 99 tank shells, and 198 8.2-cm/12-cm mortar shells. Besides this, they fired 480 rounds from Grad MLRSs in Telmanovo Raion, killing one civilian and wounding three more. However, we’ve reduced the number and intensity of the attacks through resumption of the OSCE’s efforts. The enemy also fired at Donetsk (Kievsky and Kuibyshev Raions, Donetsk Airport), Yasinovataya, Staromikhailovka, Petrovskoe, Belaya Kamenka, Krasny Oktyabr, Novaya Laspa, Zhabichevo, Sakhanka, Vasilevka and Spartak. One of our soldiers died in action”.

Editor:

The number of Grad rounds released isn’t all that many, truly… it’s 12 fully loaded systems, which isn’t even a full battalion. They released their load in 20 seconds, saddled up, and skedaddled. As I noted previously, the Grad is the perfect weapon for untrained unmilitary rabble like the Galician Uniate nationalist fanatics. Even these Homer n’ Jethro backwoodsmen can use them. You just point it in the given direction and fire. It’s a perfect metaphor for the junta and its ragtag bag of militants (they’re no army and they’re no soldiers)… mindless, crude, unthinking, and witless. God do preserve the people of Novorossiya from such a nihilist scourge…

Donetsk Residents Want to Use VOV-era Wells to Restore Water Supply

______________________________

Today, the Public Relations Office of the DNR Peoples Soviet told us that residents of Yelenovka quarter in Leninsky Raion of Donetsk, cut off from the central water supply for a year, asked the government if they could use old military maps from the VOV era to find wells for drinking water, saying, “For about a year, people in Yelenovka have been cut off from the central water supply. For pumping water, they want to use old military pipelines, as well as to reopen abandoned wells. To do this, they appealed to DNR Peoples Soviet Deputies Oleg Glebov, Aleksandr Yarovikov, and Marina Zheinova. The deputies met with Yelenovka residents on 8 August”. Deputy Zheinova told us that the locals want to use old maps and plans to find abandoned wells. In addition, the locals want find all the old-timers left from that period who may know where those wells are. Zheinova said, “These people don’t need to get special permits to do this. On their own initiative, they want to create a group to deal with the matter. The government and utilities will help residents clean out and repair abandoned wells for drinking water supply”. Deputy Glebov said, “We can’t restore the central water supply to Yelenovka because of constant shelling from the Ukrainian side. Fact is, the water pipeline is on the Contact Line, so, it’s constantly under bombardment, and we can’t fix it. Repair crews can’t get to it. Therefore, there’s not only no running water in Yelenovka, there’s none in nearby places temporarily occupied by the Ukrainian aggressors”.

Water supply has become one of the most acute humanitarian problems In the Donbass. The Seversky Donets-Donbass watershed is the only source of drinking water for the DNR. This suffered serious damage from Ukrainian aggressor shelling in August 2014. Due to the difficult situation near the damaged pipeline and regular attacks by junta forces, utility crews can’t repair it, which complicates the already tense humanitarian situation in some parts of the DNR. Repeatedly, our side raised this question at meetings of the Contact Group and subgroups in Minsk, but the junta aggressors refused to reduce their intensity of the shelling.

______________________________

The DNR Central Bank of the Republic told us, “The first nine ATMs operated by the DNR Central Bank of the Republic (DNR TsRB) opened in Donetsk. The list of ATM addresses is on our website. TsRB ATMs will service debit cards issued by the TsRB, the Ministry of Finance, and DNR Head Administration. TsRB ATMs will NOT accept cards issued by other financial institutions. Don’t try to use other bank’s cards to withdraw money from our ATMs. Our terminals won’t accept them… it’ll ‘eat’ the card, giving the cardholder a multitude of problems. Our ATMs have the programs to give out cash in roubles and in dollars, but it only issues money in Russian Federation currency. Per day, one can carry out three transactions at any given ATM, and you can receive no more than twenty banknotes of any given denomination in total. That is, if an ATM has 1,000-rouble (98.50 Renminbi. 1,004 INR. 15.40 USD. 20.20 CAD. 20.90 AUD. 13.80 Euros. 9.90 UK Pounds) banknotes, the maximum withdrawal per day is 20,000 roubles (1,970 Renminbi. 20,080 INR. 308 USD. 404 CAD. 418 AUD. 276 Euros. 198 UK Pounds). In the near future, the TsRB plans to expand the circulation of cards for the development of cashless payments”. The TsRB announced the launch of a test of a plastic card system in mid-July; it started programming ATMs, payment terminals, and other equipment. It planned a full-scale launch of the system in August.
