Today, the DNR Minoborony reported, “Over the past 24 hours, the enemy committed 39 ceasefire violations. The enemy fired 26 artillery shells, 99 tank shells, and 198 8.2-cm/12-cm mortar shells. Besides this, they fired 480 rounds from Grad MLRSs in Telmanovo Raion, killing one civilian and wounding three more. However, we’ve reduced the number and intensity of the attacks through resumption of the OSCE’s efforts. The enemy also fired at Donetsk (Kievsky and Kuibyshev Raions, Donetsk Airport), Yasinovataya, Staromikhailovka, Petrovskoe, Belaya Kamenka, Krasny Oktyabr, Novaya Laspa, Zhabichevo, Sakhanka, Vasilevka and Spartak. One of our soldiers died in action”.

The number of Grad rounds released isn’t all that many, truly… it’s 12 fully loaded systems, which isn’t even a full battalion. They released their load in 20 seconds, saddled up, and skedaddled. As I noted previously, the Grad is the perfect weapon for untrained unmilitary rabble like the Galician Uniate nationalist fanatics. Even these Homer n’ Jethro backwoodsmen can use them. You just point it in the given direction and fire. It’s a perfect metaphor for the junta and its ragtag bag of militants (they’re no army and they’re no soldiers)… mindless, crude, unthinking, and witless. God do preserve the people of Novorossiya from such a nihilist scourge…

In Donetsk, in the Lenin Komsomol Park, a memorial sculpture honouring the memory of the DNR civilians killed by the Ukrainian aggressors is now in place. It portrays a bouquet of roses, 4-metres-high, standing in a blown-out artillery shell. This was on the initiative of Donetsk blacksmiths, who wanted to honour their compatriots who died in the war. They forged the four metal roses from a single piece of metal weighing 1.6 tonnes; its granite pedestal is 1.04-metres-high. The plaque has the inscription “[To the] Fallen Civilians of the Donetsk People’s Republic”. A formal dedication of the memorial will be held later.
On 10 May 2015, Chairman of the DNR Government A V Zakharchenko and chairman of the DNR Peoples Soviet A E Purgin approved the placing of a memorial on the future site of a Memorial to the Fallen Civilians of the Republic. Besides this, Donetsk master blacksmith Viktor Mikhalev is working on an arch in memory of those children killed in the war. This arch will be 2.5-metres in height.
