An LNR student team won third place at the First Open Youth Military-Patriotic Civil Defence Sports Games (sponsored by the Российским союзом спасателей (Rossiskim soyuzom spasatelei: Russian Union of Rescuers (RSS)), which took place 2-5 October in Aksai Raion of Rostov Oblast. The main purpose of the event was to teach young people how to protect others and act in emergencies, as well as testing rescue skills and how well one used personal protective equipment. The events had several parts. Immediately after the opening ceremony, there was a combined fire relay. For two days, the teams demonstrated their skills in NBC* contamination situations. Contestants performed simulated rescue operations, including evacuation of “victims” and providing first aid. Finally, the teams took part in a military-sports relay race and a quiz on civil defence. Teams from Rostov Oblast, the DNR, and the LNR took part in the games. In particular, the LNR sent two teams, Slavyane (Slavs) and Zarya (Dawn), consisting of the 20 best youth competitors in an LNR MChS contest. An official spokesman noted:
Slavyane won third place amongst 11 teams participating in the competition. This bronze may be worth more than a gold. Of course, to achieve such a result, it had the help and support of the other teams. Our motto was, “We aren’t Yanks, we’re Slavs, the Russians are our brothers”. Our guys truly felt a brotherly attitude from the opposing teams.
Valery Sinkov, Chief of the MChS Rossii in Rostov Oblast, gave our team its well-deserved awards, including a cup, “For Fraternity, in the Name of Support”, which it shared with a team from the DNR. The good showing of the LNR side wasn’t a fluke… it had serious training from sports coaches from the LNR power agencies and some had competed in Moscow.
