Brave Kitten Escapes Death, Gets 3D Wheelchair

The Tiny Kittens Society saved this courageous kitten from death, after losing both hind legs when he was born. However, the little one refused to give up, and survived… the Society provided him with a special wheelchair. The kitten named Cassidy was in a feral cat colony in British Columbia, Canada. Probably his mother had chewed off both his hind legs. He survived for nine weeks, as though waiting for help to arrive. The Tiny Kittens Society, members of which saved the kitten, wrote on Facebook, “It’s a medical miracle that he survived even a day with such severe injuries, let alone nine weeks. His little body had just about given out from starvation and infection by the time we rescued him, but he never gave up!” They decided to help the brave kitten, and asked for assistance from engineers at Handicapped Pets Canada, an organisation that makes special devices for disabled animals. The company created a 3D-printed wheelchair for the little amputee, thus allowing Cassidy to take his first steps on his own. The Tiny Kittens Society posted the video on Facebook, with almost 14,000 shares and over 23,000 likes in about a week. The group has about 1.5 million subscribers, so the video triggered a storm of comments, with hundreds commenting the touching video made them cry with joy.

Zakharchenko Reopened Rebuilt Gorlovka High School Damaged in August 2015 Terror Bombardment

Today, DNR Chairman of the Government A V Zakharchenko reopened the repaired High School № 14 Lider, rebuilt after the August bombardment of Gorlovka. Zakharchenko told the audience:

Today, we mark a joyful event. I want to congratulate you on the fact that we restored this beautiful high school. I can say that our children won’t learn in basements… the Ukrainians are deeply mistaken; we will study in normal schools, high schools, and universities. Even if they’re in ruins, we’ll make them even better than they were before.

Also present were Roman Khramenkov, the Head of the Gorlovka GMA*, school officials and teachers, students, and parents, totalling about 400 people. Khramenkov said:

On 25 August, I was here and saw this school after the attacks by the Ukrainian aggressors… it was completely in ruins. We pledged to restore it before 1 October, to admit students. We fulfilled these obligations. As you can see, today, the students of this school, albeit belatedly, sit at their desks and celebrate the Day of Knowledge.

Lyudmila Isakieva, the Director of the School, said:

I thank those who helped restore the school. Especially, I’d like to thank the Gorlovka enterprise Stirol. Its workers are helping to repair housing in our city and to rehabilitate four other schools.

To mark the opening, Chairman Zakharchenko solemnly cut a ribbon; after that, he helped a student plant a young birch tree in the schoolyard. In conclusion, Zakharchenko made a tour of the repaired facilities.

Gorlovka High School № 14 Lider suffered damaged during terror bombardment by junta forces on the morning of 25 August. There were eight direct hits on the building, damaging the roof, floors, gym, and glazing. On the same day in Gorlovka, the junta aggressors fired at School № 16, Vocational School № 25, and Kindergarten № 14. According to the DNR Minoborony, the junta forces fired 12.2-cm and 15.2-cm artillery from positions near Maiorsk.

“Circus of the Future” Festival Opened in Lugansk

Circus of the Future-2015, the thirteenth International Festival of Youth Circus Troupes, Schools, and Performers, opened today in Lugansk with a parade through the main streets of the city. The opening ceremony and the first day of the contest were at the Lugansk Academic Military Music and Drama Theatre, since junta shelling badly damaged the building of the Lugansk Circus in summer 2014. Aleksei Karyakin, Chairman of the LNR Peoples Soviet, said to welcome the festival and its guests:

During the most difficult times, the circus is able to distance from us those things that, unfortunately, add to our grief, and give positive moments that prolong our lives. We can feel it… from our very first visit to the circus as a child until the very last moments of our life. I think that the number “13” will be lucky for the festival. 23 years ago, [Lugansk] was the 13th oblast of the Ukraine, but everything turned out all right. So, don’t pay attention to such a piffle. I wish good luck to the contestants and impartiality from the judges.

LNR Minister of Culture Oksana Kokotkina spoke at the opening and greeted all present:

The circus is a special thing… a special way of life that attracts and fascinates. I wish the festival long life and hope that the next festival will be in the restored building of our wounded circus.

Archpriest Alexander Ponomaryov of the Lugansk parish of the Icon of the Mother of God “of Tenderness” blessed the affair:

Let us rejoice today and be glad, because we have peace on earth now. The circus is a world of peace*. May the Lord bless our land and these great circus acts.

• This is a play on words in Russian, as мир can mean either “peace” or “world”… the fullness of the wordplay is only evident in the original Russian

The festival proper began with a presentation by the youngest participants and by the founder of the Circus of the Future festival, Dmitri Kasyanov, Director of the Lugansk State Circus. After that, the competition began. Circus of the Future-2015, on 2-3 October, will bring together 80 contestants from different countries. The festival will conduct master classes and hold a roundtable “The role of the contemporary circus arts in promoting peace and friendship among peoples”, with all levels of festival participants taking part.

The first festival was in 2002, at the Lugansk State Circus and had oblast status. In 2005, the event became all-Ukrainian, and in 2007 the festival gained international status. Since 2005, it was the only Ukrainian Youth Circus Festival held with the support of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture, and since 2007, part of the care for the logistical support of the festival was in the hands of the Department of Culture, Nationalities, and Religions of the then-Lugansk Oblast State Administration. The festival wants to strengthen international creative communications between youth circus troupes and performers, to promote mutual understanding and mutual enrichment in arts and culture, increase the creative reputation of the Lugansk Circus in the international arena, and to promote circus arts through a search for creative and talented youth.
