Nikolai Mikhailovich Belyayev, the last survivor of the storming of the Reichstag, died on 8 December in St Petersburg. He was a company commander in the 756 Regiment, he was 93-years-old at the time of his death. A friend said, “He just didn’t wake up in the morning. He just quietly left… in silence”.
