Vladimir Tkachuk, chairman of the DNR Army Sports Club (DNR SKA), told us:
The DNR SKA would provide disabled veterans opportunities to compete in sports. Currently, we have regulations to cover this. In addition, we have a list of sports that disabled vets could compete in. We’d coordinate the level of physical activity for disabled veterans with the Ministry of Sports and physicians. We need to determine what kind of stress that disabled athletes can put on their bodies. This is especially important in sports like Sambo and other types of combat martial arts. The level of disability won’t prevent anyone wishing to play sports. During the search for a site of the future training centre at the Yubileiny Sports Complex, I noticed a guy with no hands. I told the coaches with me that most anyone would envy his level of physical fitness. In future, the DNR SKA plans to train and coach Paralympic athletes.
